Hope Notes 04/03/2024

April 3, 2024
Hello Hoper,
Last week we celebrated Jesus’ triumphant resurrection on Easter Sunday following His sacrificial death as He went to the cross in payment for our sins.  I’ve been thinking about our sin debt and the comparison to financial debt came to mind.  With both, we either pay now or we pay later, but we will still pay.  Whether it’s for our sin or for our financial liabilities.  There’s just no getting around it.  Financial debt can certainly feel challenging, and even overwhelming. However, spiritual debt is much more dangerous, because its impact is eternal!  All of us have a spiritual debt we cannot pay, but the Bible tells us God has paid our debt. He canceled the payment due for our sins and instead accepted the payment His Son Jesus provided when He died on the cross. “….But God has now brought you to life with Christ. God forgave us all our sins; he canceled the unfavorable record of our debts with its binding rules and did away with it completely by nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14) God grants this freedom to all believers.  It makes me think about the following statement:  “He came to pay a debt He did not owe, because we owed a debt we could not pay.” (Author Unknown)  Accepting God’s payment for our spiritual debt means our obligation is paid in full, enabling us to live as His free children. I think it’s important to remember that Jesus died to free us from sin, not enable us to sin.  He released us from our bondage to the slavery of sin.  “Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.” (Romans 6:18 NLT) Let us live in a way that honors the heavy price that Jesus paid for us.  Pursuing righteousness, fleeing from sin, and oh – maybe taking care of our financial debt the best we can!

“He is the payment for our sins, and not only for our sins, but also for the sins of the whole world.”
1 John 2:2 GWT  ~  Lois

Don’t Lose Heart (2 Cor. 4:16-18)

What gets you discouraged? Your story is unique and so are the factors that make you feel like life isn’t working and that you’re not getting anywhere. But everyone knows what it feels like to be frustrated and deflated. Most of the time, the feeling comes from the circumstances of our lives and how we see them. Paul teaches us today that we have choices we can make about how we face even the hardest parts of life that can overcome heart-withering despair. We’ll see in just three short verses some amazing and powerful truths that can steady us in any storm and ground us in any battle.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDIES: New classes start tonight!
Join us at 6:30 for hot coffee and a sweet treat before heading into our studies at 7:00. We’ll have HopeKids programs for all ages, and several adult classes rolling out over the coming weeks. (Please note there will be no class for Hope Youth on 4/3. Join them instead at noon for their movie matinee!)

  • THE LIFE YOU LONG FOR: Led by Dana Ott in the toddler classroom This 4-week study teaches women how to fully step into the life you didn’t even realize you’ve been seeking. In our desire to please God, we often make the mistake of finding our worth in what we do instead of the identity we’ve been given – this series challenges us to live from the quiet center of God’s love rather than the busy treadmill we can easily find ourselves on. These are the lessons we worked through at our Women’s Retreat last October, so if you missed that or want a refresher, be sure to sign up so we can have a workbook prepared for you!
  • HIGH ANXIETY: Led by Pastor Ryan in the auditorium If you are struggling with anxiety, there is help, but it takes work, time, courage, and patience. In this study, we will address the reality of anxiety as well as the tools that God gives us for conquering that anxiety. We’ll discuss how the enemy uses anxiety to keep us restrained, and how God equips us for the freedom that He promises. If that sounds like something you need to hear, join us for this study!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Are you new to Hope in 2024? Our staff and elder team would love to get to know you and your family more! Join us this Sunday, April 7th between services in the Flex Room (formerly GoZone 2) for coffee and a sweet treat. This event is open house style, so feel free to pop-in anytime between 9:45-10:45! We look forward to seeing you!

For the month of April, we’re helping our partners at Seeds of Hope Ministries in Camden by collecting items for those in need. Please consider donating the following items: men’s jeans (all sizes), women’s leggings/jeans (sizes 0-8), mens & women’s t-shirts. All donations can be dropped in the collection bins at either entrance of the door.

