Hope Notes 11/14/18

November 14, 2018

Dear Friends of Hope,

Thanksgiving is the time of year when we typically take inventory of our blessings and all that we have. Which is a wonderful and humbling thing. It causes us to stop and consider all that we have been graced with. But have you ever stopped to consider thanking God for all that we DON’T have? Not that we won’t have trials; we will. But we know that God allows each hardship for His specific good purpose. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28). We don’t have to worry that a trial will be more than we can bear. He puts limits on our troubles. “Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.” (1Corinthians 10:13) Our momentary troubles here on earth are opportunities for God to show us His faithfulness and mercy. Nor do we have to worry about eternity. As His children, we are assured that we will spend it with Him. “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” (John 10:29) We don’t have to worry about being alone, for He has promised never to leave us or forsake us. “…….God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). Things to think about, right? This year, let’s allow the gratitude to flow both for what we have and also for what we don’t!

The greatest sermon ever preached still has unbelievable power to change us. Jesus spoke these words about 2000 years ago to a large audience on a hillside, but He meant them to challenge us as well. The thoughts upend normal thinking on almost every spiritual front, and if we want to follow Jesus, much of what He represents starts here!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – 11/18 – Praise Service
This kickoff to Thanksgiving week is one of the best days of the year at Hope. We spend our time lifting up our voices in song, and then we open up time for the church family to share their thankfulness with one another. Our service will be a powerful reminder of what God has done for us and give us a chance to pour out our gratitude. Plus, we’ll have a special opportunity to be used by God in sharing thankfulness and encouragement with our brothers and sisters at Hope!
Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with. Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up! “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday. So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the Youth Room to pray together for God’s power in each of us. We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Unable to make it out for Wednesday nights? We are LIVE STREAMING our Thinking Out Loud series on Facebook! Watch and interact from your phone or computer live! We’ll also continue to post videos of the night to our YouTube channel, so you can catch up at anytime. Or, listen to our Podcast on iTunes.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be looking at topics where those who do not have experience can gain from those who do. So, if you have any experience with the upcoming topics (Depression, Racism, etc) we’d love to have you come out and share with us so that we can all learn more and be better prepared to engage with one another.
11/14 – Unanswered Questions
We’ve covered a wide range of topics throughout this series – LGBTQ, Politics, #MeToo, Racism, and more – but perhaps you’ve had questions we haven’t addressed. We’ll be spending our final Thinking Out Loud trying to answer those questions. So, if you have anything on your mind – digging deeper into one of the topics we’ve covered or concerning a topic we haven’t touched on at all – submit them on the Facebook Event page or to dmhallahan5@gmail.com
