Hope Notes 01/18/2023

January 18, 2023

Hello Hoper,
At the risk of sounding like a crazy person, I’m going to share with you something I like to do.  During the winter, you might find me on the back porch early morning or late evening conducting what looks like howling at the sky.  What I’m actually doing is blowing out a big breath, watching to see the vaporous mist appear.  I don’t know why I like doing that, although it is kind of magical how the breath we exhale all day long without a thought can suddenly be seen! A couple of things come to mind as I’m outside busy breathing.
One is the fact that God is the one who gave me that breath.  Job 33:4 confirms, “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”  Even more astonishing to me is this verse: “For as long as life is in me, and the breath of God is in my nostrils…” (Job 27:3)  That blows me away but it makes sense if you think about it.  God breathed life into me, so as long as I have life, I have God’s breath in me!
The other thing I think about is this verse in James: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (Jas 4:14)  As I am physically looking at my little puff of air, it really hits home just exactly how fast that tiny bit of mist disappears.  Is that really what our life here on earth is?  We have nothing we can measure eternity with – nothing to compare it to.  It falls far beyond our comprehension. It makes me aware how small I am and how big God is.  Why do I even let the things or worries of this world bother me when they are so minuscule in light of eternity?  I guess that’s just the human part of me.  But it does give a good perspective on how things really are.  So……go on…….go outside and let a big breath loose into the air.  Watch and see how long before it is gone.  Then give thanks to our God who gave you that breath and who holds this world, AND eternity, in His hands!
Breathed Into Life  – Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
A New Command (John 13:31-38)
Today, almost everyone agrees that love is one of the highest values that exist in human experience. The devotion of a parent to their child, the affection of a husband for his wife, the enduring connection of a friend – these are just some of the many examples in the real world of how precious we hold love. But love did not have such an elevated status when Jesus walked the earth. In fact, as he speaks with his disciples on this night, he gives them a command that seems to be both overly simplistic and almost irrelevant. With what they are about to face in the next hours, a command to love one another seemed pointless. Yet later, when they actually understood this command and lived it out, it changed the world. What if the same power is available and at work in us today?  Could God change the world through believers loving one another as Jesus loves us?

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:40 in the GoZone!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Anyone can join us Sunday mornings at 8:30 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
Matthew 5:3-5
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”

HOPEKIDS! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
At Hope we’re committed to charting a course towards lifelong faith for our children, and we need YOUR help to do it! Right now we are looking for volunteers willing to serve in a HopeKids class 1 Wednesday a month, so that our volunteers are all able to both serve our kids AND attend Wednesday night classes. We are also experiencing awesome growth in our GoZone classes on Sunday mornings! So, we need more small group leaders to help facilitate that growth and continue to support our elementary kids with strong relationships and Christian role models. Please contact Pastor Ryan (ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org)  if you’re ready to invest in the next generation’s faith!

JOIN OUR SETUP TEAM:
The Facilities Team is looking for anyone interested in becoming a part of the Setup Team. This team sets up and takes down for events like our church picnic, baptism, ladies events, etc., and typically involves moving tables, chairs, and the like. If you’re looking for a way to serve that isn’t a long-term commitment, this is a great team for you! We just need a willing heart and a set of hands! Signup sheet is in the lobby, or email Mike Hartwell at

mhredeemed@gmail.com for more info.

DIRECTORY DAY: January 29th
Joining our online, private directory has never been easier! We’re setting up a Directory Day on Sunday, January 29th where you can register to join our directory – including having your photo taken! Our online directory is such an important tool in staying connected as a church body. To be included, simply swing by the coffee room after either service. Registering only takes a minute! You’re invited to a “Galentine’s” Day Tea! Saturday, February 11th from 10:30am – 12:30pm. Leave the boys at home and come kick it with the best gals around for a celebration of friendship and love! We hope you can join us for brunch (tea sandwiches and finger foods), coffee, tea, and of course, sweet treats. We’ve got some great games planned and even a fun craft that you can share with a friend – you don’t need to bring anything but yourself and your girl gang if you’d like! Look for the event on Facebook and remember to sign up in the front foyer today so we can get an accurate headcount – don’t miss out!  Contact Dana at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org for more information.

HOPE KIDS
HOPEKIDS HANGOUT:
All elementary kids are invited to join us in the GoZone on Sunday nights from

6PM-8PM for an extra dose of fun and Bible study. Just like on Sunday mornings, we gather together for games, Bible stories, and prayer—but with an extra hour there’s twice the excitement, bigger games, and more time to get to know each other! Our current series is a 12 week study on the New Testament.

SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMS:
We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background-checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS:
We’re so excited to invest in our HopeKids! on Wednesday evenings, during our Level Up series, by providing classes for infants through 5th graders! Our elementary kids will be paired up with our preschoolers for a portion of the evening to work together on a craft, game, or activity. We can’t wait to see how God works in & through our elementary kids to serve, lead by example, and encourage our preschoolers! Your kids won’t want to miss out on these fun-filled Wednesday nights, engaging their faith and learning more from God’s Word!
