Hope Notes 03/25/2020

March 25, 2020

DEAR FRIENDS OF HOPE ~Dear Friends of Hope ~
I came across the prayer shown below; when I saw the title of it, I just knew it would be appropriate for the situation we find ourselves in right now.  We have so much information being thrown at us (much of it incorrect) that the sheer volume becomes a weight too heavy to bear.  We need the wisdom and discernment that can only come from our heavenly Father.  We need to keep our eyes firmly fixed on Him, the source of all our hope, the giver of all our peace, and the source of all our strength.  I hope this prayer brings peace to your soul!
“We have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)

From Every Moment Holy by Douglas Kaine McKelvey
In a world so wired and interconnected, our anxious hearts are pummeled by an endless barrage of troubling news. We are daily aware of more grief, O Lord, than we can rightly consider, of more suffering and scandal than we can respond to, of more hostility, hatred, horror, and injustice than we can engage with compassion.
But you, O Jesus, are not disquieted by such news of cruelty and terror and war. You are neither anxious nor overwhelmed. You carried the full weight of the suffering of a broken world when you hung upon the cross, and you carry it still.
When the cacophony of universal distress unsettles us, remind us that we are but small and finite creatures, never designed to carry the vast abstractions of great burdens, for our arms are too short and our strength is too small. Justice and mercy, healing and redemption, are your great labors; you have never asked any one of us to undertake more than your grace will enable us to fulfill.
Give us discernment in the face of troubling news reports. Give us discernment to know when to pray, when to speak out, when to act, and when to simply shut off our screens and our devices, and to sit quietly in your presence, casting the burdens of this world upon the strong shoulders of the one who alone is able to bear them up

Hopefully, none of you have missed the special “Urgent Prayer Request” Hope Notes I sent out yesterday.
Our dear Connie Matthews passed away yesterday morning, leaving Rahyell mourning the loss of her Gran. I’ll say it again, when a believer is transported to heaven there are tears here on earth for we will miss their presence.  But there is much rejoicing in heaven as our heavenly Father and all the angels welcome one of their own.  I know that Connie is breathing the sweet aroma of heaven now… no more oxygen machine to weigh her down!
For those of you asking about an address to send Rahyell a card, you can use Connie’s address in our online directory.  If you aren’t already using it, take the time now to sign up.  We can have access to the entire church directory on our laptops or on our phones through the app.  We’re all better able to connect if we are all participating in the directory.  To sign up, simply contact Emily at emilydilorenzo@hopechristianfellowship.org and she will get you set up!

Message – Living Like God is in Control (John 11, 12:1-9)
These days anxiety and unrest are at an all time high, with fear and uncertainty running rampant. Some have come to question “Where is God in all of this?” I believe we are at a special time and place that we can live like we know the answer to that question. This week, we will study John 11 to see how Jesus handles the news of Lazarus being sick and the beginning of John 12 to see Mary’s corresponding response to Jesus. As we virtually gather together, let us look to Scripture so that we can show the world that God is right where He has always been, in total control.

Just because we can’t meet together in person, we can still ‘be together’ in our own homes as we tune in and listen to Pastor Mark!  We’ll be continuing on in our study of Ephesians.  Don’t miss this opportunity to stay connected and hear God’s Word.

ONLINE PRAYER MEETING – Thursday, March 27th @ 8:30 pm
ll throughout Scripture we are encourage to call out to God and he will hear our prayers. We believe this to be true and we believe that prayer changes things. So as we find ourselves in the midst of a global health pandemic and many already facing economic fallout, we will seek the face of the Lord together. This Thursday we are going to have an online prayer meeting to lift up our current moment to the Lord. If you are able and willing to participate please submit your email address at this link: https://forms.gle/6W4X2ZVtGQAHLVzu5. If your small group is still hoping to meet, we have some resources that may be of use to you!
Zoom – This is a great video conferencing app that you can use on your phone or computer. The free version does limit to 40 minute calls.
Google Hangouts – Another great video conferencing app. This limits to 10 users at a time.
In addition to these apps that allow you to see each other, Mark has continued to post our Small Group Study Sheets. If you are looking for something else you could check out one of the following free video based small group studies. Everyone in your small group could watch separately and then you join a video call to discuss.
Anthology – This is free year round, so check it out and bookmark it.
RightNow Media – This is normally subscription base, but they have made several of their studies available during this time.
If you have any questions, need help, or are looking for ideas other than what is listed here please contact  Dave at dave@hopechristianfellowship.org
