Hope Notes 09/20/2023

September 20, 2023

Hello Hoper,
Boston Terriers are a breed that are often called Velcro dogs.  Not because they are scratchy like Velcro, but because they stick to you like Velcro! This was certainly the case for our pup Olive.  She never liked to be very far from us, preferably in a lap if at all possible.  Go outside with her and she would stay right by your side.  We never had to worry that she would run off. (Well….in full disclosure, she was also a very skittish pup!) She wanted to be where she could see and hear you; I suppose it made her feel safe.
That’s how it should be with us and the Lord; our desire should be to stay close to Him.  His is the voice we should be wanting to follow. “But the one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10:2-4) We can learn to recognize His voice mostly through prayer and Scripture reading.  Then we can follow where He leads!  There is no safer place to be than by our heavenly Father’s side. “But as for me, how wonderful to be near God, to find protection with the Sovereign LORD and to proclaim all that he has done!” (Psalm 73:28 GNT)
Sticking to Him like Velcro…Lois

Defining Ourselves
(Ps. 100:3; Gen. 1:27; 1 Thess. 4:3-8; Col. 3:5-7; Prov. 5:20-21)

The world we live in has firmly adopted the idea that each of us get to decide fundamental truths about our lives. This has been seen most prominently in the discussions of gender and sexual orientation. It is understandable that people who do not worship the Lord will chase whatever they define as a path to happiness and satisfaction. But how do Christians face these issues? Again, we are in this world but not of it.  We walk by faith instead of sight or understanding. What do we see in Scripture that can help us sort out what we do with internal struggles over gender identity or sexual attraction? Let’s take a look at some passages that have direction for Jesus followers.

Join us Wednesday nights this fall at 6:30 for coffee & fellowship before heading into our classes at 7:00pm. There will be programs for kids, teens, and adults (see descriptions below)! You don’t want to miss this midweek spiritual pick-me-up!

  • “Faith, Identity & Hope in a Fallen World” led by Pastor Ryan
  • “What Does The Bible Say About the Future?” led by Pastor Mark

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

OCEAN CITY WEEKEND: September 22nd-24th
Our favorite retreat of the year is right around the corner! This is sure to be an awesome weekend of fun, fellowship, and encountering Jesus as we dive into the new school year. Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HopeKids! Hangout is back for all kids in K-5th grades, and we’re starting a new series called Jesus Lives, Follow Him Boldly. This fall we will be talking about why we put our faith in a LIVING savior, and what living out that faith means for anyone who believes, no matter how young or old. Join us for those conversations + exciting games, fun activities, and, of course, snacks! Hope to see you there from 6:00-8:00!

None of our HopeKids! will want to miss our Wednesday night programs this Fall! We’ll be digging into Bible stories about harmony and integrity, looking at different verses of the Bible each week, and pairing our elementary and pre-K kids together to enrich the experience through crafts, games, and partnership. You don’t want your kids to miss out on these fun-filled nights; engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
