Hope Notes 04/10/2024

April 10, 2024
Hello Hoper,
I don’t know about you, but I have a really hard time trying to pull up a person’s voice in my memory. Not just voices from the past but also current day ones. There are a few that stand out to me but for the most part I just draw a blank. It pains me that my husband can hear my mother’s voice in his head and I cannot. I would give anything to hear her soft voice again, yet it has risen away like mist from the lake of my memories. Try as we might, there are some things we just cannot hold onto. It could be a memory, a face, a voice, a relationship, a life, our finances….the list could go on and on. This realization makes me aware that there is really nothing in life that we can actually cling to and keep close. Most things are fleeting, falling like grains of sand between our fingers. Shifting away like a shadow across the sun.  Blowing away on the slightest breeze. Those are the things we must learn to hold loosely. But what is the one thing we can and should hold onto for dear life? Cling to it as tightly as we can? Our relationship with Jesus Christ. As believers, even when we let go, He never lets go of us. “The LORD will never desert His people or abandon those who belong to Him.” (Psalm 94:14 GWT) This truth is our solid rock, our foundation. James 1:17 even tells us that our Father “does not change like shifting shadows”. He is our constant.  Listen to what God Himself says in Psalm 91:14-15 MSG: “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,”   says GOD, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me.”  While I still wish I could hear my momma’s voice, I know that in eternity I will hear all the voices of heaven joining together in worship and praise.  What a beautiful sound that will be…….and I know that glorious chorus will resound forever in my heart.
Clinging to Him ~  Lois

A New Body (2 Cor. 5:1-10)

As you get older, you may notice that your body doesn’t work like it used to. This shouldn’t be surprising, but it often very much IS! The deterioration of our physical bodies is a given for every single person who ever lived. And often, that causes people to yearn for youth or to try to find a way to feel young again. However, Paul takes a different approach to this reality. In fact, he points us to a different way of viewing the end of our time on earth. This passage is one of the most uplifting and hope-filled in all of Scripture. Let’s see the plain truths that Paul gives that can help us live in our confident hope!

Join us at 6:30 for hot coffee and a sweet treat before heading into our studies at 7:00. We’ll have HopeKids programs for all ages, and several adult classes rolling out over the coming weeks.

  • THE LIFE YOU LONG FOR: Led by Dana Ott in the auditorium This 4-week study teaches women how to fully step into the life you didn’t even realize you’ve been seeking. In our desire to please God, we often make the mistake of finding our worth in what we do instead of the identity we’ve been given – this series challenges us to live from the quiet center of God’s love rather than the busy treadmill we can easily find ourselves on. These are the lessons we worked through at our Women’s Retreat last October, so if you missed that or want a refresher, be sure to sign up so we can have a workbook prepared for you!
  • HIGH ANXIETY: Led by Pastor Ryan in the toddler classroom If you are struggling with anxiety, there is help, but it takes work, time, courage, and patience. In this study, we will address the reality of anxiety as well as the tools that God gives us for conquering that anxiety. We’ll discuss how the enemy uses anxiety to keep us restrained, and how God equips us for the freedom that He promises. If that sounds like something you need to hear, join us for this study!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

For the month of March, we averaged $8662 per week, bringing our annual average down to $9711. Both of these are now below our annual giving target of $9950. We’re asking every Hoper to be a part of supporting this ministry and all that we do together for Jesus and His Kingdom. Our church has grown 24% from last year, but our giving has remained the same. While each person’s situation is unique, this reality highlights how we all must come together and share this calling of financial support. No select group of people can do it on their own. So, pray and seek the Lord on this. Our need for an Assistant Pastor (among many other needs) depends on us growing in our giving as we grow in our attendance. And if we keep growing, we’ll be out of room in this building. But without financial resources, we’ll also be unable to address our need for a new building. Money isn’t what drives our church. But it is a part of our basic needs. We need everyone to pitch in to sacrificially, faithfully, and significantly give so that Hope can keep stepping into our calling as more and more people join us!

Did you know that you can give using a debit or credit card online? You can even set-up a recurring payment plan. We use Simple Church, which is a safe and secure software specifically designed for churches! To give to Hope online, click here!

Please remember that there is no parking on Warner Street on the side closest to the church (the curb is yellow.) This allows for cars to enter and exit the parking lot without a jam. Try driving all the way back to our main lot and consider parking on the grass before parking on one of the designated streets!

For the month of April, we’re helping our partners at Seeds of Hope Ministries in Camden by collecting items for those in need. Please consider donating the following items: men’s jeans (all sizes), women’s leggings/jeans (sizes 0-8), mens & women’s t-shirts. All donations can be dropped in the collection bins at either entrance of the door.

WONDERMOMS: This Thursday!
All moms of preschoolers (0-5) are invited to join us on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10:30-noon for fellowship, study, and hot coffee & snacks! There is childcare provided, so come have a time of rest and recharge with other moms and sisters in Christ! We are currently reading “Risen Motherhood,” but you can hop in at anytime! For all the details, check out our Facebook group.

