Hope Notes 09/27/2023

September 27, 2023

Hello Hoper,
“Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful….” (Joel 2:23)  God certainly sent us those autumn rains this weekend via tropical storm Ophelia! I am seeing the undeniable signs that fall is on her way.  It kind of makes me want to latch onto summer’s hem and stop her from leaving.  I’ve always been a little hesitant or sad to let things slip away. In this case it’s something as simple as a season but more often it’s a relationship, an expectation, a particular phase of life or a dream. I’ve had to let go of all of these, sometimes kicking and screaming. But letting go means making room for what God has in store for me next.  “As the scripture says, “What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)  God always replaces what I gave up with something better.  He is our God who does “more than we could ask or imagine”.  (Ephesians 3:20)
There is no point in holding onto things beyond their expiration date simply for our own perceived peace and security. As believers we need to remember that true peace and security only comes from God. ”The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.” (Psalm 29:11) Just like summer intrinsically needs to slip away into autumn, so shall I do my best to peacefully let go of things in order for me to keep moving forward into the ebb and flow of the life that God has ordained for me.
Trusting Him…Lois

Reconciliation and Forgiveness | Communion
(Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:12-13; Matt. 18:15-22; Luke 11:2-4)

“Don’t get mad…. Get even.” It’s such a simple saying that gives focus and direction when you’ve been hurt. The betrayal or pain makes you feel powerless, and the thought of revenge reverses that. Instead, your pain makes you strong. That all makes sense in human terms and it is the way many of us want life to work.  But for those who follow Jesus, there is a very different way. We are called to forgive. What does that mean and how do we do it? Today, we’ll look at some of the most famous places in Scripture where our call to forgive is spelled out and see what we can learn.

Join us Wednesday nights this fall at 6:30 for coffee & fellowship before heading into our classes at 7:00pm. There are programs for kids, teens, and adults (see descriptions below)! You don’t want to miss this midweek spiritual pick-me-up!

  • “Hedonists for Heaven” led by Pastor Dan
  • “Faith, Identity & Hope in a Fallen World” led by Pastor Ryan
  • “What Does The Bible Say About the Future?” led by Pastor Mark

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

HOPE HARVEST: Sign-up to help!
We’re so excited to share that we have an amazing fall event planned for Saturday, October 21st from 3:00-6:00pm. Hope Harvest will be open to the public (and all Hopers, of course) for fall family fun! We still need plenty of hands to man our activity booths and help serve food in our food booths. Each booth has a team lead who make sure you know exactly what to do! All we need is for you to show up! Help make Hope Harvest happen – stop by the back of the auditorium to sign-up on Sunday!

Every Sunday morning our HopeKids classrooms are run by amazing volunteers who partner with us to lead the children at Hope to God, and we’d like YOU to have the opportunity to join that epic mission!  We are looking for new volunteers for all of our classes, especially small group leaders for the GoZone and teachers/helpers for the Toddlers class. If you’d like to be a part of this awesome, critical, and fun ministry, join the team today!

It’s not too late to join us! Even if you can’t stay overnight, you can still join us for the day on Friday, October 6th for our conference. Cost for a day pass is $50 and includes some meals. For all the details, and to register,

Join us at Young Adults as we continue our series on the Pursuit of Happiness. This week we will be discussing relationships and the importance of evaluating if they are healthy. We’re diving deep into the Word on Wednesday Nights! Join us for some fun and some focus as we crack open the book of Psalms and see what awesome truths we can learn! Taking it one chapter at a time, we’ll learn about these ancient poems and see just how they speak to us today! It’s also a great opportunity to group with friends, pray for each other, and grow closer to God. Hope to see you there!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS: Practice starts October 15th!
It’s never too early for Christmas here at Hope! Our GoZone and WonderZone classes will be starting up practices with their Christmas music on October 15th, so make sure your kids are there—on time and ready to sing! We’ll also be handing out a parent letter and CD to make sure you have all the information you need about the programs!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HopeKids! Hangout is back for all kids in K-5th grades, and we’re starting a new series called Jesus Lives, Follow Him Boldly. This fall we will be talking about why we put our faith in a LIVING savior, and what living out that faith means for anyone who believes, no matter how young or old. Join us for those conversations + exciting games, fun activities, and, of course, snacks! Hope to see you there from 6:00-8:00!

None of our HopeKids! will want to miss our Wednesday night programs this Fall! We’ll be digging into Bible stories about harmony and integrity, looking at different verses of the Bible each week, and pairing our elementary and pre-K kids together to enrich the experience through crafts, games, and partnership. You don’t want your kids to miss out on these fun-filled nights; engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
