Hope Notes 09/16/2020

September 16, 2020

Dear Friends of Hope ~
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)  His love for us doesn’t change.  His power doesn’t change. His promises are always kept.  What a comforting reassurance!  But the same can’t be said for us, can it?  Who we were, who we are, and who we will be are not the same;  we are made up of three different people, constantly evolving.  Let’s start with who we were before we knew Jesus as Savior.  We were ‘dead’ in our sin and lost.” In the past you were dead because you sinned and fought against God.”  (Ephesians 2:1 CEV)  Luke 15 tells the parable of the lost sheep.  We learn how the shepherd leaves the ninety nine to go and find the one lost sheep and rejoices when he finds it. “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.” (Luke 15:6)  From the moment we are ‘found’, we are new creations, no longer the person we once were.  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”  (2Corinthians 5:17)  That brings us to who we are in Christ.  We are His precious children. “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith…” (Galatians 3:26) And believe it or not, He sees us as holy in His sight. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.” (Ephesians 1:4)  The final phase is who we will be in the future.  There is no need to wonder about who I will be.  I know God isn’t finished with me yet, and I also know He won’t stop growing me until I stand before Him in eternity. “God is the one who began this good work in you, and I am certain that he won’t stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6 CEV)  Nor is there any cause to worry about the future God has in store for me.  In Jeremiah 29:11, He says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I think that about covers it, don’t you? We are the sum total of three different personas, yet we are one child of God, loved and cherished by Him.
A Child of the King….
September 20 – Better Way (John 14:5-6; Matthew 7:13-14; Galatians 5:19-23)
When we’re lost, we look for direction.  Or at least some of us do. Without knowing the way, it is much more challenging to ever get to the place we want to go. You can choose to just give up and decide that you’ll never find the way.  You can wander and hope that you find the way.  Or you can keep listening to others who try to tell you they know the way.  But Jesus says He IS the Way. The startling difference should wake us up to the idea that the way for our lives is probably not where most people look for it.  As people who have been rescued by Jesus, we have the invitation to know Him as The Way.  And this way is infinitely better than everything and anything else that pretends to offer a direction of hope.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
