Hope Notes 09/06/2023

September 6, 2023

Hello Hoper,
What a blessing it was to have Pastor Mark and Dana back among us, teaching and leading as only they can! Somehow it immediately felt as though they’d never been away.  I guess that’s how it is sometimes with people you love; they just hop right back into action and into your hearts! I know we all have sorely missed them, and are thankful that they were able to have had this time of rest and restoration.  Their absence did allow me to experience some things that I’ve only read about in Scripture.  I’m sure you’ve heard how the ‘church’ is not a building, but is made up of the people within its walls.  Well, I got to see that firsthand with our Hopers.  One of the first points that was driven home is found in Matthew 18:20.  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Mark always says that he is not the focus; that God simply speaks through him. We were blessed to receive biblically focused messages that God gave to our pastors, Dan and Ryan, as well as guest speaker Jim. I was so happy to see that the auditorium continued to be filled, even with it being prime time for vacations.  The people of Hope followed the instructions in Hebrews 10:24 (NLT): “….let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another….”.  We continued to have dynamic worship which filled our hearts with the hope and joy of our Lord.  The praises of His people definitely filled the temple!  Staff and volunteers kept our ministries running smoothly.  Nothing went by the wayside. I was so happy to see everyone step up and have Hope continue to be what Mark always says it is, “GOD’S church, not his”. All brick and mortar churches are made up of His presence and His people. “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.” (1Corinthians 3:9)  May we continue to be those who strengthen the Church because, as a whole, we are being transformed into a spiritual temple for God’s greater glory.
I love my church!
Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
Comparison Trap (2 Cor 10:7, 12; 2 Cor 4:16-18; 1 Cor 4:3-5)
On a typical day, how many times do you see images of people and their lives that invite you to compare your life with theirs? This has always been ‘a thing’ but today’s technology world certainly magnifies the opportunity for each of us. Our culture is grounded in comparison as a way to measure our worth, our accomplishments, and our attractiveness to others. But Christians live differently. We don’t allow our self-image to be swallowed by this trap. Instead, we see ourselves and our world differently.  Let’s take a walk through some of the things Paul says to the Corinthians and see what the Spirit will do in our hearts.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDIES: Starts Tonight!
We’re having a pizza party and ice cream sundaes for the whole family at a special time of 6:00! Moving forward, we’ll meet at 6:30 for fellowship & coffee before heading into our classes at 7:00. There will be programs for kids, teens, and adults (see descriptions below)!

  • “Hedonists for Heaven” led by Pastor Dan: Life is full of weight, be it tragedy or the daily grind, and at the end of the day all we want is a break. The hedonist believes that the break is the thing, that seeking joy and pleasure is not only the goal, but the meaning of life. What if I told you that, as Christians, that should be our goal too? The only difference between a Christian and a hedonist in fact is that we know where real pleasure is found, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
  • “Faith, Identity & Hope in a Fallen World” led by Pastor Ryan: Can we be confident in God and the Bible? Where should we find our sense of self, our value, and our purpose? How can we hold onto hope when things around us feel so hopeless? We’ll tackle those questions together as we look at what the biblical narrative has to say about faith, identity and hope in a fallen world.
  • “What Does The Bible Say About the Future?” led by Pastor Mark: If you’ve heard of ‘the Rapture’, the ‘Tribulation’, or any of the other Biblical concepts, we’ll see where these ideas come from and look at the debate around them. It won’t be a “have it all figured out” class. But it will help you know both how to study your Bible and the overarching ideas that Christians have about End Times Prophecies.

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Contact Kara May (karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org) if you’re interested!
