Hope Notes 06/07/2023

June 7, 2023

Hello Hoper,
As someone with very limited family, my friendships take on an extra special meaning.  These friends become like family to me.  I am thankful that my circle of friends is made up of good and godly people. People I can trust.  I don’t have to worry that one of them might be a ‘bad influence’ on me.  That wasn’t always the case.  I had my high school friends who weren’t necessarily ‘bad’, but they certainly didn’t encourage me to walk the straight and narrow. There’s a reason parents often quote Proverbs 13:20 to their children! “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” (NLT) And yes, I had my share of trouble back then.
We need to choose our friendships carefully. Simply consider how many conversations we have with our friends. Think of the wide variety of subjects we cover – faith, marriage, parenting, career choices, family, and more. Those interactions happen not just in person, but on social media, via emails, or our phones. That’s a lot of communication swirling with influence. We need to be able to trust that our friends are giving godly advice. “The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.” Proverbs 27:9 (NLT) Righteous relationships nurture us with love and encouragement. They challenge us with honesty and love when necessary and are generous with grace. True friends always have our best interest at heart, even when dishing out that tough love.
I pray that you would have friendships like these; that these friends would become your chosen family, and that we all can offer this same kind of friendship in return. “Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.” (Proverbs 17:9 NLT)
“Friends are friends forever when the Lord’s the Lord of them” (MWS)…….Lois

Unity | Communion
(John 17:20-26)

We live in the United States of America.  But we probably don’t think about the irony of that name for the current state of the country we call home. There have always been disagreements and debates, but it seems that there are few times in our nation’s history when we have been more divided than we are now. We used to see tragedy join us together, but now even that seems to be another reason to argue and fight. Jesus doesn’t want division to be a marker of His people.  As Christians, we belong to another kingdom, and Jesus’ prayer for us as well as all believers is that the Father would make us one. Living in a culture that normalizes division, it can be hard to even know where to start. Let’s take a look again at Jesus’ words about unity in Him and see if the Spirit will help us understand how to be one in Christ.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

LEVEL UP: Wednesdays at 7:00 thru June 21st
We are focusing on taking your relationship with Jesus to the next level by offering programs for all ages built to strengthen your faith and deepen your spiritual knowledge.

It’s not too late to join these classes:

  • SURVEY OF THE GOSPELS: Led by Dwight Lein
  • THE SEARCH FOR SIGNIFICANCE: Led by Jess St. Petery
  • GRIEVING WITH HOPE: Led by Lorraine Otis

For the month of May we averaged $9463 per week, bringing our annual weekly giving average down to $10,221. While the yearly average remains above our target of $9655, the month of May lagged behind it.  Please pray with us that we can faithfully meet or exceed our budget each month as we look to keep saving towards future needs (like a building).

WONDERMOMS SUMMER PARK TOUR: First meet-up tomorrow!
If you have children in our WonderZone (0-PreK) join us this summer as we visit different parks with our kids. We’ll meet at 10:30 – noon the 2nd Thursday of each month for a playdate! Our first get together will beat  Red Bank Battlefield – just 5 minutes from Hope! Any questions contact Kara May (karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org) or Emily DiLorenzo (emily@hopechristianfellowship.org) or join their Facebook Group here!

Here at Hope, God work through regular people like you. And when you faithfully and sacrificially serve, parts of your soul come alive – you actually grow spiritually! That’s because God made His people to build His kingdom together. God wants you, we need you, and you need to serve. That’s why for the month of June we’ll be focusing on all the ways you can get involved and volunteer to “Make Hope Happen!” Keep your eyes on social media and newsletters for more information over the coming weeks! You can also fill out a volunteer form here, or contact emily@hopechristianfellowship.org with questions!

VBS is back July 24-28th and we need YOU! We’re looking for a group of awesome volunteers who are ready to invest in the faith of our children! As a VBS volunteer, you can help us create a life-changing event with an eternal impact on every child that attends. We need prep night helpers, decorations team members, registration team members, snack team helpers, church decorators, and crew leaders! Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

Summer is almost here and we’ve got a VBS planned that’s going to be out of this world! Our theme this year is Stellar – Shine Jesus’ Light! You won’t want your kids to miss out on learning how they can shine Jesus’ light with our awesome VBS songs, Bible adventure lessons, Bible memory buddies, and more! The fun happens July 24th-28th from 9:30AM-Noon for our 3-5 year olds and 6PM-8:30PM for our K-5th Graders. Sign your kids up today!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

We’re so excited to invest in our HopeKids! on Wednesday evenings, during our Level Up series, by providing classes for infants through 5th graders! Our elementary kids will be paired up with our preschoolers for a portion of the evening to work together on a craft, game, or activity. We can’t wait to see how God works in & through our elementary kids to serve, lead by example, and encourage our preschoolers! Your kids won’t want to miss out on these fun-filled Wednesday nights, engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
