Hope Notes 10/26/2022

October 26, 2022

Hello Hoper,
Last week I asked if you believed that God keeps His promises to us. I hope you took my advice and read through some Scripture on your own in order to have that firm belief and an unshakable faith that He does indeed do what He says He will do!  The reason I’m especially hoping you did is because I want to share just a few of those promises with you this week. The book of Isaiah holds some of my favorite verses of Scripture. I just finished reading chapters 45 & 46. Boy, if you ever find yourself in need of some faith building encouragement from God Himself, these are some fantastic  for you!  Please go and read both of them in their entirety; I can only really highlight a few in the space I have here.
God makes it clear He is who He says He is in Isaiah 45.  Four times he states “I am the Lord and there is no other; apart from me there is no God”.  He promises to open doors for us (vs1), go before us, level the mountains in front of us, break down the gates, cut through bars of iron (vs2).  He reminds us of His marvelous works: He formed the light and created darkness (vs7), He created the earth, mankind, and the heavens (vs12).  He assures us that He speaks the truth and declares what is right (vs19).
In Isaiah 46 God tells us that He will made us and will sustain us, He will carry us and rescue us (vs4). Just in case we have forgotten, He again makes it clear that He is God and there is no other; none like Him (vs9). He makes this bold statement of truth – “What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do” (vs11).  Friends, believe Him. “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.” (Numbers 23:19)

Bad Advice (Revelation 2:18-29)
If you have children, have they ever continually resisted advice you give them, but then when someone else gives them that same advice, they enthusiastically embrace it? This is one of many challenges in raising kids! Parents are pretty alert to the voices who have influence in their children’s lives.  That’s because they know that the choices their kids make are greatly impacted by who they listen to. For the church at Thyatira, they were listening to the wrong person. Jesus says they should know better and warns them to stop. In fact, He says that He will deal with the one leading them astray and purify His church. With so many voices trying to steer our lives today, it may be just the moment to be reminded that our true leader is Jesus and we need to check with Him so that we don’t embrace advice He would reject.

We’ll take a Christ-centered look at sex, marriage, and sexual identity. There are big questions facing both individuals and the church at large surrounding these topics, and we’ll explore the answers God has given us in scripture together as a church family. We’ll discuss sex in marriage, singleness, pornography, shame & forgiveness, and God’s love for us. Single or married, parent or not, there is something for everyone to learn. You won’t want to miss out on this time of study and conversation. This series will be in-person only; childcare provided.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Psalm 1:3-4

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.”

Year 2: James, 1&2 Peter, 1,2,3 John, Jude

HOPE DAILY: Available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify!
We post a 10 minute episode daily, Monday through Friday. You’ll hear from a variety of our staff as they share devotional thoughts and scriptures. Listen on Apple, Spotify, or on our website

On Saturday November 19th at 6:30, you can see the first two episodes of the latest season of The Chosen with your fellow Hopers! Pastor Dave is coordinating a viewing at the Somerdale Multiplex. If you want to go, you must commit by THIS Sunday. Tickets will be purchased that afternoon. Contact him before then at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org

Every 30 hours roughly 7,000 kids will die of starvation. We don’t think that’s right, so Hope Youth is raising awareness and money to better serve and feed families around the world. We’re doing this through a 30 Hour Famine on November 11 & 12 with World Vision, an organization committed to feeding communities as well as providing them with the education and equipment to feed themselves in the future. A simple donation of $40 can feed a child for a whole month! Join us in raising money to fight hunger by donating on our World Vision event page here.

BAPTISM SERVICE: First class this Sunday!
It’s not too late to be baptized at our upcoming service! We’d love you to participate if this is something you’ve yet to do in your journey of faith. The baptism service will be held on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00. To participate, you’ll need to attend both classes – each will be held after the second service on Sundays October 30th & November 6th. See Pastor Mark!

Grab a box at the back of the auditorium! Here’s how to make this easy & fun: CHOOSE a boy or girl and the age category. FILL WITH a quality ‘wow’ item, then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. PRAY for the child who will receive your gifts; you can include a personal note & photo.  If you’d like, you can donate the $10 per box shipping online and receive a tracking label to discover the destination of your shoebox. Finished boxes are due back November 13th.

2023 OFFICER ELECTION: Ballots out now!
It’s that time of year again! Deacon and leadership team nomination ballots are available in the lobby for all Hope Partners. We need every vote possible so make sure you pick one up and turn it in by November 28th. Any questions about the voting process can be directed to Pastor Mark, Pastor Dave, or one of our elders.

We know you want to rep Hope everywhere you go, and now you can! We have a run of merch for you to purchase (at cost!) that includes totes, long sleeved shirts, sweatshirts and more! Check it out here!

We’re so excited to see you and your family this Saturday! We are still accepting candy donations tonight at bible study. Also if you signed up to bring a baked good, please return them to the kitchen tonight. And of course we need you to spread the news! Share our social media posts, invite friends and family using our Facebook Event!

YOUTH GROUP: Sundays 6:00-8:00
Senior High Series: Christian Sexuality
The topic of sex, marriage, & sexual identity is inescapable in our world, and rather than forfeit that conversation, we want to be on the forefront of it in the lives of the next generation of believers. That’s why we’re using a curriculum designed by Christian scholars and experts on how faith intersects with our sexuality. It doesn’t shy away from any topic or subject, and always turns to Scripture for how to answer and approach rather than bending to what the world has to say.

Junior High Series: Who Am I?
As students make the big transition from elementary school to middle school (and Go Zone to youth group) the world also starts asking them tough and difficult questions. In just a few short years the world will try desperately to put our 6th and 7th graders into as confining a box as possible. The core of this series is that our central identity is “loved by God”; who God has made me to be, how I can live into that, and why that identity God has made for me is one worth being. Who Am I? will help our students develop a firm foundation for the future.

This small group will provide our senior high students with the opportunity to dive more deeply into the Word and create a space to more vulnerably and openly discuss faith and how it comes up against the challenges of the world. Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00. Our next meeting will be November 3rd – location to be announced!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

Christmas is one of our favorite seasons in the WonderZone! This year, we will sing about “The Real Christmas Story” at our  program on December 11th! Practices will begin THIS SUNDAY, October 9th at both the 8:30 and 10:00 services. You’ll want to have your little ones in class and on time so that they don’t miss out! Be sure to get your child’s practice CD and parent letter with more details about the upcoming program. Click here to start listening to the songs today! Our elementary kids will be performing “Good News Ahead: The Signs of Christmas!” on December 18th! Kids will learn the many signs of Christ’s birth as foretold by the prophets through catchy scripture-based songs and a fun script! Practices will begin THIS SUNDAY at both the 8:30 and 10:00 services. You’ll want to have your kids on time in the GoZone so that they don’t miss out! Be sure to get your child’s practice CD and parent letter with more details about the upcoming program. Click here to start listening to the songs today! Contact Pastor Ryan with any questions at ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org

All elementary kids are invited to join us in the GoZone on Sunday nights from

6PM-8PM for an extra dose of fun and Bible study. Just like on Sunday mornings, we gather together for games, Bible stories, and prayer—but with an extra hour there’s twice the excitement, bigger games, and more time to get to know each other! This September we will be continuing our journey through What’s In the Bible, picking up where we left off and brushing up on our Old Testament knowledge.

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly, enthusiastic, background checked team members to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children from infants through Pre-K, who are full of wonder about who God is!  K-5th graders gather in the GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever.
