Hope Notes 08/02/2023

August 2, 2023

Hello Hoper,
This past Sunday at Hope we had the privilege of listening to our youngest Hopers singing about shining our lights for Jesus and sharing the messages they had learned during VBS week.  I say privilege because it is just that.  Being there on the ground floor of the seeds of faith being planted in their little hearts and watching it grow over the years is a humbling experience.  They radiate the joy of Jesus in a way that most adults do not.  They are so open to receiving Him and accepting the call to shine His light and His love to our world.  Oh, that we would become more like them! Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven belonged to the children. He knew there was something very special about their faith. “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” (Mark 10:15)  He knew that their faith was strong, because their hearts had not yet been damaged by a fallen world. The gift that young people most beautifully bring to the table is that they have a view of Him that is open and receptive.  They are wide-eyed and trusting, interested in what God tells them. This is exactly how Jesus wants our hearts to be. Open to following His plans for our lives, and receptive to His presence and unending love. Trusting in Him and His plans for us. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight”. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Living this way ensures not only that we remain young at heart, but that our hearts remain receptive vessels for Jesus.
He is the Light of the world ~ Lois

Training for Our Calling | A Word from Jim Jefferson
(Joshua 1:1-9, Romans 12:1-2)

How do we best prepare for the road ahead? Life is so full of twists and turns, ups and downs, highs and lows, it’s hard not to allow circumstances get us off track. As we gather together, let us look together to best prepare to walk in the road where God has called us.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

A reminder to our Hopers that Pastor Mark & Dana will be away on a well-deserved sabbatical for month of August. Please join us in praying that they have a restorative and restful time away! In the meantime, you may contact elders Mike Hartwell (mhredeemed@gmail.com) and Damon Briggs (dbriggs@mandnco.com), or Communications Director Emily DiLorenzo (emily@hopechristianfellowship.org), with any church-related questions or matters. They will be happy to address your inquiries, or will get you in touch with the best person who can!

During the month of July we collected school supplies for the children of Kids Alley. Stacy Reid, on behalf of the entire KA team, extends their biggest thanks as we went above and beyond in meeting this need! She shares, “Hope continues to show up. They give from their hearts for people they may never meet. Selfishly I love that my kids get to see that first hand how amazing our church is and what can happen when people come together for a cause.” Thank you, Hopers, for supporting this mission!

Kids Alley is looking to fill a part-time lead staff position in their after school care program. This high-energy, enthusiastic person will assist with homework, provide educational enrichment activities, oversee recreation time, and share Bible devotions at the end of each day. This is great experience for someone pursuing their degree in education, a retired teacher, or someone with the gift of teaching and a heart for children. The hours are 2:00-6:00pm during the school year, with a pay of $15-$16 an hour. If interested, email your resume to admin@kidsalley.org.
