Hope Notes 11/13/2019

November 13, 2019
Have you noticed the lack of silence in this world?  We went out to eat and wound up barely talking because we couldn’t hear ourselves over the ‘atmospheric music’ playing.  We were strolling through a cute little outside shopping area and there was music playing.  I understand that indoor malls play music constantly, but this was outside! In nature!  We went into one of the stores and the music was so loud and jittery we actually left.  Who could enjoy browsing while listening to that racket?! (I know……I sound like an old person now.)  It’s no wonder our favorite places to go are found in God’s creation.  Quiet walks deep in the woods or along a body of water.  We like peaceful, secluded places.  Sometimes we feel like oddballs because lots of folks prefer some hustle bustle and the excitement of crowds, along with the energy and noise that goes along with it. That’s just not for us!  (I’m really sounding old now!)  It’s really hard in today’s world to “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)  Jesus knew the value of silence.  He often retreated to a place of solitude and silence to pray.  He called His disciples to do the same. “ [Jesus] said to [his disciples], ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” (Mark 6:31-32)  Since the world we venture into every day is so loud, it’s more important than ever to find a way or a place to listen to God’s voice in silence.  If we remember Elijah in 1 Kings 19, he did not hear God in the wind, or the earthquake, or the fire.  But as a ‘still small voice’ (vs 12).  We can’t expect to hear God when we are constantly surround by noise.  I love what Scripture says in Habakkuk 2:20 – “But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.” Could you imagine that??  I know the entire earth will never fall silent, but I sure would love it if just a few restaurants or stores would!  We recently walked into a store just after they opened.  No one had turned on the music yet.  Oh it was heavenly!  Then suddenly the sound of some jazzy, upbeat tune filled the air.  And….you guessed it……….we turned and ran!

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE –  God’s Help (Exodus 4:1-17)
Have you ever asked for God’s help?  At a moment like that, you knew that only divine power could address your need. And yet many times, we think God did not answer our cry.  What if we are thinking about God’s help all wrong? As Moses begins the work that will eventually result in the freedom of all Israel from slavery, God begins to show Moses how He will help. God takes normal, seemingly powerless things and turns them into examples of His power and help. We need to hear the same lesson God was teaching Moses in this interaction.  We need God’s power, and He will help us see that His power is not limited by what we think we can do, or by what we think is possible!

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Join us for our study in the book of Ephesians.  This book is a beautiful revelation of the Church and the spiritual blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Paul explains the mystery of the church and gives practical insight into living as believers.NOVEMBER CHALLENGE VERSE –  Psalm 89:1-2
“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.  I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it!   Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Pray for the Lord to help us find ways to show people how they can deeply ‘belong’ at Hope.

For the month of October, we averaged $7669 per week, bringing our annual weekly average down to $8996.  This is the first time our annual average has been under $9000 per week since February.  We’re praying to regain our stride in giving over the last two months of 2019.
For our HVAC projects giving, we have received a total of $56,620 towards our ultimate goal of $65,000.  The Lord has been faithful to provide for these projects over the past two years, and we’re confident He will provide through the generosity and sacrifice of Hopers!

Thanks to all who took home our 200 shoe boxes!  (If you did not receive one of the free shoe boxes, you can use your own or pick one up at a Dollar Store.)  Extra labels are on the OCC table at Hope. Here’s how to make this easy & fun:  CHOOSE a boy or girl and the age category.  FILL WITH a quality ‘wow’ item, then add other fun toys, hygiene items, and school supplies. PRAY for the child who will receive your gifts; you can include a personal note & photo.  If you’d like, you can donate your $9 per box shipping online and receive a tracking label to discover the destination of your shoebox.  https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/
Please Note:  In order to make sure as many children as possible receive boxes, we are extending the final deadline to Sunday, November 24th.  If you haven’t gotten a box yet, you still have one last chance!  We will NOT be accepting any completed boxes any later than immediately after the end of the 11:00 service.ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING Sunday, December 1st (immediately following the 11:00 service)
All are welcome to attend, but partners are needed to vote! We have two important items on the docket: next year’s budget, and the decision to appoint Dave Hallahan as our assistant pastor. The budget is posted on the bulletin board at the back of the church for review, and copies are available on the sign-up table.   In order to expedite our meeting, we ask that you present any questions you may have regarding the budget to one of our elders sometime before the meeting. We will have ballots available for voting if you are unable to stay for the actual meeting.CHRISTMAS CAFE Sunday, December 1st at 7:00 pm
