Hope Notes 04/06/2022

April 6, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
Back in the 70’s I used to do some paid work as a photographer.  Calendars for businesses, the photo finish line at the racetrack, portraits and weddings.  This was all back in the days of film photography.  Talk about PRESSURE!  A horse only crosses the finish line once.  And we all know that wedding/reception moments are once in a lifetime events.  There is no chance for a retake or a do over.  Not like today, where we have digital cameras and phones always at the ready to grab a shot.  The moments we capture come to life instantly on the screen before us and we can immediately retake the picture if necessary.  Especially with people.  Never mind that a real moment was captured by the camera, many times the subject will ask to see the photo and request a redo. They want it to look ‘better’.
I feel like this same philosophy is true with many people who are waiting to either come to Christ or to deepen their relationship with Him.  They want to look better, do better, BE better before they feel they are worthy of His love.  If they could, I’m sure they would ‘Photoshop’ all their flaws away.  But God does not need or want us to be perfect before we come to Him.  In fact, He already SEES us as pretty much perfect. Ephesians 1:4 says, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” In fact, we should take comfort in the fact that God doesn’t care one bit about how we look.  He is looking at our hearts. “…….For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)  Pretty cool, isn’t it?! So don’t waste any more time waiting until you look better or do better before running to God.  It absolutely isn’t necessary!  And really, neither are all those digital ‘do-overs’!
Thankful that God sees only our hearts – Lois

Balaam’s Story: Let’s Make A Deal (Numbers 22:36-23:12)
Remember that daytime game show ‘Let’s Make A Deal’? Aside from the fact that everyone comes in a costume, the premise of the show is that contestants have to ‘make a deal’. The problem is that they most often don’t know the deal they are making. They are invited to give away something of known value for something of unknown value. Only after they make a choice do they get to see what they’ve chosen (or could have chosen) instead of what they already had. Too often, people think of religion as ‘making a deal’. We probably all know that this game show reflects a lot of what it’s like to make a deal with sin or the devil. But what about when we try to make a deal with God? Let’s see what happens when Balaam and Balak try to maneuver God into a deal to curse Israel.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15
And we urge you brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.  Make sure nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
Year 1: 1 Samuel
Year 2: Genesis 26-50
Psalms 40-51

HOPE DAILY: Available on Apple Podcasts & Spotify!
We post a 10 minute episode daily, Monday through Friday. You’ll hear from a variety of our staff as they share devotional thoughts and scriptures. Listen on Apple, Spotify, or on our website
For the month of March, we averaged $10,355 per week bringing our annual average for this year to $9,449. Since our target for this year is $9,450, we’re virtually exactly on target after the first quarter. With the next quarter taking us into the summer months, we know this is not the end of the story, so we’re joining our church family in prayer that the Lord will continue to provide through our faithful and generous giving to Hope!

Not surprisingly, our baptism service was incredibly moving and powerful! We are so excited for those Hopers who came forward and shared their testimonies. Join us in praying for them: Parker Shillig, Jason Berardi, Melissa August & her son, Michael,
Sisters Grace & Kenzie Patterson.
