Hope Notes 03/20/2024

March 20, 2024
Hello Hoper,
One of the things my grandson and I have gotten into the habit of doing when we get together is discussing the weather. I know it sounds funny to be talking about the daily forecast with a four-year-old, but it’s been interesting to see how the things we adults take for granted are brand new and interesting to his little mind. I also love seeing how he steps outside and declares, “it’s a beautiful day”, mimicking something I’ve been saying to him since he was tiny. (You just never know the things that are gonna stick with them!) Anyway, as he’s gotten a little older we’ve had many ‘scientific’ discussions about wind and clouds and rain and snow. Now add to that the explanation of the seasons and their subsequent temperatures etc. I’ve become quite the weather girl lol. I guess you’re probably wondering why I’m telling you all this, so let me get to the point.
On a recent cloudy day he was complaining that the sun was gone. When I told him it was still there and that it was just hiding behind the clouds his mind was blown. Here and there as the sun peeked through the clouds he could see for himself that it was true. This immediately brought to my mind the fact that the SON Is also always there. Even though we can’t see Him. And sometimes we can’t even feel Him.  But we never need to wonder if He is still with us. Jesus Himself said, “I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.”(Matthew 28:20) The times we feel like he has abandoned or forgotten us is when we walk by faith and remember the promise of Hebrews 13:5. ” ….God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So, whether you are looking for the sun or the Son, you can rest assured that they are both right where they belong, always and forever.
Your accidental weather gal ~ Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
Why People Do Weird Things (2 Cor. 4:1-6)

As a Christian, you actually have a different way of seeing the world. When you turn on the news or listen to the conversations around you in this world, it should seem weird to you.  Paul says they act this way because they don’t see… they have been blinded! Satan does not want people to see well enough that they turn to the hope found in Jesus. He wants to keep them in the dark. But God shines a light into the darkness. And His method is YOU. Let’s join with Paul in standing firm in our confidence as we let God’s grace give us power to be instruments of the light of the Good News about Jesus.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDIES: New classes start in April!
Join us at 6:30 for hot coffee and a sweet treat before heading into our studies at 7:00. We’ll have HopeKids programs for all ages, as well as a study for Hope Youth, and several adult classes rolling out over the coming weeks:

  • THE LIFE YOU LONG FOR: Led by Dana Ott beginning 4/3 This 4-week study teaches women how to fully step into the life you didn’t even realize you’ve been seeking. In our desire to please God, we often make the mistake of finding our worth in what we do instead of the identity we’ve been given – this series challenges us to live from the quiet center of God’s love rather than the busy treadmill we can easily find ourselves on. These are the lessons we worked through at our Women’s Retreat last October, so if you missed that or want a refresher, be sure to sign up so we can have a workbook prepared for you!
  • HIGH ANXIETY: Led by Pastor Ryan begins 4/3 If you are struggling with anxiety, there is help, but it takes work, time, courage, and patience. In this study, we will address the reality of anxiety as well as the tools that God gives us for conquering that anxiety. We’ll discuss how the enemy uses anxiety to keep us restrained, and how God equips us for the freedom that He promises. If that sounds like something you need to hear, join us for this study!

BAPTISM SERVICE: Tonight at 7:00!
You do not want to miss this special service. Come show your fellow Hopers support as they give public testimony about God’s work in their lives. You’ll be encouraged (and moved to tears!) when you hear the amazing, transformative stories that get shared. This service is powerful like no other, so make it a top priority in your week! HopeKids! programs will be available for infants through preschoolers!

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

ANNOUNCEMENTS

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE:
Join us for this special hour-long service on March 29th at 7:00. There will be scripture reading, song, and communion. It’s a powerful and moving time that will help prepare your heart for Easter. HopeKids! Programs will be available for infants through preschool.

EASTER SUNDAY: Share the news!
We’re gearing up for our biggest Sunday of the year! With that in mind, we are planning three identical services for Easter Sunday at 8:00, 9:30, & 11:00. We’ll have donuts & hot coffee, a photo opportunity, and HopeKids! Programs at all three services. Start inviting family & friends using our social media posts, or grab a flyer the next time you’re at church!

CHURCH EMAILS:
Communication is such an important value to us here at Hope, and our staff want to be available to connect with you! Since updating our website, we’ve been having some issues receiving emails, so we ask that you would please bear with us as we work out the kinks. In the meantime, if you have sent an email and haven’t heard back, please resend or touch base with that staff member in-person!

