Hope Notes 06/15/2022

June 15, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
If you’ve been reading these Notes for any length of time you know two things about me: (1)-I am reading through Psalms and (2)-I am admittedly ‘Bible nerdy’.  So you can imagine my delight when I came to Psalm 118:8 (“It is better to trust in the Lord than to trust in man”) and found a note dated August 1992 saying ‘exact center of the Bible’! Ummm yes I write and date stuff in my Bible; I’m Bible nerdy remember? Now, I don’t know where I got that information back in ’92, so I did a little research and found that the general consensus backs up that fact.  God never leaves things up to chance, so I believe that center verse ought to remind us to have our trust in God be a center point of our walk.  It reminds us that trusting God over ourselves or other people is the way we should be living.  Psalm 62:8 explains one of the many reasons we should be trusting Him.  “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”  I know when times are tough and life seems hard, a refuge is something we all need!
Once I got done contemplating all of the above, I turned to Psalm 119 and found that it’s the longest chapter in the Bible.  Oh be still, my little Bible nerdy heart!  And what are all those 176 verses about? His Word!  Again, God doesn’t leave things to chance so it stands to reason that He would devote 176 verses to one very important topic.  I have a quote written at the beginning of the chapter which reads, ‘His Word will keep you from sin, but sin will keep you from His Word.’  There are many good verses in there so it’s hard to pick a favorite.  But I will say that vs 89-90 are top contenders. “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.  Your faithfulness continues through all generations….”  Since I am putting my trust in the Lord, then I am putting my trust in His Word.  What a comfort to know it is eternal, that it stands firm, settled and unchanging. “For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endures to all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)
His Word calls to me; may I always answer – Lois

HopeKids Takeover
For the past few years, Father’s Day has been a special service at Hope.  We turn the morning over to our HopeKids ministry and enjoy watching and participating in what God is doing in our children.  Kids have always been a big deal to our church family, so we show up and support them, we serve them and teach them, and most of all, we love them.  VBS is only a few short weeks away, and we’ll need all hands on deck.  But we serve kids every single week, and we love doing it.  Come out and lend your support and encouragement to our kids and our ministry leaders as they take over our service this morning.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

James 4:6
“But He gives us more grace. That is why scripture says: God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

It’s that time of year already! This year’s VBS will be from July 25-29 and we’re looking for volunteers to register NOW! Help us teach kids that God’s love for them is HUGE with this year’s theme, Monumental: Celebrating God’s Greatness! Grab a volunteer form this Sunday and turn into Pastor Ryan. If you’re not able to volunteer for the week, we’ll be having VBS decorating nights on Tuesdays at 7:00 starting June 28th. Join us then – no need to sign-up!

Last week Pastor Dave sent out a discipleship survey via email to our Hope Partners. Our hope is that this survey helps you to take a moment and reflect on your personal discipleship process and that it serves as an indicator of what we, as a church, can be doing better. If you did not receive the survey, please contact Pastor Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org to receive the link, or you can request a physical copy of the form.

First impressions matter, and we care about the impression we give new people as they come through our doors on a Sunday morning. Help us steward the gift God has given us in our building and join our Facilities Team! We are looking to put together a team that will work to keep the building tidy and service-ready. If you are available Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings and think this could be a good fit, email Eric & Sherri Riddell at esriddell1194@gmail.com

HOPE SHARE: Facebook Group
Don’t throw it out – share it! Hope Share a place to post things we no longer use and to look for things we do! It’s easy to upload photos of items you’d like to give away and to search for that special item you just might need. Hope Share is private for Hopers and an easy way to help meet each other’s needs in the church. Request to join here!

Hey ladies! Summer is almost here and what’s more fun than a pool-side picnic lunch with friends? We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, July 2nd from 11:00am – 2:00pm for our “Sip ‘n Dip Ladies Event” at the Baumiester’s home (750 Fairview Ave. Woodbury Heights, NJ 08097). There are two sign up sheets in the front lobby – one is to let us know that you can attend and the other is if you’d like to bring a side dish or dessert to share! We’ll supply the sandwiches and cold drinks so we’ll need a headcount for set up and supplies. Remember your bathing suit and towel if you’d like to swim! This is an event for all our ladies post high school and up – hope to see you there! Contact Dana at danaott@hopechristianfellowship.org for more info!

In lieu of our normal “Workshop Wednesdays,” this June we are highlighting three of our ministries that do not meet weekly throughout the year. So for these four consecutive weeks you’ll get to experience God’s Girls, Men’s Breakfast, or Young Adults as a special series.

  • Men’s Breakfast – At Night!
We’ll be centering our study on Romans 12:1-2. What does it mean to be a living sacrifice? How do we avoid being conformed to the patterns of this world? How do we go about being transformed by the renewing of our minds? Through all of this we’ll look to recognize the sovereignty of the Father & Son and train ourselves to walk in the Spirit. Open to all men 18 and older.
  • Young Adults – Becoming Who We Want To Be
None of us just arrived at the person we are today. We’ve been shaped and molded to be who we are – both intentionally and unintentionally. Over these four weeks we’ll look at practices that will root us in the ways of Jesus so we can become who we were created to be. Open to high school graduates through their 20s.
  • God’s Girls
Join us for a time of fellowship, study, and prayer as the women of Hope. We’ll be looking at the parables of Jesus. Open to all ladies 18 and older.

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 7:30
The Young Adults ministry at Hope Christian Fellowship is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. Any questions, contact Pastor Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org

Sunday night Youth Group is on hiatus for June & July, but you can still stay connected by attending our church wide summer events, or consider volunteering for VBS!
