Hope Notes 11/27/2019

November 27, 2019

Thanksgiving week our thoughts naturally turn toward thankfulness.  Social media is filled with people listing things they are grateful for.  This is all well and good.  I’m all in favor.  I wish this attitude would continue year round, but I’ll take what I can get!  The one thing I want us to be careful of is this:  Making sure that we do not put so much focus on our blessings that we lose sight of the One who blesses.  If we intentionally recognize every good thing we see, hear, and hope for as coming from our generous heavenly Father, we can’t help but stay focused on Him.  “Every good present and every perfect gift comes from above, from the Father who made the sun, moon, and stars.” (James 1:17)
When asked about our blessings, our thoughts often go to the material and physical benefits like houses, jobs, family, and health.  I know it’s easier for me to list those things out (I always include my church and church family!) than it is for me to chronicle all the spiritual gifts I have received.  Because they are mostly intangible or occurred long ago, I don’t always think to include them.  But there are even greater spiritual blessings we may not have considered.  Every single good thing from God that comes to us in salvation should fill our hearts and minds with gratitude and praise.  How about this one?  He loves us! Unconditionally.  Eternally.  “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (1Chronicles 16:34)  He gives us His perfect peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)  We are sealed by the Holy Spirit.  Forever secure. “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit…”(Ephesians 1:13) He gave us eternal life through the death of His Son. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
This Thanksgiving season, let us remember ALL our blessings, but most importantly, let us remember the One who blesses. “Let them praise the LORD for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them.”  (Psalm 107:8)

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE – Stretching Your Faith (Exodus 4:18-31)
Hero stories are some of the most compelling that we ever take in.  In today’s storytelling, the soon-to-be-hero is often unaware that they will become the one to save the day.  Or they are full of doubt and personal weakness, making their heroics all the more miraculous.  One of the great hero stories of the Bible is about a man whose faith was not very strong when God calls him to save his people.  While we all know Moses’ story winds up in powerful wonders and God-sent deliverance, we’re in the part of the story that most of us know well.  We’re not quite sure that this is going to work out, and we’re doubting that God is going to show up and do what He’s promised. But we do see places in this story where a little faith is enough, and where the Lord uses gentleness to help build Moses’ faith!

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Join us for our study in the book of Ephesians.  This book is a beautiful revelation of the Church and the spiritual blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Paul explains the mystery of the church and gives practical insight into living as believers.
Please Note:  Bible Study will be on hiatus through December.  We will resume on January 8th.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it!   Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
