Hope Notes 08/10/2022

August 10, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
God has set in front of us two paths. One looks exactly like the road we’re on. The other looks a little more treacherous, maybe a bit unreasonable. It would take courage to walk down that path.  It would take, dare I say, faith.  Trust in a God we cannot see but who is very much a real presence in our lives, working in ways we do not understand to grow our faith and bring us closer to Him.  We have a choice.  We can stay safely on the familiar path, or we can venture into the wild unknown where God just might be calling us to something marvelous.  It could be a ministry, a relationship, or simply a life choice that renders us fully surrendered to Him.  Living out the life He has purposed for us.
If you’re anything like me, those kinds of choices might seem scary.  But we have a promise from God that we would  not be stumbling blindly around in the dark into unknown territory.  In Isaiah 42:16, He says this: “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” This applies just as much to us as it did to the Israelites thousands of years ago.  If we do our best to trust Him, to keep our hearts attentive to His voice, we can experience what is recorded in Isaiah 30:21“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”  He has told us he will guide us, he will smooth the way for us, He will light the path.  All we need to do is choose to take those first tentative steps, knowing with certainty that He will not lead us astray!
God’s way is always the right way  – Lois

Living Free | Communion
(Luke 15:11-16; Judges 15:12-15; 16:15-21; John 8:32-36; Acts 13:39; Revelation 1:5; Galatians 5:1, 13; Romans 6:6-7, 11-12)

As Americans, we talk a lot about freedom.  Certainly, we have been given more liberty than the vast majority of people who have ever lived.  And in this freedom, our country has thrived.  Most of us have conveniences and resources that are beyond the imagination of many living today or who have gone before. But the freedom America offers is not true freedom.  It has no power to actually set us free.  In fact, many Americans who have freedom are still living in bondage.  In fact, true freedom comes through Jesus.  It is the kind that sets your soul free. And it isn’t dependent on political or national freedom – it often thrives in slavery and poverty! The tragic truth is that many Christians who have been set free don’t actually live free.  Let’s look at why that is and how we can practice living free!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

HOPE DAILY: Available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify!
We post a 10 minute episode daily, Monday through Friday. You’ll hear from a variety of our staff as they share devotional thoughts and scriptures. Listen on Apple, Spotify, or on our website

For the month of July we averaged $8717 per week bringing our annual weekly average down to $9568.  Our target is $9450 per week, so July was well behind that average. Please join us in praying for God’s provision for our ministry and all that He wants to do through Hope. We are grateful for each person who faithfully and sacrificially gives and we invite every Hoper to partner with us financially.

Join us for the inaugural Fella-ship Fantasy Football League! We’ll be hosting a live draft event on September 6th at 7pm here at the church. Those unable to make the draft event can still participate in the league.

You must sign up by August 21st to be included in the league. Sign-up in the lobby and see Dave Hallahan (dave@hopechristianfellowship.org) or Dylan Ott (dylan.ott.11@live.com) with questions.

LADIES EVENT: “Reflect: No Filter” Elevation Church Watch Party
Join us right here at Hope on Friday, September 16th at 6:30 for food, fellowship, and a watch party! We’ll be live-streaming Elevation Church’s “Reflect: No Filter” ladies event. This night will be about embracing the woman we see in the mirror and building “unfiltered” relationships with God & one another. We’ll worship together and hear an encouraging & challenging word from several speakers. There’s no cost to attend! Just sign-up in the lobby, and invite a friend if you’d like! Any questions see Dana Ott (danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org) Open to all ladies post high school and up.

Our worship team ministry could use some help in our Production Booth! If you have computer skills, are tech savvy, and/or are familiar with live-streaming, we’d love to have you on our Broadcast Team rotation. You don’t need to be a professional, but some skill and a willing heart to serve would be great! Please see Dana Ott (

danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org) or Ken Shinn (

kenbshinn@gmail.com) if interested.

Grow Groups will take place in Go Zone 2 during the 8:30 service following worship. Can’t wait to see your students there!

SENIOR HIGH SMALL GROUP: Starts September 1st
This small group will provide our senior high students with the opportunity to dive more deeply into the Word and create a space to more vulnerably and openly discuss faith and how it comes up against the challenges of the world. Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00, starting in September. The first meeting will be hosted by youth leaders Josh and Becky DeWalt at 81 Davidson Rd, Swedesboro NJ 08085

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

All our WonderZone and GoZone friends are invited to our HopeKids! Back to School Kickoff on Saturday, September 10th from 10:00a – noon. We’re throwing a party to celebrate the new school year—with music, games, school supplies! Don’t miss it! Sign-up at either registration table!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.
