Hope Notes 07/28/2021

July 28, 2021

Hello Hoper~
I’ve been privileged to experience what is surely one of the greatest joys bestowed upon grandparents.  When our 18 month old grandson sees me, he lets loose a squeal of pure joy and runs at full speed into my arms. There’s nothing like it.  Oh to be a toddler and live life with our truest emotions right up front.  To dance whenever we hear music.  To cry when we need to.  To allow unrestrained laughter to burst forth in glorious abandon. And to show our joy and excitement when greeting those we love.  No one else is ever that delighted with my presence.  Except One.
Did you know that God delights in us?  We bring out the twinkle in His eye, so to speak.  He rejoices in us! “The LORD your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)  I find it hard to imagine that I bring delight to our Lord. How can that be? “LORD, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?” (Psalm 144:3)  But His Word assures me that I do. And so do you. “He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.” (Psalm 18:19)  Building on that, He takes delight in every single detail of our lives! “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” (Psalm 37:23)
No matter what we have done, whether we feel we deserve the Lord’s love or not, we can take comfort in the fact that the Almighty God delights in us!  He loves us more than we could ever fathom.  He may not actually come running towards us shrieking with joy, but we can trust by our faith in His Word that He sits on His Throne filled with delight in His children.

SPIRITUAL CARE  SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE
VBS Closing – Treasured
(Matthew 13:44-46, Philippians 2:5-11, Hebrews 12:2)

This week at VBS our kids heard that they are God’s priceless treasure! This message is affirming and potentially life changing and it is one we happily tell our children. But at some point as adults we either stop telling each other this or at least we stop believing it is true about us. What we believe is that we have to prove our worth, justify our existence, and chart our own course. Our “treasured-ness” now comes with caveats and conditions. This isn’t the message of Jesus Christ. His life, death, and resurrection is a testament to your incomparable worth, value, and beauty.

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
Colossians 4:6

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

PRAYER PROMPT:
James says that though the tongue is a small part of the body, it controls so much. He likens it to the bit of a horse or the rudder of a boat. Both of these can be used for great good or misused to devastating ends. Ask the Spirit to guide your tongue this week, so that it may be used for the good of others.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER:
Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).
