Hope Notes 07/26/2023

July 26, 2023

Hello Hoper,
How many times have we heard our children say, ‘Are we there yet?’ when we’ve barely begun a long car journey? As believers, we’re on a long journey too.  It’s our journey of faith.  However, unlike a car journey, we never actually ‘arrive’ at our destination on this side of eternity.  Colossians 3:1-2 (GNT) tells us to be heavenly minded, focused on our eternal home: “You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God. Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth.”  Like any journey, the road ahead is difficult to predict.  For sure there will be some bumps and some detours that take us places we never wanted to go.  But if we can keep in mind our eternal destination, we can navigate these diversions with a sense of purpose and hope for the future. “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”(Hebrews 13:14 NLT) We can also count on coming across some wondrous views and heart stopping joy along the way.  All of this makes our sojourn here on earth the most difficult yet rewarding thing we do.  Let our journeys of faith reflect ongoing dependence on God, giving praise for His abundant love and thankfulness for His steadfast presence in our sorrow.

Awaiting our final destination ~ Lois

Light In The Darkness | VBS Closing
(John 8:12; Matthew 5:14-16; Luke 11:33-36)

Light is one of the most common metaphors used of Jesus and his followers. At Stellar VBS, our students heard all about the Light of the World and were encouraged to shine Jesus’ light for all to see. What are the characteristics of light and how do we embody them? Today we’ll take a look at a few passages where Jesus talks about light and see how we can be a light in the darkness.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

VBS: Help us “un-decorate!”
VBS is of to a GREAT start and we are sure to have an “out of this world” rest of the week! We could use all hands on deck Sunday after the second service to help take down all our stellar decorations! Stay as long as you can, leave when you need! We’ll see you back at the church picnic at 3:00!

We’ll be closing out VBS week with a bang by gathering together as a church family for our annual picnic on July 30th at 3:00! We’ll have, games, waterslides and more – plus dinner at 5:00 for the whole family! You don’t want to miss out on participating in this amazing tradition at Hope!

A reminder to our Hopers that Pastor Mark & Dana will be away on a well-deserved sabbatical for month of August. Please join us in praying that they have a restorative and restful time away! In the meantime, you may contact elders Mike Hartwell (mhredeemed@gmail.com) and Damon Briggs (dbriggs@mandnco.com), or Communications Director Emily DiLorenzo (emily@hopechristianfellowship.org), with any church-related questions or matters. They will be happy to address your inquiries, or will get you in touch with the best person who can!
