Hope Notes 04/10/2019

April 10, 2019

Dear Hope Friends,

Where do you like to sit during church? I like to sit right up front, right where the action is! If I sit close enough I just might catch a little of God’s glory falling from the stage as our worship team sings praises. Or maybe I’ll be bathed in the light of the Spirit as Pastor Mark preaches. Or (and this is more like it)…..I won’t be distracted by all the people sitting in front of me! I really like to be up close and personal; it helps me to cut out any distractions and focus on whatever the Lord has for me. However, lots of people prefer to sit in the back. That’s all fine and dandy for most of the year, but during the Easter season we normally get a bunch of new folks walking through our doors for the first time. And usually, THOSE folks don’t want to have to make the long, scary walk up to the front of the auditorium. Nor do they want to feel like a ‘bother’, having to step over legs and laps in order to find a seat. Oh, and need I mention how intimidating it can be to newcomers to have to sit that close to the pastor?! I know WE all love Pastor Mark, and he is the least scary person around, but try and remember how it felt to have to sit right up front by the teacher. Guess it’s kind of the same feeling. So, I’m asking on behalf of Hope if we could all move towards the front of the auditorium and the center of our rows in order to smooth the way for all the Easter attenders. And while I’m on this Public Service Announcement train, let’s all remember to greet those we see with a smile (newcomer or not!) because “A cheerful look brings joy to the heart…..” (Proverbs 15:30) and be ready to offer assistance with any questions they might have. We want all our guests to feel at home and love Hope as much as we do!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Palm Sunday – (Matthew 21:1-11)
The Sunday before Easter has been celebrated throughout the history of Christianity as the beginning of Passion Week. It is such a vivid contrast to the way the week ends. Jesus rides into Jerusalem as a king, to the cheers of the crowd. We have just finished looking at the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus describes His Kingdom. And now He arrives as the ruler of that Kingdom. Yet, what the crowd expected that day did not play out. Instead, Jesus embodies exactly what He has taught in the Sermon on the Mount: that His Kingdom would be a very different kind of kingdom. Jesus shows Himself as King just before He chooses to humble Himself and lay down His life for the people of His Kingdom.

You won’t want to miss our choir’s presentation of “The Story-The Musical” which is based on the book by Max Lucado with music written by Nichole Nordeman. It’s not just a Resurrection story, it’s the bigger, beautiful, miraculous story of God’s redemptive plan from Genesis to Revelation. The performance dates will be Good Friday (April 19th) at 7:00 pm and Easter Sunday (April 21st) at both services.

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.
SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

I will not look with approval on anything that is vile. I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it. The perverse in heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with what is evil.

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it! Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Do you have room in your small group to include someone new?

We have resources to help you stay committed to reading. One plan will guide you to read through the New Testament in a year reading about a chapter per day, while the other plan is more of an overview of the entire bible in a year, reading about 15 verses a day. You can also download the PDFs on our website under the “Resources” drop-down.

Come join us for this study on the book of Ephesians. It’s a good mid-week boost for our spiritual growth. If you are unable to make it out, you can watch our live stream on Facebook!
Please Note: Bible study will be cancelled on the 17th. Take Easter week and spend time with your families. Maybe reflect on what this week means to us as believers. We will see you on Good Friday and, of course, Easter Sunday!

We have a variety of small groups set up for you to join! This is an easy way to get connected and grow closer to your fellow Hopers. Check out the Small Groups Bulletin Board to see what’s going on or contact Dave Hallahan (dmhallahan5@gmail.com) or Chick Dougherty (chickdoc@verizon.net) with any questions.
Please Note: The final Small Group sheet will be going out April 28th

For the month of March, we averaged $9629 per week, bringing our annual weekly giving average to $9339. For our year, our target is $8500 per week, but we challenged our church family to grow in giving this year, and our current track record shows that we are rising to meet this challenge. This pattern will allow us to move forward as a church into the growth that God is calling us to. So thank you to everyone who has stepped forward and sacrificed faithfully to give to Hope!
Also, for our HVAC special project, we are now at a grand total of $46,916. Our bottom line on these projects is $65,000, so we’re continuing to make progress towards what we need to receive to address all of our planned repairs and upgrades to our HVAC systems. We are hoping to finish collecting this money in this calendar year so we can address everything we need to before 2020.

ROYAL TEA PARTY – Saturday, May 18th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm
A Royal Tea Party for Daughters of the King: Calling all ladies! You are cordially invited to join us for a royal tea party! We’ll also have a sign-up for some fun tea party treats if you’d like to help by bringing an item on the list! This event is open to all ladies who are post high school and up.
