Hope Notes 04/26/2023

April 26, 2023

Hello Hoper,
I find it really hard to pray for myself.  I can pray for others with no problem, but when it comes to going before the Throne on my own behalf I struggle.  It might seem silly, but I sometimes feel like I don’t even know what I should be asking for!  Well then, you can imagine my delight when I came across this list of what to pray for yourself.  In a departure from my ‘normal’ opening, I’m sharing it with you all with the hope that it just might be a resource you’ve been looking for as well.  Here we go:

  1.  To know God’s will daily. “…asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God”Colossians 1:9-10
  2. To know the love of Jesus more deeply. “…then you will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ…” Ephesians 3:18-19
  3. For obedience to hear and apply what you learn from God’s Word. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22
  4. To have a mind of discernment.  “…that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best…” Philippians 1:9-10
  5. For a greater understanding of God’s power within you. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:10
  6. For ever increasing faith. “I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:24

Hoping this helps someone…….Lois

A Reliable Joy (John 16:16-24)

How much joy is in your life? You probably have a lot of reasons to be glad and full of gratitude, but that’s not the question. To what degree does your experience match up with a promise from Jesus of joy? On this night we’re studying, Jesus says some pretty surprising things about joy.  We probably make the same assumptions that the disciples did before this conversation. Joy comes when life is going well and sorrow comes when life is hard and painful. Yet on this night, Jesus takes time to tell them that following Him should be filled with joy as a norm. Even grief will be turned into joy. Is that idea still true?  Does following Jesus allow us to live as people full of joy?  Let’s see what Jesus says and allow Him to teach us what He was trying to teach His disciples that night.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Wednesday nights in 2023 we are focusing on taking your relationship with Jesus to the next level by offering programs for all ages built to strengthen your faith and deepen your spiritual knowledge. Here is our list of classes for adults:

  • PARENTING THROUGH THE PHASES: Led by Pastor Ryan & Kara You have approximately 936 weeks from the time your child is born until he or she moves on to what’s next. The time will fly by—and kids change and grow a lot throughout the process. Join us as we work through the Parenting Through the Phases small group study! We’ll discuss what phases kids go through, what they need the most in each phase, and equip you with four conversations you should have with your kid in the phase they’re in now.
  • GRIEVING WITH HOPE: Led by Lorraine Otis Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or any other number of circumstances that leave us feeling unstable, grief can drive us to a place where we’re not sure how we can go on. If you are currently, have been, or know someone in that stage now, this study will take you through the Psalms where you’ll lead you into the arms of our compassionate, healing God, who weeps with you, walks with you, and offers hope in the midst of pain.
  • YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN: Led by Pastor Dave We live in a world that tells us that we belong to ourselves and it is up to us to determine our identity and values. As Christians, we may know that this isn’t true or at least recognize that it sounds off, but the fact is we all are affected by it one way or another. Join us for this 4-week class as we explore our common notions of freedom and what it truly means to be free. (Participants are welcome to buy You Are Not Your Own: Belong to God in an Inhuman World by Alan Noble but it is not mandatory.)

ATTENTION PARTNERS: Voting this Sunday!
As we discussed at our annual business meeting last December, our Leadership Team is presenting a revised budget for 2023. The strength in our giving numbers from November through March (averaging over $11,000 per week) and our first quarter average giving for 2023 ($9850) have allowed us to adjust our budget. The main changes are cost of living increases for our staff that were skipped in December and the addition of some important projects for our ministry. Partners will vote by signed ballot at our services on April 30th. There will be no official business meeting for this change, but partners are welcome to pick up a budget sheet and discuss any questions with any of our elders. (Pastor Mark, Pastor Dave, Damon Briggs, Mike Hartwell, Ryan Winstel)

Are you new to Hope in 2023? Our staff and leadership team would love to welcome you! Come share a coffee and pastry with us on Sunday, April 30th in the GoZone 2 classroom between 9:45 – 10:45. This is “open house style” so stop in as you’re leaving the first service, or come early before the second service! We can’t wait to connect with you!

