Hope Notes 06/26/2019

June 26, 2019

Dear Hope Friends,

Pastor David Jeremiah said, “When you have Bible verses inscribed in your mind, you’re carrying a concealed weapon. You’re wielding the sword of the Spirit.” I love that! I never thought of having God’s Word buried deep into my heart as a concealed weapon. Hebrews 4:12 tells us “that the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” That’s one powerful weapon! Did you know that the phrase ‘sword of the spirit’ is found only once in Scripture? You’ll find it in Ephesians 6. This is where Paul instructs us to “Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (vs11) Verse 17 is where we find the all-important counsel to “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” The purpose of the sword of the Spirit—the Bible—is to make us strong and able to withstand the evil onslaughts of Satan and this world. “We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.” (2 Corinthians 10:4) But we can’t do that unless we have those Words etched into our hearts and minds. You can’t just whip out a Bible, begin searching for the right verse and cross references when you’re suddenly faced with an inflammatory situation. It needs to be so engraved within you that it just pops up and brings immediate relief, guidance, peace, or whatever is needed in the moment. We need to apply the principle found in Psalm 119:11 and ‘hide God’s word in our hearts’. God is not about to leave us defenseless against the enemy, or the depravity of this world. He has graciously supplied us with His Word, our concealed weapon. A weapon that we don’t even need a license to carry!

Why We Worship – A series on the depth behind our singing together in church.
Each week we get together as a church and sing. In fact, churches all around the world get together every Sunday and do the same thing. But do you know why this is virtually a universal part of church? We even see worship singing in heaven! Why is this such a big deal? And what do you miss when you don’t show up? In the next few weeks, we’ll see how much worship means and why it is an indispensable part of your Christian life. Hopefully, when we’re through, we’ll all value showing up at church to worship together more than ever before.

We have been learning about the reasons we worship for the past two months. Today, we get to embrace every one of those reasons. So let’s Do Battle, Fix Our Hope, Give God Glory, Respond, and Recover as we worship. It is a privilege to worship the Creator and Savior, and it is something we desperately need for the well-being of our souls and our relationship with Him. Join your heart with ours as we spend this morning worshiping our Lord and our Great God!

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it! Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Do you have a friend group or family circle that needs you to courageously bring up church and find a way to invite them to join you?

Please fill out a volunteer registration form and return to Matt Russell by this Sunday, June 30th (deadline extended).
NOTE: There will be an informational meeting this Sunday between services in the youth room for anyone who has volunteered or who is interested in volunteering.

We need lots of supplies to make our VBS a ‘roaring’ success for our kids! Check out our VBS donations request slips (in the lion’s mane) on the bulletin board next to the GoZone. If you’d like to help, just grab one and then return the supplies by July 7th. We thank you in advance for your help!

Comforting Hearts is a new ministry at Hope which seeks to minister to those in the church facing healthcare situations. It is our desire to bring encouragement, comfort, and hope to our brothers and sisters in Christ during these challenging moments. Visitation can be immediate, as a medical crisis arises, or prearranged in situations involving pre- or post-surgical care, or for extended illnesses in home, hospital or rehab centers. To arrange a visit, or for more information, call or text John McCarson at 856-677-7796

How much do you appreciate and rely on the scriptures Mark uses in his messages, the lyrics to our songs of worship, and the pre-service announcements? I bet they’d be missed if even for just one week! That’s where you come in! We are really shorthanded and, since we believe in sharing the load in all our ministry teams, we’re putting out the call for help! Please contact Dana (danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org) and/or Rick (rick861@mac.com) today for more info on how you can get involved!

Many of you registered to be a part of this great resource that helps us connect to each other, but we need you to take a few minutes to make it even better! How? Three simple things: 1. Upload a profile picture so we can recognize you! 2. Complete your family information so we can know who is part of your crew! 3. Tell us your birthday so we can celebrate you! We’d also love for you to download the app so you can connect with Hopers from your smart phone. It doesn’t get much more convenient than that!

We post all of our Sunday morning messages as well as Wednesday night bible studies on our YouTube channel. It’s a great place to catch up on a lesson you might have missed. Subscribe to our channel, Hope Christian Fellowship, and never miss a video! You can even set-up notifications for when we post new content! If you’re interested in helping our video ministry, contact Charlie Peterson at cajapeterson2@gmail.com.

Have you seen our new Prayer Wall in the coffee room? Be sure to check it out and pick up a prayer request, leave your own, or both! Requests can be anonymous or leave your name, whatever you feel comfortable with. Take and leave as many as you’d like! This is a great way to connect to each other and bear one another’s burdens.
Hope Share just got easier than ever! Our new page is a closed group for Hopers only. It’s easy to upload photos of items you’d like to give away and to search for that special item you just might need! Join the group and start meeting each other’s needs! Visit facebook.com/HCFWoodbury/ and request to join!

** That God would lead us to the right man for the future Assistant Pastor position and provide the necessary weekly giving growth to add him to staff.
