Hope Notes 10/30/2019

October 30, 2019

I’m going to tell you a slightly embarrassing story.  Long ago, my boyfriend and I received a formal invitation (in the MAIL) to a dinner party.  The instructions said to ‘dress up’.  He donned a suit and I put on a fancy party dress.  We took pictures to document how good we looked, haha!  We were so excited to be going to such a grown up, fancy dinner party.  However, when we arrived, the door opened and we were greeted by…………….ghosts and goblins and every sort of Halloween costume you could imagine!  Shock and confusion were quickly followed by laughter as we decided we were ‘dressed up’ as adults going to a fancy dinner party.  Total miscommunication.  Was the person who penned the invitation to blame with their choice of words? Did we misunderstand?  Whatever the source, there was definitely a breakdown in the ‘send and receive information’ process!
We can be assured that with our God there is never a breakdown of communication; at least not on His part.  He is always there.  Always listening.  Waiting for us to talk to Him.  Prayer.  It’s that simple.  We open our hearts and He turns His ear to us. “Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.”  (Psalm 116:2)  Neither is there any fear that our prayers won’t be clearly communicated to Him.  We have our very own interpreter, the Holy Spirit, to help us when we don’t know what to say. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”  (Romans 8:26) There should be no confusion with God, either.  If we find ourselves wondering if something is the right thing to do, or we just can’t seem to make a decision, or come to grips with certain choices, we can be assured that God is not in it.  He does not cause confusion or chaos, nor does He put us in pressurized, deadline induced situations that demand an answer ‘NOW”.  Those kinds of things usually mean the enemy is in there, stirring up emotions and trying to derail us from patiently following God’s lead. “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”  (1Corinthains 14:33)  Be encouraged knowing that our God is a clear communicator, understands us perfectly

SUNDAY MORNING MESSAGE –  Scary Calling (Exodus 3:1-11) COMMUNION
At the theme park, there are two types of people.  The ones who run to the roller coasters and the ones who wish they didn’t exist. We don’t often find people who are indifferent to the thrill rides. Those who love them are ready for the rush of energy and are very able to put aside any thoughts of danger or fear.  But in life, the thrills can often come with very real risk.  And those who live through some of those fallouts can shift from thrill seekers to fear-filled worriers. Moses is a pretty famous person in the Old Testament, but when we find him being called by God to lead Israel, he is certainly overwhelmed with fear. We won’t finish the story today, but we will find the surprising beginning for someone who becomes a famous deliverer and hero.  And perhaps we’ll find that our own story doesn’t need to be derailed by fear!

Sunday’s worship service is available on CD immediately following the service for FREE. Pick up a copy for yourself or for anyone you would like to share Hope with.  Pastor Mark’s messages are also available on our website: www.hopechristianfellowship.org and on YouTube “Hope Christian Fellowship”.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER TIME – 8:30 Pastor Mark’s Office
Do you have a heart for prayer? Our Sunday morning prayer time is open to everyone. We pray for the services that morning and for the needs in the church. If you would like to participate, just show up!  “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)  PRAYER HUDDLE – 8:40 to 8:45 for Both Services
The prayer huddle is open to anyone who would like to come pray – but it is specifically intended for those who are serving on that Sunday.  So if you’re scheduled to be in kids’ ministry, greeting, in the tech booth, on worship team, or any other ministry role for a given Sunday, join us at 8:40 sharp in the 1st & 2nd Grade classroom to pray together for God’s power in each of us.  We can do all things through Christ, and nothing of worth without Him, so let’s come together each Sunday to ask for God’s Spirit to fill us and use us!

Join us for our study in the book of Ephesians.  This book is a beautiful revelation of the Church and the spiritual blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Paul explains the mystery of the church and gives practical insight into living as believers.

“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.  I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”

Each month we’ll focus on one of our church goals for 2019 and have a weekly challenge to help us achieve it!   Let’s ask the Lord to work through us this year!
Find someone at Hope today that you don’t know and go talk to them; ask their name and find a way to remember it.