PRAYER FOR STAFF POSITIONS:
We want to ask our Hopers to continue to partner in prayer with us as we search for the right person to fill our Assistant Pastor role, as well as our Sound Engineer spot. We trust that God will bring along the exact right person at the exact right time for each job, and we thank you for coming alongside of us to pray for those positions!

CAKE, COFFEE, & CANDLES: Final in-person registration this Sunday!
Hey Ladies! You’re invited to a “Cake, Coffee, and Candles” event on Friday, April 19th at 7:00pm. Fellow Hoper, Lesley Russell, (whose company, “Simply Nestled” features 100% non-toxic soy candles) will be teaching us how to make a candle of our own! Plus we’ll have cake, cookies, and hot drinks to enjoy while we craft. The cost for this evening of fun is $20 and you’ll need to register using the form on this page by March 29th to save your seat. If paying by cash or check, make sure to put your name, make checks payable to Hope, and indicate “Candle Event” before placing in the offering bin. There will be an opportunity to register in-person this Sunday after each service. We want to include as many as possible, but space for this will be limited so that Lesley can plan for supplies and set up. Remember our Women’s Events are open to anyone post-high school and up – contact Dana Ott with any questions or for more information!

CURRENT SERIES: Owning Your Faith
In a contentious age of conflicting opinions and snappy arguments it can be difficult to know what you believe, but as you grow and enter adulthood it becomes more and more evident that, whether it is strong or not, your faith is your own, and no one else’s. In this series Hope Youth will look throughout the narrative of the Bible and see how God’s people have owned their faith throughout history and what exactly they had faith in. Through this teens will see and learn the power of ownership, in their work, relationships, and faith.

MOVIE MATINEE: April 3rd at Noon
We know finding activities on Spring break can be tough. With all that free time it seems a waste to use it staring at tiny screens all day. Why not gather together with your youth group friends and watch something on the big screen?! Join us for popcorn, candy, soda, and of course a movie on the big screen here at church! Admission is free and students can bring as many friends as they like! “What are we watching?”, I hear you ask. Well grab your teen and click the link below because that’s the question we’re asking you! We got four great PG films on offer and we need your help deciding what to show! Make your choice and we will see you on April 3rd: Hope Youth Movie Matinee Poll

LAUNCH EVENT:
Join Hope Youth from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, April 5th as we “Jump Into Spring” with our annual Launch Trampoline Event! Admission to the event is only $15, so bring a friend and invite them to the fun! HOPE KIDS
EASTER JAM 2024: This Saturday!
Easter Jam is an eggscellent event for all of our HopeKids! (infants through 5th grade!) WonderZone & GoZone kids (and their grown-ups) are invited to attend on March 23rd, from 10:00-noon to hear the good news of Easter, do an outdoor egg hunt, and enjoy a variety of other exciting Easter activities! Sign up each child here, and join us in celebrating the greatest event in history—Christ’s resurrection!

SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMS:
We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HOPEKIDS! HANGOUT: Sundays from 6:00-8:00p
Come to HopeKids! Hangout for games, snacks, and Bible study! We’re digging deep into the Bible with our new series, “The Heart of God.” Each week we will be reading different passages from Scripture on a quest to learn more about the character and nature of our Creator, and reinforcing those lessons with activities and games to go along with it. If you have a K-5th grader in your sphere of influence, draw them nearer to God by sending them to HopeKids! Hangout!

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS IN THE GOZONE:
Each week we will be looking back at our Bible story from Sunday morning in a new way and doing fresh activities to reinforce our monthly theme. Plus, we’ll be storing God’s Word in our hearts by learning and practicing a new Bible verse every week—so you won’t want your kids to miss a single Wednesday!

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS IN THE WONDERZONE:
The Nursery team is excited to love on your little ones (0-2), while our Preschool (3-5) team dives into an Alphabet Scripture Memory study! Every week they will learn a new Bible Verse, and each week they return with their verse memorized, they’ll earn a letter to attach to their Scripture Sash! Your kids will want to join us every Wednesday night to plant God’s Word in their hearts, earn all of their letters, have fun building a foundation of faith, and even have a chance to connect with our GoZone kids every week!
