Hope Notes 07/14/2021

July 14, 2021

Hello Hoper~
The other night I sat on our back porch listening to the rain storm.  It’s so nice to be able to be outside but still protected from the elements. The falling rain is such a soothing sound, don’t you think?  Anyway… one of the thoughts I had was, “Oh good now I won’t have to go out and fill the birdbath tomorrow!”  Those birds are a thirsty lot.  They drink and splash in the bath all day long. Sometimes I have to fill it twice a day, especially during the hotter summer months.  Sometimes they even splash in it DURING a rainstorm!  All the rumination about water made me think of what the Bible refers to as ‘living water’.  The source of this eternal water for our soul is Jesus. “On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said: Streams of living water will flow from within him.” (John 7:37-38)  I also like the promise He gives in John 4:14 – “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”  I love the image of the bubbling spring not only refreshing our spirits but granting us eternal life. And although Jesus said that we will never be thirsty again once we drink the water He as for us, in one way we do need to be ‘thirsty’.  Psalm 63:1 puts it this way, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you…”  We need to have that spiritual thirst for His Word, for His presence, and for His Kingdom, and for righteousness.  In Matthew 5:6 Jesus gives us this promise: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Its two sides of the same coin.  Being thirsty for the things of the Lord keeps us coming to Him, and coming to Him is what gives us living water, blessings, and eternal life.  My birdbath will run dry if I don’t physically go out there and fill it.  (And if I don’t, I swear the birds sit on the edge and give me dirty looks through my kitchen window!)  All WE need to do in order to be continually filled with refreshing, bubbling living water is stay firmly rooted in Jesus.  He will never let us run dry.

Eagerly Share Jesus (Acts 1:8)

Social media has given us a different spin on the idea of ‘sharing’. We can share posts that we like from others, and we can share our lives with others (or at least the parts we want them to see) on our own posts. With all the different platforms, it would seem we’ve become experts at sharing. Most of the time, we enjoy sharing the parts of our lives that bring us joy, excitement, and celebration. There are those who also share some of their deep struggles and questions about life. As believers, we have the amazing privilege of sharing the best Person and the best news with others. The truth is we should be more eager to do this than virtually anything else in our lives. But we often aren’t. And we don’t. So let’s remind ourselves that one of the basics of knowing Jesus and following Him is eagerly sharing Him with others!

Colossians 4:6

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

What difficult conversations have you been avoiding? Ask God to lay them out before you and fill you with his Spirit that you may enter them graciously.

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services. Contact Bob Baumiester for more information (rbaumiester@gmail.com).
Ezra | Nehemiah: Revival Gone Wrong
What happens when well intentioned, God fearing leaders pave the way for revival and renewal? Revival and renewal, right? No, in the case of Ezra & Nehemiah. Let’s dive in to see what Israel did right and what they did wrong and what we can learn from it all. Bible study meets every Wednesday night at 7:00 in the auditorium as well on Facebook & YouTube livestream.

Did you know that we have a prayer wall in our coffee room? Next time you grab a cup of joe on a Sunday morning, make sure to check it out! You can leave anonymous requests, and take one (or a few) requests to pray for! Its an easy way to support each other!
