Hope Notes 07/12/2023

July 12, 2023

Hello Hoper,
I usually try and write these openings on Saturdays.  Then sometimes I go to church Sunday morning and find that Pastor Mark has somehow been reading my draft and crafted a message along similar lines! I’m joking of course, but that’s how I know God really wants me to receive a particular concept!  So here is the latest thing God is driving home for me – Rely on God, not myself or my plans.
There are often things we truly need to prepare for; however we shouldn’t be relying solely on our preparation but on God. “In his heart a man plans (prepares) his course, but the LORD determines his steps.” (Proverbs 16:1) Almost every morning I ask God to be in charge of my day and that often means letting go of my plans and preparations. I’ll have everything all laid out in what seems to be to be a logical order and then God steps in and shakes it all up. He will add things to my day or make certain things impossible to achieve.  I have to remind myself that He is simply doing what I asked! I’m not gonna lie; it’s hard for me.  I might wonder if He will equip me with what I need in order to do what He’s thrown my way. Time, patience, provisions.  I may feel like I need to wait until I have fully prepared.  In reality I’m sure His desire is that I simply obey without question like He asked the disciples to do in Matthew 10.  But the truth is, the thought of venturing into Jesus’ call and trusting Him to provide as we do feels……..dangerous.  It goes against our penchant for planning and our desire to control.  We need to be able to step out in faith even when we feel unprepared. We can plan all we want, but ultimately God’s purpose should trump all our plans. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” (Proverbs 19:21)
Learning to rely on Him…..Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
Relationships | Communion
(2 Cor 1:12-14)

Relationship advice is everywhere. It seems like people have opinions on what you should be doing in your friendships, your marriage, your parenting, and every other relationship in your life. Maybe you’d trust some of them more if their relationships looked healthy, but there does not seem to be a correlation between competence and the sharing of opinions.  Paul talks about his relationships with the people in the church at Corinth.  This is not an exhaustive discussion of Christian relationships, but it does include some pretty significant guideposts.  These same ideas have life for our relationships today!

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).
