Hope Notes 11/10/2021

November 10, 2021

Hello Hoper~
Have you ever noticed how many foods are fortified?  Just take a stroll down the grocery store aisle and read the labels. Milk is fortified with Vitamin D.  Orange juice is fortified with Vitamin C.  Cereals are fortified with iron. Those extra ingredients increase the effectiveness of the items.
In the military in order to strengthen your defenses, you fortify them, perhaps by adding more arms or increasing your defensive walls.  These two examples reflect the dictionary’s primary definition of fortify – to make strong or stronger, or to add to.  Why am I thinking about fortifying things?  Because I read a passage in Jude that could easily be a prescription for how to fortify your faith and now I can’t stop thinking about it! Let me take you along the path my mind went down……Jude 1:20-23

Vs 20 – “Build yourselves up in the most holy faith” (By reading Scripture)
20 – “and pray in the Holy Spirit” (Prayer, obviously)
21 – “Keep yourselves in God’s love” (Spend time with God)
21 – “as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life”
(Keep an eternal perspective and persevere.)
22 – “…..snatch others from the fire and save them” (Witness)

And one final one that isn’t in that passage (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
“…….encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
(Fellowship with other believers in Small Groups, Bible Study, etc)

I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll try and follow the above prescription so that I can have a label that clearly states, “Fortified with Faith”!

Seeking a Flourishing Faith- Lois

(2 Corinthians 3:16-18; Romans 12:2; Philippians 3:20-21)

For the finale of our ALIVE series, we’re going to talk about one more reality that may be holding you back from feeling alive like Jesus wants you to. God’s grace is amazing; He forgives us and gives us so much more than we deserve.  We can never lose His love and we don’t have to hold onto Him, because He holds onto us. But our humanity will always try to bend this into selfish and self-centered living. We begin to think and act like we can take advantage of God’s grace to live godless.  We wouldn’t call it that, but the truth is that we set aside God’s instructions and advice so that we can pursue what our flesh wants. And we allow it because of God’s grace. What if this mindset and these choices are missing the life that we’ve been given in Jesus?  What if exercising our freedom to choose in this way is derailing what we actually are longing for? Jesus is life, and God’s people live.  But that is only experienced when we embrace the transforming work of God in our lives.

Jude 17-19

“But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times, there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.”

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).    ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRAY for the child who will receive your gifts; you can include a personal note & photo. If you’d like, you can donate your $9 per box shipping online and receive a tracking label to discover the destination of your shoebox: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/ Any questions, contact Jodi Jacoby at jjacoby804@comcast.net Finished shoeboxes are due back at Hope by Sunday, November 14th.
