Hope Notes 06/29/2022

June 29, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
No matter how hard we try to put our pasts completely in the past, they somehow manage to limp along not too far behind us. They may whisper lies in our ears, telling us how ashamed we should be of things we thought had long disappeared in the rear view mirror of our lives. Yet the Bible says that God removes our shame. “I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth” (Zephaniah 3:19 ESV).
On the other hand, sometimes our pasts can call out to us with a siren song, wanting us to believe that our lives before surrendering to Christ were so much better; no restrictions, no ‘rules’, no moral dilemmas.  This, of course, is utter nonsense!  “Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.”  (Ephesians 3:20 TLB)
Either way, we shouldn’t let our pasts trip us up. The enemy would like nothing more than to derail us from a healthy walk of faith, rooted and centered in Christ. Philippians 3:13 talks about “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead”.  Good advice to keep the enemy and those wayward thoughts at bay!
A life that’s been changed – Lois

Pride Has No Place + An Update from Josh & Kelly Hallahan
(Proverbs 16:18; Romans 12:16; 1 Samuel 24:4-6; 26:8-11; Romans 12:17-18; Philippians 2:3-4)
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who always seems to need to ‘one up’ whatever you say?  If you talk about some kind of struggle, they respond with how much harder they have struggled.  If you relate something you’ve learned, sure enough, they have learned that long ago and mastered it. It’s really frustrating isn’t it? This is an expression of pride, and pride is a tremendous barrier in relationship.  If we’re called to love others, we need to go to war with the patterns of pride in our own lives. In fact, we need to replace them with practices of humility.  We’re going to take a look today at some of what the Bible says about how pride impacts our ability to love others.  We’ll try to come to some ideas on how we can practice humility instead. As an added bonus, we’ll hear an update from our missionaries Josh and Kelly Hallahan on their ministry in Kentucky.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Psalm 101:3
“I will not look with approval on anything that is vile; I hate what faithless people do; I will have no part in it.”

Looking for an opportunity to serve at Hope? The Kitchen Team is looking for volunteers to clean our little kitchen. It takes about 30 minutes to get it spic-n-span clean. You can clean on Sunday after the service you attend or on Tuesdays when the staff is in the office.  Our volunteers are put on a rotating schedule and we’d love to have you join. For more information, please contact Lauren Miller at lmlauren.miller@gmail.com.

First impressions matter, and we care about the impression we give new people as they come through our doors on a Sunday morning. Help us steward the gift God has given us in our building and join our Facilities Team! We are looking to put together a team that will work to keep the building tidy and service-ready. If you are available Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings and think this could be a good fit, email Eric & Sherri Riddell at esriddell1194@gmail.com

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening on our calendar here!

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

For questions about WonderZone (0-PreK) contact Kara May at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org

For questions about GoZone (K-5th) contact Pastor Ryan Moreno at ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org
