Hope Notes 09/13/2023

September 13, 2023

Hello Hoper,
Has God turned you down for something lately?  Or maybe He just isn’t answering you in the time frame you would like.  Take heart – not only can you be assured that God does hear and answer our prayers, you can know for certain that how and when He answers will always be in our best interest.  His rejection is our protection and our direction. Every roadblock, every ‘unanswered prayer’, and every setback are for our own good.  If we are casting our cares on Him (1 Peter 5:7) and listening for His voice, we will know that He is working behind the scenes and laying out a plan for us.  Sometimes it’s hard to wait and we scurry ahead of our Lord.  We try and manipulate circumstances to our favor, or frantically attempt to work things out to achieve the outcome we desire.  We don’t wait to see what God has for us.Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous.” (Psalm 27:14)  Or sometimes we grow weary and give up when His blessing is just around the corner. When we get impatient or feel like giving up remember this – “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you.”  (2 Peter 3:9)  We should also tuck these words from Scripture into our hearts when we are doubting God’s intention for our lives – “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)  Soaking in Scriptures like these will help us remember that ‘some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers’ (Garth Brooks).
Trusting His Timing…..Lois

The Battle Belongs to the Lord
(Ex. 14:13-14; 1 Thess. 5:23-24; Phil 1:6; Eph. 6:10-13; 2 Cor. 10:1-5)

Do you know someone who has control issues? It is human nature to want to shape our lives according to our desires. But as we fight for what we want or need, are we following the example of the lost world around us? We’re going to look at how Christians fight differently in the battles we face. First and foremost, we have to learn what it means to let the Lord fight our battles. From the story of Israel trapped at the Red Sea to the writings of Paul to different churches, we’ll try to get some traction on how knowing Jesus changes how we fight our battles.

Join us Wednesday nights this fall at 6:30 for coffee & fellowship before heading into our classes at 7:00pm. There will be programs for kids, teens, and adults (see descriptions below)! You don’t want to miss this midweek spiritual pick-me-up!

  • “Hedonists for Heaven” led by Pastor Dan
  • “Faith, Identity & Hope in a Fallen World” led by Pastor Ryan
  • “What Does The Bible Say About the Future?” led by Pastor Mark

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

For the month of August, we averaged $8597 per week bringing our annual average to $10,328.  This dip in the last month of summer is below our target of $9655, but our overall average remains above it. We are filled with excitement as we step into the fall months, believing that the Lord will continue to work in power at Hope. Let’s make this fall a launching point for what’s coming by getting that weekly average back to (or beyond) where we’ve been through most of the year. Please give as the Lord directs – faithfully, sacrificially, and joyfully (2 Cor. 9).

This past Sunday we announced that God is calling Pastor Dave out of Hope and on to his next adventure. We are so grateful for the 12 faithful years that the Hallahan family has been a part of our ministry, and we are excited to see all that God has planned for them and Hope moving forward. Please partner with us in praying for Dave, Leah, Riley, Logan, and Norah, and help their family during this transition however you feel led. Also be in prayer for our church as we seek direction on filling our assistant pastor role. To hear Pastor Dave & Pastor Mark’s full announcements, watch Sunday’s message here

We’ll be collecting items for GWCM for the month of September! Bring throw blankets, women’s socks, and women’s gloves to donate in the collection bins at either entrance of the church. For any questions, contact Stacy Reid (sreid0905@gmail.com).

All moms of preschoolers (0-5) are invited to join us for our kickoff brunch on September 14th from 10:30-noon. We’ll have food and fellowship, as well as some games and giveaways! As always, childcare will be provided. Plus we’re giving out a free copy of our new study, “Risen Motherhood,” to the first 10 moms who arrive! We’re also excited to announce that we will now be meeting twice per month – the second and fourth Thursdays! Be sure to join our Facebook Group so you can RSVP and stay up to date with the latest. Contact Kara May (karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org) or Emily DiLorenzo (emily@hopechristianfellowship.org) with any questions!

Every Sunday morning in the GoZone our elementary aged friends are engaging meaningfully with God and the Bible through worship music, memory verses, and Bible story videos. These things all come alive for our HopeKids on the projector screen—because of our awesome GoZone Audio/Visual Team! If you’d like to be a part of this awesome, critical, and easy-to-learn ministry, join the team today!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

HopeKids! Hangout is back for all kids in K-5th grades, and we’re starting a new series called Jesus Lives, Follow Him Boldly. This fall we will be talking about why we put our faith in a LIVING savior, and what living out that faith means for anyone who believes, no matter how young or old. Join us for those conversations + exciting games, fun activities, and, of course, snacks! Hope to see you there from 6:00-8:00!

None of our HopeKids! will want to miss our Wednesday night programs this Fall! We’ll be digging into Bible stories about harmony and integrity, looking at different verses of the Bible each week, and pairing our elementary and pre-K kids together to enrich the experience through crafts, games, and partnership. You don’t want your kids to miss out on these fun-filled nights; engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
