Hope Notes 08/04/2021

August 4, 2021

Hello Hoper~
Let’s see……I’ve been doing the Hope Notes for about 15 years.  That makes about 15 VBS closing Programs I’ve seen.  And that makes about 15 times I’ve cried my way through them.  I’m such a sap; I don’t even have any children in the program!  But there is something about seeing all those sweet young faces on stage jumping and singing with joy about God that gets me every time.  I always wonder what their future holds.  Will they do great things for His Kingdom?  Will they stray?  Maybe they will simply live God honoring, Christ centered lives; serving in their churches and raising THEIR children to love the Lord. And guess what?  Since 15 years is a long span of time to watch these children go through VBS, I HAVE gotten to see some of them grow up and serve right here at Hope!
It is so important to teach our young ones the Word of God and the precious Truths it holds for them (and us!). Hearing the children repeat Scripture in simple words replants it deep within my own soul.  We’ve heard the Word of God referred to as a seed. “Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.” (Luke 8:11)  Once that seed is planted it remains in our subconscious.  It gets imprinted on our hearts and minds. As our children grow up, they may put it in the back of their minds as more things come in, but it remains there, waiting for a trigger, or for a moment to bring it back to the forefront.  The Word of God is never lost forever to someone who knows or knew it.  Let’s just be sure we don’t depend solely on the church to teach our children.  We need to continue imparting these valuable lessons at home – reading the Bible together, praying, and setting an example in how we live. “Train up a child the way he should go, and when he grows old, he will never depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
In closing, let me say that I’ve got another couple years of tearfully sniffing my way through these programs until my grandson is up there.  Then the waterworks will REALLY let loose! I’ll understand if no one wants to sit next to me.

Improve the Conversation (Communion)
(James 1:19-20; Galatians 5:22-23; 6:1; Ephesians 4:3; Romans 12:2)

Social media has definitely generated more outlets for conversation. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is probably something to debate, but it highlights an area where Christians should excel. Because we know the King and are confident in His reign over all, we can walk into every interaction with a security and peace that the lost don’t have. We can take instruction from God’s Word on what healthy conversation looks like and live that out in the discussions around us both virtually and in real life. Because of that, Christians should improve any conversation they enter. Maybe that’s not the norm, but it should be. Let’s take some time this morning to look at what we know and how to use it in our interactions with others.

Romans 8:14-15

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.”

Fear is deceptive. It often looks like any number of other things (preparedness, wisdom, caution, etc). Ask the Spirit to show you where you are returning to fear. What steps can you take to insulate yourself from returning to fear?

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

For the month of July, we averaged $7730 per week which is significantly below our annual weekly giving target of $9325.  This has brought our average for the year down to $8874.  We are praying for the Lord’s provision through the faithfulness of each Hoper in giving as the Lord directs.
