Hope Notes 02/24/2021

February 24, 2021

Hello Hoper!
I’m always so blessed by our time of worship on Sundays.  It’s the perfect segue needed to bring us into the frame of mind and condition of the heart to hear what God has to say.  I’ve been thinking about the difference between singing worship songs about God verses singing worship songs to God.  Try thinking about that when you’re looking at the words of the songs.  When you sing those words to Him, it suddenly becomes more personal, more like a prayer of praise or thanksgiving.  Praise and worship go hand in hand, don’t you think?  Psalm 98:4 (NLT) says, “Shout to the LORD, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!”  We can’t help but sing for joy when we’re reflecting on all that God has done for us.  I don’t know about you, but worship helps me to shake off whatever burdens or distracting thoughts I’ve carried with me into church.  It clears my mind of all things finite and allows the Spirit to breathe Life and Truth into my heart. Did you know that God desires our worship?  When we worship Him with our songs of praise, we honor Him as the One who is Sovereign.  Worship keeps our hearts oriented with His.  I know this is true because sometimes my heart is heavy and I don’t really feel like I believe what I’m singing.  Then somewhere into the song, God swoops in and changes my heart and I am living what the words are saying.  Does that make sense? So even if you’re not ‘feeling it’, go ahead and give the words time to permeate your heart.  Before you know it, you will be able to “Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.” (Psalm 100:2 NLT)  Back to singing to God rather than about God.  Sometimes I actually change the words as I’m singing so that I’m addressing Him directly.  Now before you start muttering about how I’m some sort of crazy word changer, give it a try yourself. I am confident that you will have a more personal worship experience as you sing praises directly to our God.

With a Song of Worship in my Heart  – Lois

Youth Sunday

Have you ever wondered what our teens do every Sunday night at youth group? Well wonder no longer because this Sunday, Hope Youth is taking over and you’ll get to experience it firsthand! We’ll have game time, little bit of worship, and a chance to hear from our students on how God has been working in their lives.

As the “body of Christ,” we also have the opportunity to be good and perfect gifts to those who are in need (physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, etc). Take time this week and ask God to show you who you can be a gift to.

James 1:16-17
“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Never Gonna Give You Up (3/2)
You’ve been Rick Rolled. In the coming weeks, many in the Christian tradition will be observing lent. It is customary for people to give something up for those 40 days with the intention of drawing closer to God. Have there been times in your life where you’ve felt God calling you to give something (or someone) up? What are things or habits in your life now that God may be asking you to set aside?

YOUTH GROUP: Sundays at 6:00pm
Our current series, Bible Basics, will help equip students to read God’s word. Right now we’re in Genesis! Students from 6th to 12th grade are invited to join us for games, snacks, and the Word of God as we engage in fellowship and seek to grow in our relationship with our savior. If you have any questions, please contact our Youth Pastor, Daniel Lein, at danlein@hopechristianfellowship.org

We know you’ll happily join us in welcoming Ryan & his wife, Becky, to the Hope family! To contact him, email: ryanmoreno@hopechristianfellowship.org
