Hope Notes 08/03/2022

August 3, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
There are many reasons to read the Bible. It is God’s instruction manual to us, telling us how to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to Him. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness…” (2Timothy 3:16)  The New Living Translation puts it like this – “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”  Pretty helpful, yes?  But it is also His love letter to us, overflowing with His faithfulness, grace and mercy towards us.  It is an encouragement for us, proclaiming all of God’s promises that we can cling to.  It is one of our greatest sources of Godly wisdom.
I thought of something else that makes me want to fill my head with those God breathed words of Scripture. Luke 6:45 says this: “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Catch that?  The mouth speaks what the heart is full of! I don’t know about you, but I want my head to be so full of God’s Word, His wisdom, and His thoughts that it just spills out and overflows straight through to my heart!  Because if the mouth speaks what is in the heart, then I want to be sure what’s in there consistently lines up with God’s teaching and that whenever I open my mouth there can be no doubt but that I belong to Him!

Facing Uncertainty
(Jeremiah 29:10-14; Hosea 3:1-3; 1 John 4:16-18)

When a couple gets married, they vow to one another to love one another through whatever comes.  Right in the traditional vows themselves is a plain acknowledgement that life is uncertain.  So the vows say that no matter what they face (sickness or health, riches or poverty, etc) the love they are promising will endure.  Truly this is one of the most notable and desirable parts of love.  But it is something we practice.  Love holds on.  But there are misunderstandings about HOW it holds on.  Is an abused woman supposed to stay in a marriage with her abuser because she loves him? Are parents supposed to keep housing and feeding their child who is being wrecked by addiction?  How can believers love others in an enduring way while staying healthy and alive in their souls? There are some answers in Scripture and in the example of God’s love for us!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.  I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

GROW GROUPS: Returning September!
Hope Youth resumes its annual Grow Group series on “big church”, helping 6th graders transition from Go Zone to adult Sunday services. For 6 weeks (9/4-10/9) 6th graders will learn together in a small group setting the core aspects of church, why the Church works the way it does, and how we can all be a part of making it happen! Grow Groups will take place in Go Zone 2 during the 8:30 service following worship. Can’t wait to see your students there!

SENIOR HIGH SMALL GROUP: Starts September 1st
This small group will provide our senior high students with the opportunity to dive more deeply into the Word and create a space to more vulnerably and openly discuss faith and how it comes up against the challenges of the world. Meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00, starting in September. The first meeting will be hosted by youth leaders Josh and Becky DeWalt at 81 Davidson Rd, Swedesboro NJ 08085

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our

calendar here!

All our WonderZone and GoZone friends are invited to our HopeKids! Back to School Kickoff on Saturday, September 10th from 10:00a – noon. We’re throwing a party to celebrate the new school year—with music, games, school supplies! Don’t miss it!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.
