Hope Notes 10/20/2021

Hello Hoper~
Many of these early fall mornings the air is heavy with humidity and fog.  As a result, every single spider web is visible.  Each silken thread, so intricately woven, is highlighted by the faint rays of sun. Drops of dew glisten from every filament.  I’ve seen plenty of photographs taken in order to showcase the ‘beauty’.  But, as much as I love to photograph nature, you’ll never see one of those pictures in my portfolio!  Webs are objects of fear for me.  I am the person walking through the yard with a stick held high in front of me lest I accidentally walk through one of those webs. Just thinking about it gets my heart pounding!  Instead of feeling calm because I can now SEE every one of them and thereby avoid them, I have the opposite reaction. It fills me with more fear because precisely because I CAN see how many there are; I feel surrounded by them. I believe the same thing is true regarding fear/anxiety/worry in general.  The more we ‘see’ them, the more we focus on them, and the more power those emotions hold over us. Once we begin to notice them, we tend to start looking for them everywhere.  And believe me, what you look for you will find! Since that is true, what we need to do instead is keep our eyes and our heart firmly fixed on seeking Jesus Christ. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)  When we keep our eyes on Him we have nothing to worry about, nothing to fear.  He knows our every need. Just read Matthew 6.  Not only that, but He intends to give us MORE than what we need!  “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20) He is never caught off guard or by surprise.  When we worry about the future, we are borrowing trouble from tomorrow and ruining today.  Instead, we need to stop focusing on our fears and remember that Jesus is Lord over all. He is always in control no matter what things look like.  Even when they come disguised as things of ‘beauty’ in the early morning fog!

Who do you want to be like? We all see people and images every day and our natural human idea is to compare ourselves with what we think we see. It could be a favorite celebrity or even someone you know in person. Some of the power of society is to help people’s emotional well-being by creating norms for everyone. Can you imagine what it would be like to drive with no established ‘norms’ of traffic rules? However, this helpful reality can turn to something that is destructive when we turn away from the uniqueness we’ve been given by our Creator. Some of the way that God’s people come alive is to embrace that God did not make a mistake in making you the way He did. There is a divine purpose in your life, and how you’re made is a part of that. Instead of wasting our lives and energy trying to be something we’re not, our faith asks us to trust the Lord for making us how He did.

FOOD PANTRY: Items Needed
Hope’s Food Pantry is in need of some staple grocery items so we can continue to serve those in need! We are currently looking for: cereal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, and laundry detergent. Donations can be placed in the basket at the front of the auditorium by the kitchen. Thank you!

CHRISTMAS CHOIR: Listening party tonight!
Join us Wednesday, October 20th for our listening party! It’s not too late to sign up! The choir is open to anyone in the 9th grade and up and no audition is required. The performance date will be 12/26 for the both the 8:30 and 10:00 services. Practices will run on Wednesday nights for about 8 weeks. HOPE FAMILY NIGHTS: Second Session starts tonight!
Dinner & fellowship from 6-6:45, classes from 6:45-8:00. 

  • “Crazy Love” Hope’s Singles; It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts—it’s falling in love with God.
  • “Intentional Parenting” led by Dave & Leah Hallahan; (all adults) Whether you have toddlers, tweens, or teens it’s never too late to change the trajectory your kids are on and to start giving your family what it needs. You, yes you, are the single most influential person in your child’s life. Let’s start parenting with a purpose.
  • “Patterns of Evidence” led by John Smythe & Pastor Mark; (all adults) What is the validity of history found in the Bible?  Is it fact or fiction?  What does the hard historical evidence really have to say about the foundational story of the Old Testament: the Exodus out of Egypt?  Join us on a four week investigation searching for answers to these questions amid startling new finds which may change the scholastic views of history and the Bible.

COOKIE COLLECTION: Due back this Sunday!
If you volunteered to bake some treats for the event, our collection bins will be out this Sunday in the kitchen for you to turn in your goodies! 

We have a few yard signs and plenty of flyers still available for you to take and help us get the word out. You can also use our Facebook event to invite friends and family! 
Join us on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 7:00pm for study & fellowship. Open to anyone graduated high school through their twenties. 

Join us on Sundays from 6-8:00 to hangout, have snacks, play games, and deepen our relationships with God! During the month of October we’ll be studying Jesus’ Parables. Join us Friday, 10/29 for Youth Group Fall Fest! We’ll be painting pumpkins, enjoying a bonfire, having snacks, and playing plenty of indoor and outdoor games (so dress appropriately!) WONDERZONE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Practices happening now!
Christmas is one of our favorite seasons in the WonderZone! This year we’ll celebrate and sing, “Hooray for Baby Jesus!” at our WonderZone Christmas program on December 12th at both services! Be sure to get your child’s practice CD and help your little one get ready for their big performance! GOZONE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Practices happening now!
It’s October, which means the holiday season is upon us and it is time to start looking forward to our children’s Christmas program! The GoZone Christmas program, “Secret of Snowflake County,” will be performed on Sunday, December 19th at both services. Make sure your child receives their listening CD if they haven’t already.
