Hope Notes 10/09/2019

October 9, 2019

How do you react when you’re under pressure?  If I’m honest, I’d have to say that I often get anxious, which leads to me feeling overwhelmed and paralyzed.  Some people find themselves getting angry or impatient with those around them.  You know what?  Pressure or stress cannot create anything that has not existed before. That means that what comes out of us when we are stressed already exists within us.  One of my favorite scriptures reminds me of this very fact. Luke 6:45 points out that ‘out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks’.  So that’s scary enough, but you know what’s even more frightening?  The Lord God knows EXACTLY what’s in our hearts, our mouths don’t even need to speak it for Him to realize it!  Not only does He know; He will use the pressure of trials to reveal it to us!  A wise man pointed out that while hot water is necessary to make tea, it really only reveals what is already in the bag.  The process of molding and forming us more into His image requires pressure. “Dear friends, don’t be surprised by the fiery troubles that are coming in order to test you….” (1 Peter 4:12)  Also, this gold standard: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4)  Can we do this?  Expect and embrace the things that put pressure on us to develop us into stronger disciples?  The next time you find yourself under the gun, stop and think about whether you blame the circumstances for what is produced you or if you recognize that the only things pouring out of your heart are those things that were already there. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23)

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE –  Unexpected Salvation (Exodus 2:1-10)
Sometimes we ask God for too little.  Probably all the time. God is not the God of the ‘just enough’ or the ‘what you expected’.  He is the God of ‘more than we could ask or imagine’. Yet, when we pray and try to hold onto that idea, our limited way of thinking and seeing so often overrides our faith. We can’t quite believe that God would be impossibly good because we don’t see how what’s happening can be good.  We don’t think waiting is good, or that what’s unfolding without God’s intervention can be good.  So we start to doubt.  If ever a people could have doubted God’s goodness, it would have been the Israelites in slavery.  And yet Exodus is a story to show us that God brings salvation from places and through situations that we’d never expect. Moses’ mom hoped for her son to survive.  God had much bigger plans.

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Join us for our study in the book of Ephesians.  This book is a beautiful revelation of the Church and the spiritual blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Paul explains the mystery of the church and gives practical insight into living as believers.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.”

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it!   Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!

Go Zone is our Sunday Morning kid’s service, planned especially for K-5th graders. Our goal is to encourage the kids to live with their focus on “GOing for GOD, GOing for GROWTH, and GOing FOREVER!” This service includes worship, games, and exploring important biblical truths in fun and creative ways before heading off to Sunday school. Follow HopeKids! Ministries on Facebook at: facebook.com/HCFHopeKid

Great news for our GoZone! Thanks to the willing hearts of many of you, we now have enough volunteers to expand the GoZone to include any children who are currently in kindergarten and feel ready to join starting October 13th! This, of course, is up to the parents’ discretion. If you would like your child to remain in the Fours & Fives class until the start of the new year, that’s no problem at all. We’re thankful that God provided a way for us to include more kids in the GoZone sooner, and we look forward to seeing you October 13th!

K-5th Grade Bible Study and Epic Hangout Time
Join us for a study of God’s word, snacks, video games, theme nights and epic skits!
HopeKids! Christmas Program practices have begun! Make sure to have your kids out each and every Sunday at the 9:00 and 11:00 services. Performances for toddlers/preschoolers will be Sunday, December 8th at both worship services. Performances for our K-5th Graders will be Sunday, December 22nd at the 9:00 and 11:00 services. Make sure to invite your family and friends!
We are still in need of a few volunteers to help us make this program a success! Contact Matt Russell if you are interested.

For the month of September, we averaged $8540 per week, bringing our annual weekly giving average down to $9076.  This remains above our target of $8500 per week, but is well behind what we’ve been averaging this year. As we head into next year, we’re praying that we can maintain the progress we’ve made this year in giving, and even move forward from here.
For our HVAC projects, we have now received a total of $55,700 towards our ultimate target of $65,000.  These projects are continuing with a new heating system for the youth room, as well as new high efficiency AC for the auditorium. Thank you to everyone who continues to sacrifice so that we can address our operational and building needs!

We here at Hope are happy to report that we have added a few more partners to our family!  Extending a warm welcome to Mark and Brenda Hallahan and Anthony (AC) Collins; grateful for your decision to make Hope your official home!
