Hope Notes 07/27/2022

July 27, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
I mostly sit in the same spot every morning when I read my Bible.  I like to look out the windows and see what’s happening in nature. There’s always lots to see; birds come and go, branches go from bare, to the green leaves of spring and summer, then to the multi-colored leaves in fall.  But the most interesting thing is the position of the sun and subsequent shadows that fall across our living room. They are just as much a sign of the changing seasons as those leaves. And they remind me of a favorite Bible verse.  James 1:17 tells us about the “Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”  (Or like the sunlight streaming through the windows.)  The fact that God does not change should be of great comfort to us. Every created thing in this life will let us down at some point in time. Whether it is circumstances, relationships, health, careers, or our children. Yet, however unstable the circumstances around us are, God remains a stable and secure rock for us to cling to.  Hebrews 13:8 reassures us again that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”  All that He is today, He has always been, and forever will be. He cannot change for the better, because He is already perfect. Because He is perfect, He cannot change for the worse.  Isn’t that encouraging?  In case we haven’t gotten the message yet, let me point out that God Himself says, “I the LORD do not change.” (Malachi 3:6)  Our lives can change in an instant.  But we can hold firm to the Truth that our God never does.  His power never changes.  His love never changes.  His Word never changes. Trust Him and let the One who created you hold you firm and secure in the ever-changing world in which we live.
Thankful for His unchanging presence in my life – Lois

Letting Go of Wrongs | VBS Closing Program
(Matthew 18:21-35; Ephesians 4:32; Romans 12:17, 21; Colossians 3:13-14)

How many times have you had something stuck in your head because a person said something hurtful to you? Maybe you played it off and acted like it didn’t bother you, but later on you can’t seem to get it out of your mind. The truth is that it is difficult to let go of wrongs done against us.  In fact, the larger the offense, the more difficult it is to disentangle ourselves from both the pain and the fallout.  But following Jesus invites us to a way of healing.  And part of that way is to forgive. You cannot live in love and hold onto the bitterness of hurt at the same time. Jesus invites us to know some transformational truth about ourselves that helps us respond to others by letting go of what they did to us. It asks us to believe that He is better at justice than we are and that our healing lies on the other side of forgiveness.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in the Youth Room.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Psalm 101:3

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

For questions about WonderZone (0-PreK) contact Kara May at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org
