Hope Notes 05/25/2022

May 25, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
I’m currently reading through the Psalms, determined to make my way from beginning to end!  When I got to Psalm 106:20-21, I literally put my Bible down and stopped to examine myself. Want to know what the verses said? Get ready to examine your own selves! Here you go – “They exchanged their glorious God for an image of a bull, which eats grass. They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt…”  Maybe it won’t hit you the same way it hit me.  And certainly none of us have any bulls in the backyard eating grass! But I know there are times when I have forgotten what God has done for me.  I give in to worry because I’ve ‘forgotten’ all the times and ways in which He has taken care of me. There’s that bull in the backyard!  My glorious God has done wondrous things for me over and over again.  And yet I forget.
Once I got over the force of the conviction and picked up my Bible again, I began cross referencing verses and looking things up.  (I’m Bible nerdy that way.) But look what I found!  Jeremiah 2:11 had this to say – “But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols.” Oh brother!  Just another way that we carelessly disregard God’s majesty.  Compared to the gory of our God, things like careers, money, power, status, and even relationships can be worthless idols in our lives when we put them before Him. I also found this verse in Psalm 101:3 BSB“I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.” The context in which it’s being written is a little different, but I just love how it complements the verse in Jeremiah.
All these verses were such a needed reminder from God; always remember what He has done and will continue to do for us. Keep Him first. Make sure all those other ‘worthless things’ that compete for our focus take a back seat to the glory and splendor of our King.
Nothing Before Him – Lois

SPIRITUAL CARE  SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE:
Morning of Worship | Communion
A few times a year, we take the whole Sunday morning service to pour out praise to our Lord. As we head into our summer series “It Takes Practice (To Be A Christian)”, we’re going to start with a bang.  One pattern that Christians need is worshipping together in community. We need to inspire and encourage one another as we lift up the name of Jesus. So, this morning, we’re going to practice part of what it takes for us to fully love God: Worshipping Him with our whole heart. Like Psalm 145 says: Every day I will praise you and extol your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom.”

PRAYER HUDDLE:
If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

So for these four consecutive weeks you’ll get to experience God’s Girls, Men’s Breakfast, or Young Adults as a special series at 7:00pm on Wednesdays. Sign-up in the lobby!

  • Men’s Breakfast – At Night!
We’ll be centering our study on Romans 12:1-2. What does it mean to be a living sacrifice? How do we avoid being conformed to the patterns of this world? How do we go about being transformed by the renewing of our minds? Through all of this we’ll look to recognize the sovereignty of the Father & Son and train ourselves to walk in the Spirit. Open to all men 18 and older.
  • Young Adults – Becoming Who We Want To Be
None of us just arrived at the person we are today. We’ve been shaped and molded to be who we are – both intentionally and unintentionally. Over these four weeks we’ll look at practices that will root us in the ways of Jesus so we can become who we were created to be. Open to high school graduates through their 20s.
  • God’s Girls
Join us for a time of fellowship, study, and prayer as the women of Hope. We’ll be looking at the parables of Jesus. Open to all ladies 18 and older.
