Hope Notes 06/28/2023

June 28, 2023

Hello Hoper,
I know I’ve said it time and time again, but I’m so thankful for our worship team and all the sacrifices they make in order to serve us.  I am always blessed by our time of worship on Sunday mornings.  It’s the perfect segue needed to bring us into the frame of mind and condition of the heart to hear what God has to say. According to Donald Shockley, the word sing appears in the scriptures over 400 times and there are over 50 commands. It must be important if it’s mentioned that many times! “Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” (Psalm 95:6)  Seems to me, when we truly worship, we are humbled.  Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout to the Rock of our salvation!” (Psalm 95:1)  Worship brings joy, which we can reflect back to God. “Sing to the Lord with grateful praise…” (Psalm 147:7) Worship is a good way to show our thankfulness to our heavenly Father.  I could go on, but I’m sure you get what I mean!
Another thing I’ve been thinking about is the difference between singing worship songs about God verses singing worship songs to God.  Try thinking about that when you’re looking at the words of the songs. When you sing those words to Him, it suddenly becomes more personal, more like a prayer. Sometimes I even change the words so that I’m addressing Him directly rather than singing about Him. Before you start muttering about how I’m some sort of crazy word changer, give it a try yourself. I am confident that you will have a more personal worship experience along with the humility, joy, and thankfulness it brings.
Sing praise to His name……Lois

Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:1-7)

We all like to be comfortable and try to avoid uncomfortable situations. This can be as normal and small as being socially uncomfortable for a few moments or as large as a major trial or loss that unsettles your whole life. Our minds fixate on what we think will be easy and enjoyable because we think there is too much to lose in discomfort. However, Paul opens the book of 2 Corinthians by talking about how comfort and suffering are connected for believers. Maybe you’ve never thought of it this way, so let’s take a look at Paul’s promise of God’s comfort that actually is brought through suffering.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

NIGHT OF WORSHIP: Tonight at 7:00

There will be HopeKids! programs available for nursery and pre-school children and we’ll even have the coffee on – you don’t want to miss this night of worship, praise, and prayer!

Hey ladies! Summer is almost here and what’s more fun than a pool-side picnic lunch with friends? We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, July 8th from 11:00am – 2:00pm for our “Sip ‘n Dip Ladies Event” at the Baumiester’s home (750 Fairview Ave. Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097). There are two sign up sheets in the front lobby – one is to let us know that you can attend and the other is if you’d like to bring a side dish or dessert to share! We’ll supply the sandwiches and cold drinks, so we’ll need a headcount for set up and supplies. Remember your bathing suit and towel if you’d like to swim! This is an event for all women post high school and up – hope to see you there! (Contact Dana at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org for more info.)
