Hope Notes 11/23/2022

November 23, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
Well friends, those of you who have been reading these Notes for many years will not be surprised by today’s opening.  It’s time for my “Let’s give Thanksgiving its time to shine” post.  Thanksgiving is that poor holiday which has the misfortune to be sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas – the two most lucrative holidays for the retail world.  It always gets lost in the shuffle. Our town has the Halloween parade marching down Main Street right underneath the Christmas decorations! Thanksgiving is completely forgotten in the rush to get to the next big thing – Christmas.  Why do we insist on rushing through things?  We often jump so far ahead that we miss what’s happening in the present (like Thanksgiving).
We are guilty of doing the same thing with God’s plans.  We get ahead of Him because we are impatient.  We ask, “WHY isn’t He fixing things or doing things or showing me things?”  But we must remember that He is always at work in our lives.  It’s just that sometimes there are things He needs to have us work on before we get to what we consider the ‘answer’.  The waiting process is a vital part of growing our faith. God knows I’m not ‘ready’ for certain things yet, even though I may think I am! “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him.” (Lamentations 3:25) Is there something you are waiting on? Instead of trying to rush ahead, be still in His presence each and every day, allowing the space for Him to work in your life.  “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him…” (Psalm 37:7)
When we are all celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, let’s not have it be a day that simply brings us one step closer to Black Friday sales and all things Christmas.  Let us remember to soak in the goodness of God and the gifts He has given us for which we are so thankful. May our gratefulness to God reign in our hearts all year long. “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thinking You’re Hot (Revelation 3:14-22) | Communion
Have you ever looked back at some pictures of yourself from years ago and wondered what you were thinking?  You may even remember that you thought you really looked good. But now, with fresh eyes and a good deal of distance from that moment, you have a very different opinion of your appearance. For this last church in Revelation, Jesus tells the church at Laodicea that what they think of themselves is untrue. They think they are looking good, but Jesus actually tells them they are disgusting and to be pitied. As harsh as this message is to this church, it may have more application to the church today than any other message we’ve discussed so far.

Bible Study will be on hiatus until January 4th – stay tuned for what’s to come!

Please note our final study sheet for the year will be out on December 4th, and will return beginning January 8th. Click here to view the latest sheet.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meets at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

Psalm 1:3-4

Year 1: Hebrews
Year 2: James, 1&2 Peter, 1,2,3 John, Jude

We are excited to explore the story of Jesus’ birth and the hope it brings for us today in a world that feels so hopeless. This series, though small, will be jam packed with powerful truths that students will be able to carry with them and practice for years to come.
