Hope Notes 06/22/2022

June 22, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
We just had a lovely celebration with our family this past Sunday for Father’s Day. Hoping you all did too…..and wasn’t that a great service we had at church with our GoZone Takeover!!  It’s funny, but on Father’s Day I rarely think about my father. As a child I did not celebrate Father’s Day.  I suppose it’s because I did not have the best childhood experiences with him, nor did my mom, who would have initiated the celebrations.  Also, my dad has been gone for over 40 years, so he doesn’t naturally come to mind. I’ve never really experienced what I imagine to be the feeling of being torn between celebrating the father of your child and your own father.  But I bet those of you who still have your dads would understand that!  For me, Father’s Day is a day meant for my husband. My husband is a wonderful dad who set his mind on being the kind of father he never had.  He determined he would take his wisdom and instruction from the Lord and run with it. I am not saying this to ‘brag’ on him (well ok maybe I am a little!) but to give encouragement to those who do not feel they had a good example in their earthly father.  As believers, we have a heavenly Father who loves us more than we will ever be able to love. “How great is the love our Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God….” (1 John 3:1)  He never disciplines us out of anger or frustration, but only out of love. “For the Lord disciplines the one he loves….” (Hebrews 12:6)  He truly has our best interest at heart, and is always working for our good. “The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” (Psalm 126:3)  He even gave us a full set of instructions in the Bible on how to parent. The Bible teaches us how precious children are to parents, how to love them, train them, and discipline them. So, take heart! Even if your earthly father wasn’t the best role model, you can spend time in God’s Word and turn to Him for wisdom and guidance. And no matter what your feelings are about your own father, you can rejoice knowing you have a Father in heaven worthy of all the celebration and praise!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads  – Lois

It’s All About Me + An Update from Roberta Nagel
(1 Cor 13:4; Philippians 2:25-30)
Have you ever had a conversation with a person who really likes to talk about themselves?  While it is normal in conversation to talk about your own experiences and ideas, there’s something unmistakable in certain people who cross the line into self-absorbed. When you notice it, you first marvel at their ability to take any topic and turn it back to themselves. But before long, you are looking for a way out.  Love isn’t about ‘me’ at all. We read about this in our description on love from 1 Corinthians 13 because it says love is not ‘self-seeking’. We have many examples in Scripture of how this principle of love plays out.  We’ll take time this morning to hear from one of our missionaries, Roberta Nagel, as she gives us an update on her ministry. And we’ll explore how we can practice loving others by not making it all about ‘me’!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

James 4:6
“But He gives us more grace. That is why scripture says: God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Year 2: 1 Chronicles 10-29

Looking for an opportunity to serve at Hope? The Kitchen Team is looking for volunteers to clean our little kitchen. It takes about 30 minutes to get it spic-n-span clean. You can clean on Sunday after the service you attend or on Tuesdays when the staff is in the office.  Our volunteers are put on a rotating schedule and we’d love to have you join. For more information, please contact Lauren Miller at lmlauren.miller@gmail.com.

First impressions matter, and we care about the impression we give new people as they come through our doors on a Sunday morning. Help us steward the gift God has given us in our building and join our Facilities Team! We are looking to put together a team that will work to keep the building tidy and service-ready. If you are available Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings and think this could be a good fit, email Eric & Sherri Riddell at esriddell1194@gmail.com

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

For questions about WonderZone (0-PreK) contact Kara May at karamay@hopechristianfellowship.org
