Hope Notes 02/09/2020

February 9, 2022
Hello Hoper ~
On a trip to the Liberty Science Museum in NYC, I stood before a True Mirror (also called a Non-Reversing Mirror).  Have you ever seen one of those?  Let me tell you, it was a truly strange experience and I did not like it at all! Rather than show you a reflection of yourself like a regular mirror, it somehow shows your face the way others actually see it. (You can google how it works if you’d like all the scientific details.)  This brings up the point that we never really see ourselves as others see us.  We only see ourselves as a reflection or in a photograph.  When I saw myself in that True Mirror it was like meeting myself for the first time. It made me feel like I’d been operating under a false sense of how I looked my whole life!  I guess it’s a similar experience to hearing your voice on a recording (THE HORROR!!!).
It’s one thing to not be able to see yourself as others see you, but quite another thing trying to comprehend how God sees us! Mirrors, photographs, and others only touch on our physical appearance.  God goes much deeper than that.  Listen to what God says in 1 Samuel 16:7: “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” Okay, so what DOES God see when He looks at our hearts?  Hard to believe, but He sees us as holy and blameless!  “…he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” (Colossians 1:22 NLT)  When He looks at us, He sees one of His children. “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)  And, also hard to believe, but He sees us as heirs.  “And since we are his children, we are his heirs.” (Romans 8:17 NLT)
I don’t feel like that person I saw in the True Mirror, but that’s who others see.  I don’t feel holy and blameless, but that’s who our Heavenly Father sees. I don’t advise gazing into a True Mirror but I do advise reading the Bible and gaining a better understanding of how God sees us.  Once you grab hold of that Truth, it won’t matter one bit what mirrors, or photographs, or others reflect back to us!

Roadblock and Loss (Numbers 20:14-29)
Sometimes life is just plain hard. For God’s people, this can be just a reflection of the brokenness of this world and the fallen nature of humanity.  But there are times when God brings struggle to believers for a purpose.  That purpose is always good, even when the experience is awful. For Israel, God brings a roadblock and a loss into their story for His work in them. As a newly formed nation under God, they need to learn some things about the God they worship and the way they should relate to Him.  A seemingly unnecessary obstacle shows up and asks us why God would allow it.  Then a major loss comes and God seems to use it to remind them of something and to ask them to learn how to grieve and to look forward.  In these stories, we’re still learning what it means to be God’s people!

If you’re volunteering on a Sunday morning, whether its greeting, HopeKids!, in the sound booth, etc., please join us for a team prayer huddle! We want to gather together everyone who is serving that morning to pray for the services. Meet at 8:15 in GoZone 2.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).

Ecclesiastes 5:1-2
Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

For the month of January, we averaged $9110 per week.  This starts us in the new year slightly behind our target of $9450 but is ahead of our start from last year.  We’re grateful for the way the Lord is working and ready to see what He has for us in the coming months. Let’s all pray together that the Lord will use us powerfully for His Kingdom as His people and His church this year!

BIBLE STUDY: Wednesdays at 7:00
Do I Have To Live Stressed Out?

You may know someone who lives stressed out, and there’s a pretty good possibility that person is you. Explore with us whether or not we are doomed to live forever overwhelmed by stress.  Does being a Christian have any impact on how we walk in stressful situations?  Can we discover truths in Scripture that help us see clearly on what a faith approach means to the uncertainties and pressures of life?  We’ll look at some of God’s promises and explore ten lies that trip us up and cause us to get lost in stress. Join us in person or via livestream.

What’s Love Got To Do With It?
Tuesday, Feb 15th at 7:30

We are bombarded with messages about what it means to love and be loved. We gravitate to different messages and understandings at different times. Join us as we discuss what we’re told about love and what we’ve learned through our experiences in the relational world. Open to anyone graduated high school through their twenties. Contact Pastor Dave with questions: dave@hopechristianfellowhip.org
YOUTH GROUP: Sunday Nights 6-8:00pm
Students ages 6th-12th grade are invited to join us on Sunday nights for a time of fellowship, fun, and study! Contact Pastor Dan with any questions: danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org
“More than Just a Daughter” Series
In our new series we will see the story of the Bible through the eyes of women of faith, exploring the narrative as well as the themes that lead us from the days of the covenant with Abraham all the way to the resurrection of Jesus. Meanwhile we will explore how God has pursued, included, and equipped the historically downtrodden, and the hope such a love brings to all of us today.

For six weeks Pastor Dan and Mike Gross will lead 6th grade students in making the transition from the Go Zone service to the adult service. They will be covering the basics of a Sunday morning, why we do them, and teach the students how they can take part and own their experience! We hope to see you then in Go Zone 2 during the first service after worship!

Join Hope Youth on Wednesday nights at 7:00 as we Actually get to know Jesus. By learning and practicing habits every week we will be growing our relationship with Jesus and gaining tools to use at home day by day. This study is open to all teens ages 6th grade and up. Any questions contact Pastor Dan at danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

Parents, stay up to date with everything happening by adding the Hope Youth Google calendar to your own! Click here to view

We offer childcare and classes from our littlest Hopers to our 5th graders every Sunday morning at both the 8:30 & 10 services. Each classroom is staffed with friendly and enthusiastic teachers and helpers who are background checked to ensure your child’s safety. Our WonderZone! serves our youngest children, who are full of wonder about who God is! We have an infant room, one-year-old room, toddler classroom, and a pre-K classroom in order to serve each child with an age-appropriate curriculum. K-5th graders gather in the youth room for our opening service called The GoZone! where we GO for God, GO for growth and GO forever through worship, games and an interactive lesson through teaching and videos. The K-5th graders are then split up into age appropriate small groups to dive deeper into the lesson where they can share their own experiences and ask any questions they may have.

Beginning January 5th at 7:00 we will be offering programs for all children ages 0-5th grade. We hope this frees parents up to come out to Wednesday Night Bible Study! Plus, we love the opportunity to have another chance in the week to engage with our Hope kids and teach them about Jesus.
