Hope Notes 03/09/2022

March 9, 2022

Hello Hoper ~
It was such a beautiful day that I decided to take our grandson Maverick on a walk in our backyard.  We have about two acres, so it is a long walk, especially with an inquisitive toddler.  He meanders leisurely towards the grove of trees, stopping to pick up every interesting leaf or stick.  He invites me to sit and sniff a blade of grass. He examines each rock to find just the right one and places it in my pocket.  He notices every bird and plane that flies overhead; waving excitedly to each and every one.  Stops to throw leaves in the air.  To inspect a piece of bark and break it apart. Nothing escapes his attention. Time matters not.  As we were walking, I realized what a gift it was to simply be in the moment.  Not rushing to get done so we could move on to the next thing.  THIS right now……this was all that mattered.  It was quite the life application of the phrase ‘stop and smell the roses’.
I think we all need to pay attention to the good things around us, the blessings, the gifts that God has given us…….the ‘roses’ if you will. We need to take the time to stop and (figuratively) smell them. Slow down and breathe in the fragrance of God rising up from His gifts to us.“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
Mahatma Gandhi said, “There is more to life than increasing its speed”. The Bible puts it this way, “……how much more will hasty feet miss the way!” (Proverbs 19:2)  I don’t want to miss the way.  To be in such a hurry that I overlook not just the beauty God has laid out before me, but the moments He has graciously bestowed upon me.  Magical backyard moments with a toddler. With family. With friends.  God is not about rushing and barely taking time to acknowledge the things and people He has placed in our lives. God is all about rest.  Restoration. Rejuvenation. Peace. Calm. “He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul….” (Psalm 23:2-3)  Doesn’t that sound like the kind of life to have?  We could all do well to take a page from Maverick’s book; slow down, smell the roses, (or even that blade of grass) and allow ourselves to fully experience each moment given to us by our heavenly Father.

Sihon and Og (Numbers 21:16-35)
Learning a new skill can be frustrating.  You don’t seem to quite have the feel for whatever it is you are trying to do.  There are so many things you naturally and easily do better, so it can be quite tempting to discard the new endeavor in favor of something more likely to bring a sense of full success and accomplishment. But there is value to the struggle. Eventually, you start to figure out how to do whatever it is you are trying to learn.  With practice and repetition, it starts to feel more natural. And before you know it, you are over the hump and enjoying your new skill. With the Lord, this process is reflected in how we learn to move away from what we naturally do that is wrong.  In the beginning, we can’t seem to stop or to find any other way to approach the matter.  But it is vital that we let God teach us and that we patiently learn so that God’s power can be poured out on our lives in the way His heart desires for us.

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

For the month of February, we averaged $8968 bringing our current annual average down to $9047 per week. This remains below our target of $9450 but ahead of our start for last year.  We remain convinced that God is going to use this year in our church for incredible and powerful ministry, so we’re believing that the coming months will see giving that increases our average beyond our target. Pray with us for our church and for God’ provision through the faithful and sacrificial giving of His people.

Are you new to Hope within the past year? Our staff and elder team would love to get to know you and your family! Join us on Friday, April 8th at 7:00 for coffee and desserts! Sign-up in the lobby.

BIBLE STUDY: Final lesson tonight!
Do I Have To Live Stressed Out?

You may know someone who lives stressed out, and there’s a pretty good possibility that person is you. Explore with us whether or not we are doomed to live forever overwhelmed by stress.  Does being a Christian have any impact on how we walk in stressful situations?  Can we discover truths in Scripture that help us see clearly on what a faith approach means to the uncertainties and pressures of life?  We’ll look at some of God’s promises and explore ten lies that trip us up and cause us to get lost in stress. Join us in person or via livestream.

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.
