Hope Notes 5/31/2023

May 31, 2023

Hello Hoper,

Now that the flurry of King Charles’ coronation is over, I’d like to toss out a few thoughts on how different it was for the King of ALL kings; no disrespect to King Charles!
King Charles was crowned with pomp and circumstance. A crown of jewels weighing five pounds was placed on his head, and a gilded robe was placed on his shoulders. Jesus, the King of ALL kings, received a crown, not made of jewels, but made of thorns. He was mocked, spit on, and beaten. “….and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.” (Matthew 27:29)
When King Charles’ ceremony ended, he rode through the streets in a golden carriage before going to his residence in Buckingham Palace.  Jesus, the King of ALL kings, started His coronation by riding a donkey, not a carriage. You can read this in Matthew 21: 1-9. The prophecy referred to by Matthew recalls Zechariah 9:9 -“See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”  Jesus, the King of ALL kings, did not go to a palace. Instead, He was placed in a dark, empty tomb for three days. Then, Jesus, the King of ALL kings, rose from the grave before ascending to sit on His throne on the right hand of God. “The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies beneath your feet.” (Matthew 22:44 NLT)
Jesus, the King of ALL kings, will reign forever. There will be no other King after Him, no passing of the crown to another generation. He alone is King!
King of my heart…….Lois

Sanctified (John 17:13-19)
Plus: A Special Window Into HopeKids Ministry

As believers, we recognize that our kids have to grow up in a world that seems so much more lost than anything we experienced. This can cause us to want to double down on protecting them and even isolating them from the world around them. While there is an appropriate level of insulation for our kids, we also have to recognize that part of our job is teaching them how to interact with their world.  For the gospel to be advanced in their generation, they will have to both know Jesus and their culture. A word in Scripture that Jesus uses in this discussion is ‘sanctification.’ This concept has direct application to believers who are trying to figure out how to interact with this world and how to navigate it with our children. Let’s see what Jesus has to say in His prayer for His disciples on this topic.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

LEVEL UP: Wednesdays at 7:00 thru June 21st
We are focusing on taking your relationship with Jesus to the next level by offering programs for all ages built to strengthen your faith and deepen your spiritual knowledge.

It’s not too late to join these classes:

  • SURVEY OF THE GOSPELS: Led by Dwight Lein
  • THE SEARCH FOR SIGNIFICANCE: Led by Jess St. Petery
  • GRIEVING WITH HOPE: Led by Lorraine Otis

Here at Hope, God work through regular people like you. And when you faithfully and sacrificially serve, parts of your soul come alive – you actually grow spiritually! That’s because God made His people to build His kingdom together. God wants you, we need you, and you need to serve. That’s why for the month of June we’ll be focusing on all the ways you can get involved and volunteer to “Make Hope Happen!” Keep your eyes on social media and newsletters for more information over the coming weeks! You can also fill out a volunteer form here, or contact emily@hopechristianfellowship.org with questions!

VBS is back July 24-28th and we need YOU! We’re looking for a group of awesome volunteers who are ready to invest in the faith of our children! As a VBS volunteer, you can help us create a life-changing event with an eternal impact on every child that attends. We need prep night helpers, decorations team members, registration team members, snack team helpers, church decorators, and crew leaders! If you’re ready to serve in one or more of those areas fill our our VBS Volunteer Form now

All ladies post high school and up are invited to attend our women’s bible study! We meet on the 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at 6:30. Our next meeting we’ll be continuing our “Quest” series and discussing Elisha. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s prophetic power, and that’s exactly what he received. So how did that turn out? We’ll talk all about it on June 5th! As always, bring a Bible and a friend! Snacks and coffee provided.

Our WonderMoms are going on tour… a park tour, that is! If you have children in our WonderZone (0-PreK) join us this summer as we visit different parks with our kids. We’ll meet at 10:30 – noon the 2nd Thursday of each month for a playdate! Our first get together will be June 8th at Red Bank Battlefield – just 5 minutes from Hope! Any questions contact Kara May (karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org) or Emily DiLorenzo (emily@hopechristianfellowship.org) or join their Facebook Group here!

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00
The Young Adults ministry at Hope is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. Any questions, contact Pastor Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org

Many times people will say, “when I get to heaven I’m going to ask God ____.” These can range from the accusatory to curious. But we have a rich biblical tradition of bringing our questions, doubts, and concerns directly to God. So, let’s come with questions we still have unanswered. We’ll see if others have wrestled with these before and if our biblical tradition can point us closer toward an answer.

YOUTH GROUP: Sundays 6:00-8:00
Open to all teens 6th-12th grades! Contact Pastor Dan Lein with any questions: danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

Have fun and dive deep with us on Wednesday nights at 7:00 as Hope Youth explores the story of David through the books of 1st and 2nd Samuel. With more time dedicated to study, Wednesday nights will be a great opportunity to learn more about God’s word and grow together in communion and conversation. We hope to see you there!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

HOPEKIDS! FIELD DAY: June 4th 3:00-5:00
We’re so excited to kick off summer with a field day for our HopeKids! (WonderZone & GoZone ages!) and their families! We’ll have everything from bubbles for our babies to water balloons for our big kids. Join us for games, family fun, and dinner hot off the grill — you won’t want to miss! Sign up here today!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

We’re so excited to invest in our HopeKids! on Wednesday evenings, during our Level Up series, by providing classes for infants through 5th graders! Our elementary kids will be paired up with our preschoolers for a portion of the evening to work together on a craft, game, or activity. We can’t wait to see how God works in & through our elementary kids to serve, lead by example, and encourage our preschoolers! Your kids won’t want to miss out on these fun-filled Wednesday nights, engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
