Hope Notes 07/06/2022

July 6, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
I have always loved to read.  As a child I had a number of favorite books that I would read over and over again.  There was one in particular that truly spoke to me. Many times I would pretend to be the main character in that book, and would try to act out my day to mimic hers.  I would get lost in her ‘perfect’ life, wishing that mine looked anything at all like that. Mind you, I’m talking about myself as a five or six year old, and a perfect life simply looked like one where a child was happily living a carefree existence in a peaceful home! Years later, trying to come to terms with my tumultuous childhood, I had a counselor tell me something very interesting. She said my love of reading (and that book in particular) was my way of escaping the reality of my home life.  I had never thought of it that way, but once she said it, it all made perfect sense!
Now I still love to read, and I have discovered a book that doesn’t just offer me an escape from the trials of life, it offers solutions to those trials.  It speaks peace over chaos.  It gives encouragement.  Of course I’m talking about the Bible.  “The word of God is alive and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12 NLT), unlike those Little Golden Books I would immerse myself in as a child. Those books didn’t offer any actual instruction, but God’s Word certainly does.  “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2Timothy 3:16-17 NLT) I never really felt safe as a child, but as a child of God I know that I am safe with Him. “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”  (Proverbs 18:10) There is no better book to read if you are looking for answers, searching for peace, and desiring to grow closer to God!  If you haven’t picked up your Bible in a while, go right now, dust it off and open it up.  God has something to say just for you!

Let Me Tell You What I Want | Communion
(1 Corinthians 13:4; Proverbs 14:30; Hebrews 13:5; James 3:16; Romans 1:18-24, 28-32; Phil 4:11-12)

While we’re talking about practicing as believers, we should note that our culture gives us regular opportunities to practice what isn’t core to following Jesus.  For example, we are constantly barraged with opportunities to envy what someone else has.  Desire is seen as a good and healthy driver to decision making.  So why wouldn’t a company selling something try to fan the flame of “I want that” to get us to hand over our money so we can get it? But did you know that this is something that disables and quenches love?  We’re going to look today at the phrase ‘love does not envy’ and consider what we need to do so we can practice eliminating envy from our lives. Only then can we be people who reflect Jesus by loving others well.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Psalm 101:3
“I will not look with approval on anything that is vile; I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.”

HOPE DAILY: Available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify!
We post a 10 minute episode daily, Monday through Friday. You’ll hear from a variety of our staff as they share devotional thoughts and scriptures. Listen on Apple, Spotify, or on our website

For the month of June, we averaged $9541 per week which is almost exactly our annual weekly giving target of $9450. This brings our average through the first half of the year to $9731.  As we head into one of our busiest months – and the month of our highest investment in local outreach through VBS – we are grateful for the faithful sacrifice of Hopers to fuel what God is doing in and through our church!

Hope is supporting Kids Alley in the month of July by collecting items for the upcoming school year for kids in need! Help fill a child’s backpack or locker by viewing the list of items needed here, and donating in the bins located at the front and rear entrances at church. Any questions please contact Stacy Reid, sreid0905@gmail.com

SAVE THE DATE: Summer Pool Parties
Beginning August 6th, we’ll be having pool parties every Saturday in the month of August! Stay tuned for locations!

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

For questions about WonderZone (0-PreK) contact Kara May at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org

For questions about GoZone (K-5th) contact Pastor Ryan Moreno at ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org
