Hope Notes 07/13/2022

July 13, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
I have an aversion to all the plaques and trinkets with sayings on them. I don’t know why I don’t like them; they’re immensely popular.  But the current sayings will eventually go out of vogue and be replaced with a trendier version. I guess just call it one of my quirks.  However I DO have one hanging in my bathroom.  I gave it a pass because it’s a Bible verse. Well…..okay and because it goes perfectly with the décor! The words of John 14:27 speak their comfort to anyone who happens to read it. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” There is an anonymous devotional book written in 1854 (The Words of Jesus) which echo this same promise. ‘The peace of the believer is deep, calm, lasting, everlasting. The world, with all its blandishments, cannot give it. The world, with all its fluctuations, cannot take it away.’
Are you longing for this kind of peace? Peace that is not dependent on what the world can give us?  Not our relationships. Not our bank account.  Not our status.  Not our health.  The Bible is full of verses that promise this to believers. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)  How about this verse in Psalm 29:11? “…..the LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.”   I know I sometimes struggle to find that peace when I’m in the midst of a particularly stressful season.  I have to remind myself that God is in control, that He knows my situation, and that He promises peace to me if I will only remember to trust Him.  Ephesians 2:14 says it pretty clearly: “For He himself is our peace….”  HE.  Jesus.  Nothing else will bring true peace into our hearts.  May we all be able to say these words from Psalm 4:8 and live them out on a regular basis! “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.”
Seeking only His true peace – Lois

Setting Your Focus
(Ephesians 4:26-27; James 1:19-20; Colossians 3:5-10; Romans 13:8-14; Deuteronomy 32:2-4; Psalm 18:30)

If you’re a photographer, you know a thing or two about focus.  Most of us take focus for granted since our phones automatically focus for us. But there are a few apps that let us go back to a technique where you can choose what is ‘in focus’ in the picture, and what is blurry instead. For artists, this control of focus was used to direct the viewer’s attention as desired. What was in focus naturally drew the eye of the one seeing it. In a similar way, what we choose to focus on in live will have a large impact on what we see, what we pay attention to, and how we process what happens in our lives.  Love chooses what to focus on. And that’s a habit we need to develop into a healthy pattern.  What are some of the right things to focus on, and what needs to move out of the picture?  Paul gives us three phrases that help us know what we need to work on!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Psalm 101:3
“I will not look with approval on anything that is vile; I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.”

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

For questions about WonderZone (0-PreK) contact Kara May at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org

For questions about GoZone (K-5th) contact Pastor Ryan Moreno at ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org
