Hope Notes 06/19/2024

June 19, 2024
Hello Hoper,
“Beware of paying attention or going back to what you once were, when God wants you to be something that you have never been.”  This is a quote that I love from Oswald Chambers. It coincides with Isaiah 43:18 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” I am more than happy to forget the person I was before I knew Christ. The mistakes I made. The insecurities and worries I had. Living a life that was more focused on trying to please others and influence what they thought of me. Surrendering my life to Jesus changed all of that. The most exciting part of the quote from Mr. Chambers is the last part – God wants you to be something you have never been! Doesn’t that sound amazing? It’s not something Mr. Chambers just made up; Scripture assures us it is true. “Whoever is a believer in Christ is a new creation. The old way of living has disappeared. A new way of living has come into existence.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 GWT) I don’t feel like I have anything in the past that draws me back. No siren song luring me back to my old ways. If anything, I sometimes have a flash of nostalgia for something that didn’t even exist. What might’ve been possible, the person I might’ve been, the story I could have had if I’d known Jesus much earlier in my life. I don’t truly regret all of my past; it has made me who I am and, most importantly, led me to Jesus. I am grateful to be known by our merciful God who says, “Behold I make all things new.” (Revelation 21:5)
Forever free…..Lois

Loving the Light
(John 3:18-21, John 14:1-11, James 1:12-18, Galatians 6:7-9
Those who believe that Jesus is God, and that He died on the cross for us because He is the way, the truth, and the life, must not accept this reality merely in theory but also in practice. We cannot afford to stand in the shadows with unbelievers afraid of our call to step out into the light.  We cannot give God the glory, honor and praise that He deserves from a posture of self-indulgent or self-centered defensiveness.  Instead, we must fully embrace the light, wholly trust in God’s sovereignty, and reject our flesh when it tries to convince us that leaving the shadows will be anything but the good and true path that God has placed before us. Meditate with me on the ultimate reality of God’s goodness and see how it can help us choose to live according to His will and for His sake from one moment to the next!

SUMMER BIBLE STUDY: Starts tonight at 7:00
Join us as we begin our 5 week summer bible study series in the book of Philippians! While we can’t exactly put ourselves in the shoes of the Philippians we can sympathize with a church that is being overrun by a worldly culture and ridiculed for its belief. Though they may not manifest in the same way, we can feel many of the same pressures that the Philippine Christians felt. In this way Paul’s message of encouragement, his directions to evangelize by living out loud for Jesus, and warnings against false teachings ring loudly in our ears. Through this Bible study our goal will be to read Philippians plainly, interpret its original meaning to its original audience, and apply the principles present within the text to our daily walk. Please note: there will not be Hope Youth or HopeKids! programs for this series.

FALL BIBLE STUDY: Teachers Wanted!
Do you have a heart for teaching and want to lead a Wednesday Night class? We are looking for interested teachers who would like to head up a study in the fall! Send your class topic, outline, and description to Pastor Mark at markott@hopechristianfellowship.org by July 21st.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Hope is supporting Kids Alley by collecting items for the upcoming school year for kids in need! Help fill a child’s backpack or locker by viewing the list of items needed here, and donating in the bins located at the front and rear entrances at church any Sunday between now and July 14th. For questions please contact Jodi Jacoby.

VBS: Crew Leaders Needed!
This year’s VBS theme is Scuba, where kids will discover how they can deep dive into friendship with God. From July 22-26, we’ll have an unforgettable week celebrating God and making an eternal impact in the lives of our kids. We’re looking for an energetic group of crew leaders who will connect with the kids everyday one-on-one! If you want to be a part of this amazing week, sign-up here.

If you want to help prepare the many decorations that will transform our church for Scuba VBS, then come on out to our VBS Prep Nights! We will be gathering each Tuesday from 7:00-9:00p in the GoZone. Come for as many of those dates as you can, and stay for as long as you’re able! We’re excited to work with you to bring this year’s theme to life!

