Hope Notes 11/02/2022

November 2, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
Those of us who are in our ‘golden years’ will remember the things we did in our childhood that would NEVER fly in today’s world.  We drank from hoses and rode without seatbelts.  I personally rode my bike behind the mosquito truck as it spewed out the magical fog meant to eradicate the neighborhood’s mosquitos. (Perhaps that’s what’s wrong with me today!)  Our moms turned us loose in the morning to roam the neighborhood, the woods, and other assorted places with instructions to simply be home for lunch or dinner.  I was allowed to walk by myself to my friend’s house far from my mother’s eye at age five. Horrors! I also got in ‘big trouble’ when said friend and I went off to explore the forbidden beehives and I had literal bees in my bonnet resulting in numerous stings and a terrified race back home. None of us realized these were magical moments our future children would never get to experience.
When I think about those long ago days it makes me wonder what are the privileges and moments we enjoy today that future generations will not encounter. Our world is changing fast. Technology, medicine, how we shop, everything. As Christians though, we can take comfort in knowing that God never changes. He tells us that Himself in Malachi 3:6. “I the LORD do not change.”  The God that our children and our children’s children will know is the same God revealed in Scripture.  He will never be different from what He has already shown Himself to be in the past. He is not only unchanging, but is just, all-knowing, all-powerful, ever present, holy, faithful and loving. His Son Jesus who gave up His life for us remains the same. “Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
As for those magical moments so fondly recalled?  Although the future generations will never breathe in that mosquito fog, or be allowed to roam wild and free, they will receive benefits from technology and medical advances.  They still have the heavenly Father’s love, Jesus’ gift of salvation, and Scripture’s words of encouragement and counsel.  All good gifts from a good Father. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
He still has good gifts – Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
Wake Up (Revelation 3:1-6)
Today, we hear a lot of talk about being ‘Woke’. That one word has been used as either a challenge or a derogatory label for people. Depending on what you think are the best answers for our country, you can think that being called ‘woke’ is a compliment or a curse. But long before it became a code word for some social or political ideology, Jesus came with a message to the church in Sardis, telling them to ‘Wake up.’ Do we know what a sleeping church looks like? What does Jesus mean when He says this to the church and what would that look like today? We may be surprised at what how this church is described because it seems far away from what our idea of ‘sleeping’ would be. So let’s hear from Jesus for the church at Sardis and see if there are any messages we need for our lives!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY: Christian Sexuality – Final Meeting!
We’ll take a Christ-centered look at sex, marriage, and sexual identity. There are big questions facing both individuals and the church at large surrounding these topics, and we’ll explore the answers God has given us in scripture together as a church family. We’ll discuss sex in marriage, singleness, pornography, shame & forgiveness, and God’s love for us. Single or married, parent or not, there is something for everyone to learn. You won’t want to miss out on this time of study and conversation. This series will be in-person only; childcare provided.

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
Psalm 1:3-4

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.”

We’re doing this through a 30 Hour Famine on November 11 & 12 with World Vision, an organization committed to feeding communities as well as providing them with the education and equipment to feed themselves in the future. A simple donation of $40 can feed a child for a whole month!

Join us in raising money to fight hunger by donating on our World Vision event page here.

BAPTISM SERVICE: Nov 9th at 7:00
You are not going to want to miss this powerful and encouraging service! Hear from fellow Hopers as they share their testimonies and make a public declaration of faith. Come out and show your support as they take this next step in their relationship with Jesus! Nursery will be provided for our Hopers 2 and under.

Please stop by and take a box and make a child smile. Here’s how to make this easy & fun: CHOOSE a boy or girl and the age category. FILL WITH a quality ‘wow’ item, then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. PRAY for the child who will receive your gifts; you can include a personal note & photo.  If you’d like,

you can donate the $10 per box shipping online and receive a tracking label to discover the destination of your shoebox. Finished boxes are due back November 13th

HOPE YOUTH
YOUTH GROUP: Sundays 6:00-8:00
Senior High Series: Christian Sexuality
The topic of sex, marriage, & sexual identity is inescapable in our world, and rather than forfeit that conversation, we want to be on the forefront of it in the lives of the next generation of believers. That’s why we’re using a curriculum designed by Christian scholars and experts on how faith intersects with our sexuality. It doesn’t shy away from any topic or subject, and always turns to Scripture for how to answer and approach rather than bending to what the world has to say.

Junior High Series: Who Am I?
As students make the big transition from elementary school to middle school (and Go Zone to youth group) the world also starts asking them tough and difficult questions. In just a few short years the world will try desperately to put our 6th and 7th graders into as confining a box as possible. The core of this series is that our central identity is “loved by God”; who God has made me to be, how I can live into that, and why that identity God has made for me is one worth being. Who Am I? will help our students develop a firm foundation for the future.

SENIOR HIGH SMALL GROUP:
This small group will provide our senior high students with the opportunity to dive more deeply into the Word and create a space to more vulnerably and openly discuss faith and how it comes up against the challenges of the world. Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00. Our next meeting will be November 3rd at Dan & Mackenzie’s – 1634 Atlantic Ave, Apt B (upstairs), Williamstown NJ.

HOPE YOUTH CALENDAR:
Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

GOZONE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM:

You’ll want to have your kids on time in the GoZone so that they don’t miss out! Click here to listen to the songs! Contact Pastor Ryan with any questions at ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org

HOPEKIDS HANGOUT:
All elementary kids are invited to join us in the GoZone on Sunday nights from

6PM-8PM for an extra dose of fun and Bible study. Just like on Sunday mornings, we gather together for games, Bible stories, and prayer—but with an extra hour there’s twice the excitement, bigger games, and more time to get to know each other! This September we will be continuing our journey through What’s In the Bible, picking up where we left off and brushing up on our Old Testament knowledge.

SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMS:
We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.