WOMEN OF HOPE: April 15th at 6:30p
Soup, salad, sisterhood! Oh, and bread sticks! Everyone is invited to join us for this night of devotion, sisterly love, support and fun! We laugh, we cry, we play games and we do it all together as sisters in Christ! We’ll share a devotional on 2 Corinthians 10:5 and the practice of taking our thoughts captive, followed by all you can eat! So, please join us and don’t forget to bring a friend!

One of our most used spaces is getting a well deserved makeover! Get ready for a new and improved Youth Room! Volunteers are needed to help rip up floors and take down drywall in the GoZone on Saturday, April 20th at 8:30am.  Sign-up in the lobby if you can help! Bring gloves, eye protection, crowbars, wheelbarrows, etc. Contact Mike Hartwell with any questions.

Did you know that Hope has an online directory where you can access the contact information of other Hopers? Our directory is password protected and available to Hopers only. This tool is a great way to stay connected to one another – there’s even a mobile app! To be a part, join us on Sunday, April 21st for Directory Day. We will be registering new folks in the kitchen after each service. You’ll even get your photo taken for the site! Any questions, contact Emily DiLorenzo.

SEEDS OF HOPE: Opportunity to Serve
In addition to collecting items through the month of April, we are also partnering with SOH by helping to serve breakfast to those experiencing food insecurity. We have six spots available to serve on Saturday, May 4th, at 8:00am. (1722 S. Broadway, Camden.) If you are interested in volunteering, or have any questions, contact Stacy Reid

Please consider joining us on Tuesday, May 14th at 7:00pm if you are interested in learning about VA benefit programs related to aging and survivor benefits. The seminar will cover: Veterans Pension, Survivor Pension, Burial benefits, and Dependency Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for surviving spouses. This seminar is not about increasing your service connection; it’s about how the VA can fit into elder planning. Bring a friend that might need to hear this information as well. Fill out this form to attend. Any questions can be directed to Mike Holovacs.

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 6:30
The Young Adults ministry at Hope is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. During our current series, “Dinner With Jesus,” we meet for dinner and then have bible study, so be sure to come with an appetite! Any questions, contact Brian & Wendy Ball at briwensean@aol.com

All teens 6th-12th grades are invited to join us on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00p for fellowship, fun, and study! Any questions? Contact Youth Director, Dan Lein

In a contentious age of conflicting opinions and snappy arguments it can be difficult to know what you believe, but as you grow and enter adulthood it becomes more and more evident that, whether it is strong or not, your faith is your own, and no one else’s. In this series Hope Youth will look throughout the narrative of the Bible and see how God’s people have owned their faith throughout history and what exactly they had faith in. Through this teens will see and learn the power of ownership, in their work, relationships, and faith.

WHAT IS LOVE: New Midweek Series
Join us starting April 10th for this new Wednesday Night Bible Study series! In a rapidly developing world of changing definitions it can be daunting for any student to navigate the tricky emotion of love. In this Bible series students will explore what the Bible has to say about love, redefining not just romance but the true love that we see exemplified perfectly in Jesus Christ.

GUYS & GIRLS NIGHT: May 3rd from 6:00-9:00p
Back by popular demand, Hope Youth will be having a Guys’ and Girls’ night! Our gents will be gathering around a proper bonfire for some flame grilled food and backyard sports at John McCarson’s house (860 Main Street Sewell, NJ 08080.) Meanwhile our ladies will be gathering together at the Peterson residence (833 Hardingville Rd, Monroeville, 08343) for a color-themed craft night! The ladies are making encouraging prayer jars for one another all while enjoying some delicious snacks! Mark your calendar and invite a friend!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

Stay in the loop for all of the most important notifications! Text “”hopeyouth” to (856) 420-6078 to start receiving updates this week!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HOPEKIDS! HANGOUT: Sundays from 6:00-8:00p
Come to HopeKids! Hangout for games, snacks, and Bible study! We’re digging deep into the Bible with our new series, “The Heart of God.” Each week we will be reading different passages from Scripture on a quest to learn more about the character and nature of our Creator, and reinforcing those lessons with activities and games to go along with it. If you have a K-5th grader in your sphere of influence, draw them nearer to God by sending them to HopeKids! Hangout!

Each week we will be looking back at our Bible story from Sunday morning in a new way and doing fresh activities to reinforce our monthly theme. Plus, we’ll be storing God’s Word in our hearts by learning and practicing a new Bible verse every week—so you won’t want your kids to miss a single Wednesday!

The Nursery team is excited to love on your little ones (0-2), while our Preschool (3-5) team dives into an Alphabet Scripture Memory study! Every week they will learn a new Bible Verse, and each week they return with their verse memorized, they’ll earn a letter to attach to their Scripture Sash! Your kids will want to join us every Wednesday night to plant God’s Word in their hearts, earn all of their letters, have fun building a foundation of faith, and even have a chance to connect with our GoZone kids every week!
