Hope Notes 11/01/23

November 2, 2023
Hello Hoper,
My mom died back when I was thirty with no children to my name. Selling her house and disposing of a lifetime’s worth of things was overwhelming. I just wanted to be done with it and so, in my haste, I took what felt important to me, gave away all that could to her friends, and turned that page in my life.  Little did I know that a few years later I would have a daughter and wish for some of the things I had gotten rid of.  Thankfully my dear friend had the foresight to squirrel away some of those very items, knowing that one day I would be longing for them.  (Having a child just changes everything, doesn’t it?)  You might look at any of these things and simply see a tarnished bookend, a pretty pitcher, or a postcard with scratchy handwriting on it.  They wouldn’t hold the same value to you as they do to me.  It’s all because of who they belonged to.  Seeing some of these treasures being used or displayed in my now grown daughter’s house brings such joy to my soul.  She feels the weight of their importance as well; because of who they belonged to.
Do you realize that, as believers, we have value because of who WE belong to? “So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” (Romans 14:8)  We are created in the image of God. “God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)  That’s pretty amazing.  In addition, we have been bought with a price, a high price. ”For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.” (1 Peter 1:18-19 NLT)  Pastor Rick Warren said, “If you want to know how valued you are, just look at the cross. The cross proves your value.” Let these verses be a reminder that we are indeed valuable, not because of what we have or what we’ve accomplished or who we are, but because of Whose we are!
My worth is found in Christ alone…..LoisSPIRITUAL CARE

Who Has Our Attention? | Communion
(Prov. 4:20-23; 1:20-26; 2:1-6; 4:5-7; Ps. 119:105; 2 Tim. 3:16)

In a world that loves attention, we should know who is worth ours. We have a limited amount of time, attention, and energy to give. Are we making choices about where to spend these precious resources like the world does? Those without Jesus tend to turn towards those with fame or money or personality. Christians – even in churches – can often do the same. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts. Part of embracing this command is to recognize that we can’t give our attention carelessly or go with the flow of our culture on whose opinion matters. Basically, the entire book of Proverbs deals with who should have our ear, so let’s start there and recognize how we should be different from our world.WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDIES:
Join us at 6:30 for coffee & fellowship before heading into our classes at 7:00pm. There are programs for kids, teens, and adults.

  • “You Might Be A Pharisee If…” led by Dwight Lein: A Biblical look at biases and traditions in the local church and in each of us.
  • “Find Rest” led by Damon Briggs: Are you a tired Christian? Does your life seem like one endless rush after another? Jesus invited us to come to Him to find rest.  How can we do that when there’s so much to do?  In this study, we’ll explore together the Scriptures that teach us how we can step into the kind of rest we need.
  • “Leading at Hope” led by Pastor Mark: A discussion of some of our basic approaches to leadership for anyone who is serving in a leading role, or who wants to learn more about Biblical approaches to leadership.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Thanks to all who took home our 190 shoeboxes! If you haven’t picked up your shoebox yet it’s not too late, we have 10 boxes left! Here’s how to make this easy & fun: CHOOSE a boy or girl and the age category. FILL WITH a quality ‘wow’ item, then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. PRAY for the child who will receive your gifts; you can include a personal note & photo. If you’d like, you can donate your $10 per box shipping online and receive a tracking label to discover the destination of your shoebox. Also a little reminder please do not tape the boxes shut. We have rubber bands at the back table where the boxes are being returned too. Boxes are due back Sunday, November 12th.WOMEN OF HOPE: November 6th

You can be a part of providing over 100 families with a Thanksgiving meal. To find out how you can help, click here.

Our pantry shelves are looking a little bare! Help us stock them full before we head into the holiday season. We are currently looking for: cereal, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter and jelly. All donations can be placed in the kitchen.

BAPTISM SERVICE: November 15th at 7:00
Baptism is an important symbolic opportunity to declare your testimony, and decision to follow Christ, in front of the church body! We’d love you to participate if this is something you’ve yet to do in your journey of faith. To participate, you’ll need to attend two classes – each will be held after the second service on Sundays Nov 5th & 12th. Sign-up at the front of the auditorium now! Any questions can be directed to Pastor Mark.

What’s better than a hot coffee, warm cup of cocoa, holiday treats, and live music? We can’t think of a better way to finish out the month of giving thanks and gear up toward the season of celebration! Come on out and enjoy our first ever “Coffee House” right here at Hope on Wednesday, November 29th at 7:00 – 8:00pm. The evening will be filled with the sounds of the season – select live performances by some of the musicians here at Hope – and refreshments for the whole family. There is no childcare provided, but the nurseries will be open for anyone who needs to use them.

SUNDAY NIGHT SERIES: How To Read The Bible for Dummies
How do you even use the Bible? It’s big, it looks weird, and it’s written by folks who are long dead and lived far away. How can this be useful in your day to day life, let alone the guiding light? These and many other questions are precisely what our new series seeks to address! By learning reading techniques, basics of interpretation, and helpful habits the Bible will go from a dusty book on your shelf to a vital part of your daily life.

Dress up and pig out with us for this special Youth Group as we celebrate Thanksgiving with our fancy dress night! Don your Sunday best and compete for prizes in fun fall games! Dinner starts at 6pm so don’t be late! We’ll also be diving into the theme of gratefulness as we enter the season of thanksgiving. Bring a friend, and don’t miss out!

We’re diving deep into the Word on Wednesday Nights! Join us for some fun and some focus as we crack open the book of Psalms and see what awesome truths we can learn! Taking it one chapter at a time, we’ll learn about these ancient poems and see just how they speak to us today! It’s also a great opportunity to group with friends, pray for each other, and grow closer to God. Hope to see you there!

30 HOUR FAMINE: November 11th-12th
Every 30 hours roughly 7,000 kids will die of starvation. We don’t think that’s right, so Hope Youth is raising awareness and money to better serve and feed families around the world. We’re doing this through 30 Hour Famine with World Vision, and organization committed to feeding communities as well as providing them with the education and equipment to feed themselves in the future. A simple donation of $40 can feed a child for a whole month and you wouldn’t believe what more can do. Join us in raising money to fight hunger by donating on our World Vision event page here. If your student is interested in taking part in this service opportunity they can join us through the link above, and in-person from 6:00pm on Friday, November 10th to 2:00pm on Saturday, November 11th.

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

This year, we are hosting our very first Jingle Jam event for our WonderZone children and their families on Saturday, Dec. 2nd from 10:30am-Noon!  We’ll build gingerbread houses, make ornament crafts, hear the Christmas story, and even take pictures with Santa!!  Sign your preschooler up today!  Contact Kara May for more information at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org.

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HopeKids! Hangout is back for all kids in K-5th grades, and we’re starting a new series called Jesus Lives, Follow Him Boldly. This fall we will be talking about why we put our faith in a LIVING savior, and what living out that faith means for anyone who believes, no matter how young or old. Join us for those conversations + exciting games, fun activities, and, of course, snacks! Hope to see you there from 6:00-8:00!

None of our HopeKids! will want to miss our Wednesday night programs this Fall! We’ll be digging into Bible stories about harmony and integrity, looking at different verses of the Bible each week, and pairing our elementary and pre-K kids together to enrich the experience through crafts, games, and partnership. You don’t want your kids to miss out on these fun-filled nights; engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
