Hope Notes 05/24/2023

May 24, 2023

Hello Hoper,
Listening to Pastor Mark’s message about how God turns ‘Shame into Glory’ got me thinking. How often do we hear or say the phrase, “To God be the glory”? But what exactly IS glory and how do we go about giving it to God? Dictionary.com defines it as ‘very great praise, honor, or credit’. Giving God the glory is a way to honor Him, to show our adoration, to give Him the credit for things in our lives. We can do easily do this in these ways (just to name a few).

  • WITH OUR WORDS. The way we speak should reflect a Christ-like attitude. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)
  • WITH OUR ACTIONS. You know the old saying, ‘actions speak louder than words’. Well it’s true! We should walk our talk. Words alone are empty. Acting in ways that are unpleasing to God is not glorifying Him.“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
  • WITH OUR BODIES. We know that our bodies are a gift from God, temples, vessels in which the Holy Spirit resides. Therefore, we should keep our bodies as pure as possible. Make sure they are healthy; able to serve and honor our Lord. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

So…to God be the glory! – Lois

Bringing Glory to Jesus (John 17:6-12)

On the best teams, the players are more interested in the team’s success than in their personal accomplishments. Sayings like “there is no ‘I’ in ‘team’” find traction over and over again because a team that is working selflessly together is a team that maximizes their abilities and strengths. Too often, Christians in churches miss this reality. They become more invested in what people think of them individually rather than what they think of our cause or (more importantly) our Savior. Jesus prays about His followers on this last night before He dies. And one of the most amazing points that He makes is that, somehow, broken and messy people are a part of how God brings glory to His Son. Isn’t that an incredible privilege? Maybe it’s so extraordinary that it’s kind of hard to believe. But what if we stepped into the opportunity for our lives to bring glory to Jesus? Could that change the world?

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

LEVEL UP: Wednesdays at 7:00
Wednesday nights through June 21st we are focusing on taking your relationship with Jesus to the next level by offering programs for all ages built to strengthen your faith and deepen your spiritual knowledge.

It’s not too late to join these new classes:

  • SURVEY OF THE GOSPELS: Led by Dwight Lein Have you ever wondered why we need four gospels? Couldn’t one have done it? We’ll take a look at the major points of each of the gospel accounts noting the important similarities and differences. While all 4 Gospels tell us about our savior, each Gospel has its own perspective of Christ: King, Servant, Son of Man, and Son of God. By the end of four weeks, you’ll have a better understanding of the contents of each gospel and what each one has to offer.
  • THE SEARCH FOR SIGNIFICANCE: Led by Jess St. Petery Learn how to freely enjoy Christ’s love while no longer basing your self-worth on your accomplishments or the opinions of others. Robert S. McGee’s book, The Search for Significance, shows readers how four false beliefs have kept them from the joy of abundant life in Christ. A workbook is included in the back of the book.

HOPEKIDS HANGOUT: Last meeting this Sunday!
All elementary kids are invited to join us in the GoZone on Sunday nights from 6PM-8PM for an extra dose of fun and Bible study. Just like on Sunday mornings, we gather together for games, Bible stories, and prayer—but with an extra hour there’s twice the excitement, bigger games, and more time to get to know each other!  Join us for our “Tell the World!” series about carrying the message of God’s love with you wherever you go!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

We’re so excited to invest in our HopeKids! on Wednesday evenings, during our Level Up series, by providing classes for infants through 5th graders! Our elementary kids will be paired up with our preschoolers for a portion of the evening to work together on a craft, game, or activity. We can’t wait to see how God works in & through our elementary kids to serve, lead by example, and encourage our preschoolers! Your kids won’t want to miss out on these fun-filled Wednesday nights, engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
