Hope Notes 05/11/2022

May 11, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
This past weekend our daughter Emily and her family moved into a brand sparkling new home just a half mile from us!  This is cause for great excitement and joy along with praise for all the Lord has done over the past year to make this dream a reality.  And yet somehow I found myself feeling slightly bittersweet at the thought of them leaving the little home where they built their family (and gave us our cherished grandson!)  I’ve always had a tendency to be reluctant to let go of what is being left behind rather than simply looking ahead to what’s to come. This is the opposite of what Paul talks about doing in Philippians 3:13.  “Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead….”  I can’t picture Paul being nervous about what lies ahead and wanting to cling to the past!
Nowhere has this flaw of mine played out more emphatically than in my hesitancy to surrender my life to Jesus Christ.  I hemmed and hawed, thinking only about what I would have to ‘give up’.  It never entered my mind to think about what I was going to gain as a member of God’s family.  I worried about losing my friends, having to give up the lifestyle I was living, and possibly make sacrifices I wasn’t prepared to make. How I wish I had known that whatever I thought I might ‘lose’ would pale in comparison to what I would gain!  “Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord….” (Philippians 3:8 NLT)  I suppose that was my first act of faith as a baby believer.  Not really understanding anything, but deciding to take that step.  What happened was this:  God graciously gave me “more than I could ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20) despite my floundering.  A better life.  Better friends.  A precious church family.  Meaning and purpose to my life. His roadmap for life (Bible).  Peace.  Hope.  Joy.  I could go on and on.  My friends, if anyone reading this is on the fence like I was, hop right off and into the arms of the Father.  You can rest assured that the words Paul spoke in Philippians 4:19 are true. “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”   He is the source of everything we need and will not hesitate to supply it for you.
Hold loosely to the past and tightly to Jesus – Lois

Pass It On (Numbers 27:12-23)
Have you ever thought that someone was ‘holding on too long’?  Maybe it was an athlete who couldn’t recognize that their time was over, or someone who found a look they liked years ago and held onto it decades more than they should have.  The reality of time for all of us is that we grow older and eventually our time on this earth is done.  What should we do with that?  In this story about Moses, we see the moment where he passes on his calling and position to Joshua. It wasn’t something that happened suddenly; Joshua had been around for a while as Moses’ right hand man.  Things like pride and sentiment can hold us back from paving the way for others. But with a cause as great as ours, we can’t afford to drop the ball.  We should live for what matters, and work so that others will pick up where we leave off.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Proverbs 19:11
“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.”

It’s an easy way to find other Hoper’s contact info. You can even download an app on your phone! Help us stay connected and sign up by May 29th. Any questions, contact Emily DiLorenzo at emily@hopechristianfellowship.org

If God has brought you to Hope and convinced you over time that this is the church for you, we’d love for you to become a partner. This is our way of doing ‘membership’, but we use the word ‘partner’ instead because it connects us to the Biblical idea that we are called to partner together in ministry (Philippians 1:3-6). As partners, we share the burdens and work of the ministry together, and we serve our Lord as a team. Partners are able to vote on our budget, as well as elect deacons and leadership team candidates. To become a partner, grab a form from the lobby or download one here, fill out, and hand in to Pastor Mark or any of the elders. Any questions, contact Pastor Mark at markott@hopechristianfellowship.org

Our missionary to Guatemala, Lauren Pupchik-Tipaz, is looking for accommodations for herself, her daughter Caroline, and her mom Evelyn for an upcoming trip between June 28th through July 11th, and again the first 2 weeks in October. They are willing to pay for their stay, as well as any expenses they would incur. They were thinking maybe someone would be going on vacation and might need a house sitter! If your home is available during any of those dates, please email Emily DiLorenzo at emily@hopechristianfellowship.org

FIGHT CLUB: Tuesdays at 7:00
This confidential group for men will be using Tim Chester’s “Closing the Window: Steps to Living Porn Free” to look at the ways we can both spiritually and practically fight The Fight against pornography. Fight Club will meet at church in Go Zone 2 and run for 6 weeks. For more information, contact Dan by text (856-285-9016) or email danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

Join us in-person at 7:00pm in the Youth Room for a mid-week spiritual refresher! We’ll be picking up where we left off in the book of Ephesians. Bible study will run from April 20th – through May 25th. (Childcare for Pre-K provided)
Join us on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 8-9:30 in the Youth Room for a time of fellowship, study, and, of course, delicious & free breakfast! Open to all men 18 and older.

Men, join us for food and some friendly competition on Saturday, June 11th starting at 10:00a. Register here as an individual or a team: teams will be 3-5 people. We’ll have hot dogs & burgers after. Come early at 8:00 for a full breakfast!

In lieu of our normal “Workshop Wednesdays,” this June we are highlighting three of our ministries that do not meet weekly throughout the year. So for these four consecutive weeks you’ll get to experience God’s Girls, Men’s Breakfast, or Young Adults as a special series at 7:00pm on Wednesdays. Sign-up in the lobby!

  • Men’s Breakfast – At Night!
We’ll be centering our study on Romans 12:1-2. What does it mean to be a living sacrifice? How do we avoid being conformed to the patterns of this world? How do we go about being transformed by the renewing of our minds? Through all of this we’ll look to recognize the sovereignty of the Father & Son and train ourselves to walk in the Spirit. Open to all men 18 and older.
  • Young Adults – Becoming Who We Want To Be
None of us just arrived at the person we are today. We’ve been shaped and molded to be who we are – both intentionally and unintentionally. Over these four weeks we’ll look at practices that will root us in the ways of Jesus so we can become who we were created to be. Open to high school graduates through their 20s.
  • God’s Girls
Join us for a time of fellowship, study, and prayer as the women of Hope. Open to all ladies 18 and older.

Meets 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 7:30
The Young Adults ministry at Hope Christian Fellowship is a group of post-high school through their twenties adults truly seeking to explore life, engage culture, and empower change while remaining ground in the Word of God. Any questions, contact Pastor Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org