SEEDS OF HOPE: Opportunity to Serve
In addition to collecting items through the month of April, we are also partnering with SOH by helping to serve breakfast to those experiencing food insecurity. We have six spots available to serve on Saturday, May 4th, at 8:00am. (1722 S. Broadway, Camden.) If you are interested in volunteering, or have any questions, contact Stacy Reid

One of our most used spaces is getting a well deserved makeover! Get ready for a new and improved Youth Room! Volunteers are needed to help rip up floors and take down drywall in the GoZone on Saturday, April 20th at 8:30am.  Sign-up in the lobby if you can help! Bring gloves, eye protection, crowbars, wheelbarrows, etc. Contact Mike Hartwell with any questions.

Please consider joining us on Tuesday, May 14th at 7:00pm if you are interested in learning about VA benefit programs related to aging and survivor benefits. The seminar will cover: Veterans Pension, Survivor Pension, Burial benefits, and Dependency Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for surviving spouses. This seminar is not about increasing your service connection; it’s about how the VA can fit into elder planning. Bring a friend that might need to hear this information as well. Fill out this form to attend. Any questions can be directed to Mike Holvacs.

We want to ask our Hopers to continue to partner in prayer with us as we search for the right person to fill our Assistant Pastor role, as well as our Sound Engineer spot. We trust that God will bring along the exact right person at the exact right time for each job, and we thank you for coming alongside of us to pray for those positions!

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 6:30
The Young Adults ministry at Hope is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. During our current series, “Dinner With Jesus,” we meet for dinner and then have bible study, so be sure to come with an appetite! Any questions, contact Brian & Wendy Ball at briwensean@aol.com

All teens 6th-12th grades are invited to join us on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00p for fellowship, fun, and study! Any questions? Contact Youth Director, Dan Lein

In a contentious age of conflicting opinions and snappy arguments it can be difficult to know what you believe, but as you grow and enter adulthood it becomes more and more evident that, whether it is strong or not, your faith is your own, and no one else’s. In this series Hope Youth will look throughout the narrative of the Bible and see how God’s people have owned their faith throughout history and what exactly they had faith in. Through this teens will see and learn the power of ownership, in their work, relationships, and faith.

LAUNCH EVENT: This Friday!
Join Hope Youth from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, April 5th as we “Jump Into Spring” with our annual Launch Trampoline Event! Admission to the event is only $15, so bring a friend and invite them to the fun! WHAT IS LOVE: New Midweek Series
Join us starting April 10th for this new Wednesday Night Bible Study series! In a rapidly developing world of changing definitions it can be daunting for any student to navigate the tricky emotion of love. In this Bible series students will explore what the Bible has to say about love, redefining not just romance but the true love that we see exemplified perfectly in Jesus Christ.

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

Stay in the loop for all of the most important notifications! Text “”hopeyouth” to (856) 420-6078 to start receiving updates this week!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HOPEKIDS! HANGOUT: Sundays from 6:00-8:00p
Come to HopeKids! Hangout for games, snacks, and Bible study! We’re digging deep into the Bible with our new series, “The Heart of God.” Each week we will be reading different passages from Scripture on a quest to learn more about the character and nature of our Creator, and reinforcing those lessons with activities and games to go along with it. If you have a K-5th grader in your sphere of influence, draw them nearer to God by sending them to HopeKids! Hangout!

Each week we will be looking back at our Bible story from Sunday morning in a new way and doing fresh activities to reinforce our monthly theme. Plus, we’ll be storing God’s Word in our hearts by learning and practicing a new Bible verse every week—so you won’t want your kids to miss a single Wednesday!

The Nursery team is excited to love on your little ones (0-2), while our Preschool (3-5) team dives into an Alphabet Scripture Memory study! Every week they will learn a new Bible Verse, and each week they return with their verse memorized, they’ll earn a letter to attach to their Scripture Sash! Your kids will want to join us every Wednesday night to plant God’s Word in their hearts, earn all of their letters, have fun building a foundation of faith, and even have a chance to connect with our GoZone kids every week!