LET’S TACO ‘BOUT IT: Women’s Event
Let’s Taco ‘Bout a Party! We’re getting together on Friday, May 5th at 6:00pm to enjoy a taco bar with all the fixings and some girl talk with your friends and other Hope gals! This Sunday is the last chance to sign up in the front foyer and let us know you’ll be coming! If you’d like to bring a dessert to share, there’s a spot for that too! Our women’s events are open to all ladies post high school and up and you can contact Dana Ott with any questions (danaott@hopechristianfellowhip.org).

Men, join us for food and some friendly competition on Saturday, May 13th starting at 10:00am. Register here as an individual or a team: teams will be 3-5 people. We’ll have hot dogs & burgers after. Come early at 8:00am for a full breakfast!

Anyone who’s walked through our doors knows that one of the things that makes Hope special is how warm and welcoming our Sunday mornings are! A HUGE part of this is due to our Greeter Team! Be a part of the essential group that makes visitors and regulars alike feel welcomed each Sunday! We’d love to have you open our doors, hand out a Sunday Post, and offer a huge smile to all who enter. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, contact Emily DiLorenzo at emily@hopechristianfellowship.org

Bins will be located at the front and back of church for the entire month of May. We are collecting the following items: boxes of cereal, peanut butter, jelly, cans of soup, canned vegetables, tuna, canned chicken, spaghetti sauce, pasta, mac & cheese, canned or dried fruit. Any questions please reach out to the Missions Team, sreid0905@gmail.com.

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00
The Young Adults ministry at Hope is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. Any questions, contact Pastor Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org

We’ll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo a little early this year with a Taco Party followed by a conversation on how we can use our gifts, talents, and status to benefit “the least of these.”

YOUTH GROUP: Sundays 6:00-8:00
Open to all teens 6th-12th grades! Contact Pastor Dan Lein with any questions: danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

He’s one of the members of the Trinity, but how much do we really know about the Holy Spirit? While God the Father and Jesus are often discussed & taught about, we all too frequently leave the Holy Spirit on the sidelines. NOT THIS TIME! For our next series we are going to be exploring the Holy Spirit’s role throughout God’s story of redemption and into our daily lives. Our goal is to learn more about the Holy Spirit while simultaneously reviewing God’s story of redemption from Genesis to the present day. This Bible-centered series will be a great way for students to engage, grow in their Biblical literacy, and deepen their relationship with God. We hope that you will join us on our Holy Ghost Hunt and we can’t wait to see you there!

Have fun and dive deep with us on Wednesday nights at 7:00 as Hope Youth explores the story of David through the books of 1st and 2nd Samuel. With more time dedicated to study, Wednesday nights will be a great opportunity to learn more about God’s word and grow together in communion and conversation. We hope to see you there!

Join us on Saturday, May 20th as we team up with Seeds of Hope to serve breakfast to those experiencing food insecurity in the greater Camden Area. Teens will get a hands-on opportunity to serve others and experience the power of service. We will meet at church at 7am on Saturday, and from there, we will drive to the Volunteers of America on Atlantic Avenue to help Seeds of Hope serve! After, we will return to Hope for a time of fellowship where lunch will be provided! Serving others is an exciting and life changing opportunity, not just for those served but for those doing the serving. Click here to sign-up and we will see you there!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

All elementary kids are invited to join us in the GoZone on Sunday nights from 6PM-8PM for an extra dose of fun and Bible study. Just like on Sunday mornings, we gather together for games, Bible stories, and prayer—but with an extra hour there’s twice the excitement, bigger games, and more time to get to know each other!  Join us for our “Tell the World!” series about carrying the message of God’s love with you wherever you go!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

We’re so excited to invest in our HopeKids! on Wednesday evenings, during our Level Up series, by providing classes for infants through 5th graders! Our elementary kids will be paired up with our preschoolers for a portion of the evening to work together on a craft, game, or activity. We can’t wait to see how God works in & through our elementary kids to serve, lead by example, and encourage our preschoolers! Your kids won’t want to miss out on these fun-filled Wednesday nights, engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
