Hope Notes 05/26/2021

May 26, 2021

Hello Hoper!
Perhaps you’ve seen those articles, “Things Kids Did in the 50’s & 60’s That Would Shock Today’s Parents”.  I always look at them because, yeah I did most of those things!  Well, they finally included the one activity that has horrified my daughter Emily ever since I told her about it.  Does anyone else remember racing outside when the mosquito truck came by in order to ride behind it on our bicycles?  Those glorious clouds of fog billowing out from the truck were impossible to resist. We had no idea it was spewing out poisonous chemicals!  We did so many things back then that I would never do now, simply because we’ve gained more information and insight.  To quote Maya Angelou, “When you know better, you do better”.
So it should be with our spiritual journey.  We ought to be evolving and growing in our faith, not like those church members in Corinth who Paul reprimanded – “I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.” (1 Corinthians 3:2) We should not find ourselves stuck in the same spiritual place we were years ago. “So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding.”  (Hebrews 6:1 NLT)  I know for myself there are areas of growth where it pains me to remember the way I used to think or feel about certain topics.  God is always at work; putting us through trials, showing us new thoughts in His Word, placing mature believers in our lives to guide us.  All these things can bring about the growth that is so important in believer’s lives.  I know I still have places where I need to grow; I’ll never reach the pinnacle of spiritual maturity on this side of eternity.  But I can certainly ask God to reveal these immature spots and help me overcome them.  “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)  Let’s not get stagnant in our faith.  Let’s continue to ‘know better and do better’ as we continue on our spiritual walk.
“…..grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!” (2 Peter 3:18)

Strive to Grow! – Lois

Worship Morning
We are so excited to have a worship morning again.  This special service will be filled with music and we’ll share communion together.  It has been too long since we’ve been able to enjoy an extended time of praising our Lord together, so we’ll eagerly step into this opportunity.  Our God is great and He is so very good.  Our time of worship together this day will help those truths to be refreshed in our souls.

Romans 6:21-22
What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

As a “slave to God,” ask your gentle master what he is asking of you. Then do what you can to offer yourself as a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1-2).

Join us in reading the book of 1 Samuel. For some background information, check out an overview of the book from the Bible Project here!

Join us Sunday mornings at 8:00 in Pastor Mark’s office to pray for that morning’s services.
BIBLE STUDY: Ephesians
Meets every Wednesday night in the auditorium at 7:00, as well as live on Facebook and YouTube. This is a great opportunity for a mid-week spiritual boost and a chance to spend time with church family. Don’t miss!    ANNOUNCEMENTS
Are you new to Hope since 2020? We would love to have you come out for lunch following the second service on Sunday, June 27th! You don’t have to bring anything but your family (kiddos included!) Our Staff & Elder Team are eager to get to know you more! Sign-up in the lobby or online here

With the state of NJ lifting the indoor mask mandate this Friday, we are also completely removing our mask wearing policy for Hope.  With the state returning the responsibility of mask wearing to individuals, we will be doing the same. Of course, anyone is still welcome to wear a mask for any service or activity.

BAPTISM SERVICE: Postponed for September
We are postponing our baptism service for fall in the hopes that more people will be ready to participate! If you have been on the fence about whether or not to get baptized, now would be a great time to pray over it and consider talking to Pastor Dave before committing in September! Contact Pastor Dave (dave@hopechristianfellowship.org) with any questions!

CHOICES OF THE HEART: Due back this Sunday!
There is still time to support Choices of the Heart for the month of May. You can also donate directly here or you can pick up a baby bottle located in the back of the church. All bottles can be returned to the back table by May 30th. For more information, or more ways to get involved with Choices of the Heart  please visit their website: www.choicesoftheheart.com. YOUTH GROUP: Sundays at 6:00pm
Students from 6th to 12th grade are invited to join us for games, snacks, and the Word of God as we engage in fellowship and seek to grow in our relationship with our savior. If you have any questions, please contact our Youth Pastor, Daniel Lein, at danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

Our Sunday morning program for K-5th graders meets in-person at the 8:30 & 10:00 services.