If you are new to Hope within the past year, our staff and leadership team would love to get to know you and your family! Please join us on Sunday, June 30th in-between services in our kitchen (front left door in the auditorium) for pastries & coffee. This is open house style, so pop in as you’re able! We can’t wait to meet you!

WONDERZONE SERVING OPPORTUNITY: Building a foundation of faith!
As we launch into summer, we have continued to see exponential growth in our WonderZone (0-5) classrooms — so much so that we have recently opened a brand new classroom to allow for continued growth and best serve all of our little ones! Among all of our Nursery through Pre-K classes, we have the incredible blessing and opportunity to point our littlest Hopers to faith, teaching them the vital truths that God made them, God loves them, and Jesus wants to be their friend forever! We would love for YOU to join us on this mission and be a part of building a foundation of faith for the next generation.  If you want to make an eternal impact in the lives of our little ones, there is certainly a place for you in our WonderZone! Join one of our teams by filling out this form, and our Preschool Director, Kara May, will be in touch with you.

Our Worship Ministry is looking to fill one more spot in their Broadcast Team. Our Sunday morning live-streams are an essential part of sharing Hope and we’d love your help in making this critical role happen! If you are computer savvy and can serve on a Sunday morning, we’d love for you to consider joining the team. You will be fully trained and equipped to run our live-stream and assist in the uploading of our sermon to multiple online platforms. Help share the good news of Hope! Contact Ken Shinn to join.

LADIES SUMMER SUN & FUN: June 29th from 11:00-2:00
Hey Ladies! Summer is around the corner and what’s more fun than a pool-side picnic lunch with friends? We hope you’ll join us for the first of two “Summer Sun & Fun” events. This one will be at the Baumiester’s home (750 Fairview Ave. Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097). There are two sign up sheets in the front lobby – one is to let us know that you can attend and the other is if you’d like to bring a side dish or dessert to share. We’ll supply the sandwiches and cold drinks but we’ll need a headcount for set up and supplies. Remember your bathing suit and towel if you’d like to swim – and by the way, the pool is amazing! This is an event for all our ladies post high school and up and feel free to invite a friend. Contact Dana at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org for more info. Be on the lookout for our 2nd event scheduled for August 16th!

Did you know we have a Food Pantry Ministry here at Hope? If you are in need of groceries, head to our kitchen (door in the front left of the auditorium) after either service. One of our volunteers will be waiting for you and can help you pack up a bag of food! If you’d like to help with this ministry, contact Kathy Cunningham.

You can give in-person by check or cash using the offering slot at the back of the auditorium (in the sound booth.) We also have the option to give online using a debit or credit card. You can even set-up a recurring payment plan. We use Simple Church, which is a safe and secure software specifically designed for churches. To give to Hope online, click here, or scan the QR code under the offering slot!

The Young Adults ministry at Hope is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. We’ll be diving into “10 Questions Jesus Asked” on the 3rd Tuesday of July and August. Plus we are going to have a fun event each month! Save the dates (see below) and stay tuned for the details!

  • Park & Games, Sunday 7/21 at 12:00p at Red Bank Battlefield
  • S’mores & More, Friday 8/9 at 6:00p

The sun is shining, school is coming to a close, and our youth group season is wrapping up so we want to kick the summer off with a pool party! Hosted at 973 Johnson Rd, Sicklerville, Hope Youth will be celebrating the school year, giving our seniors a proper send off, and enjoying some quality time poolside. Whether you are entering 6th grade in the fall, saying goodbye to high school, or anything in between you are invited! We want to make this a really special kick-off though, which is why we are asking for your help! Church isn’t only for those in the know, but also for those who don’t know yet! And while it can be difficult sometimes to invite a friend out to church, pool parties with free food are an easy invite! That’s why we are asking and encouraging you to bring friends along and help us make this a party to remember!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

Stay in the loop for all of the most important notifications! Text “”hopeyouth” to (856) 420-6078 to start receiving updates this week!
